My memory of attending GAA games goes back to about 2000, but I can never remember unofficial programmes being sold at matches. I've only heard of them in stories. Plus the fact the programme says "Official Programme" means unofficial ones must have existed at some point.... I have to laugh at lads giving out about dummy teams being a modern thing when in the past you could literally name "A.N. Other" as a player.... Yeah, my only memory of unofficial programmes dates from around the same era, outside venues like Croke Park and Thurles around the early to mid-80s. It was commonplace for the unofficial programme for a Leinster Final (for example) to just have the team listed as it started the semi-final, with no effort made to get anything more accurate. And in some cases, like yours, what you got bore absolutely no resemblance to the truth whatsoever. Anybody claiming that unofficial programmes gave a truer picture of the actual line-out must not remember what they were really like! Apart from the bizarre exception noted with 15 A/N.Others it was genuine. So often times a team might be waiting on a players fitness and name one placeholder. But in general the other 14 would start as named and there was nothing sneaky or cynical about leaving the blank. When you dig out an old programme and see a team you can be fairly sure that it was the team that started. Clare's 4 All-Ireland wins were omitted from last Sunday's match programme" You are correct, however Croke Park officials came out shortly afterwards when they became aware of the blunder and said, The GAA have apologised to Clare GAA after the county's four All-Ireland senior hurling championship victories weren't included in the match programme for Sunday's 2022 decider at Croke Park.
