Armagh Vs Galway

Replying To galwayfball:  "So off I went to listen to this podcast . Shocked that KW would come off as having a dislike for Conroy. A man he almost always started when fit

KW when asked about walsh , conroy and Comer says that ultan harney kicked 3 points off of conroy and that needs to be looked at . That was it . That was the comment. Then later the hosts circle back and ask him specifically about conroy and his defensive play and he says Conroy was one of the lads at fault for the Roscommon goal and said again it needs to be looked at.

So that's all that was said about Conroy in a 20 plus minute chat. Absolutely pathetic to make something of it.

Thankfully the players stay off social media during the lead up to games because I'm sure there's some fool on twitter who has said kw was attacking Conroy. It wouldn't be great for Conroy to hear that a man he played under for years and was selected to be captain for was having a go at him"
100% I was thinking the same. How people can read that into those comments is beyond me.

Galway's biggest downfall is their short kick out. Armagh will press high. It's a McGeeney trait.
Go long especially when you have fielders like Conroy.

Gleeson can't pick out a man in tight spaces so he'll be forced to go long if there's any sort of a press on.
He's better off if he does anyway because if he tries to go short under pressure he'll make mistakes.
At the end of the Mayo game - when they were coming back at us and doing a big press on our kick out - he gave a short kick out to a defender who had no support and was gobbled up by Mayo attackers the second he got the ball.
Resulted in a point for Mayo and could have been a goal chance.

Like most games this will go down to how one side or the other handle their own and opposition kick outs, Galway haven't been convincing in this department and will probably be forced to go long for a majority of their restarts, in both the Mayo and Roscommon games we seemed to fade out at midfield which is a cause for concern.
If we shade or at least get parity in the area we should be in a position to win this one

Replying To smallfrank:  "On that Connacht final incident, I once saw Noel Connelly try something similar with Ja Fallon back in the mid 90s, I was a teenager at the wire in Tuam. Ja picked him up like a rag doll and threw him into the ground. Ja was another man who got better as the year went on and always and i mean alway delivered in the biggest days. Shane Walsh needs to do the same."
Ja was as strong as an ox, but I'd also doubt that Noel Connelly had an MMA background. :)
Shane's biggest days at senior level for Galway to-date were the All-Ireland semi-final against Dublin in 2018, a batch of Connacht finals, a Division 2 league final against Kildare in 2017 and a Division 1 final against the Dubs in 2018.
I can't think of many he didn't perform in, and he certainly didn't go hiding in any of them.
Ja is a legend of Galway football, but he wasn't the only one carrying the can for the forward line. He had some serious operators around him.

Thought Kevin Walsh came across well in the interview, made fair and balanced points on both teams.

People making something out of nothing.

Replying To yew_tree:  "Shane Walsh is a class footballer. He may win the game for Galway but if Galway lose it won't be because of Shane Walsh if that makes sense. Others need to step up. My concern if I was Galway fan would be their defence is still conceding too much. If Galway can match the Armagh intensity and not let Rian run riot I see them winning by 2-4 points."
Agree, the supporting cast must share the work/scoring load. Galway are now a very dangerous team that no one will like playing. IMO they now have the raw material and scoring forwards to challenge for AI success..

Replying To Tirchonaill1:  "Gallway have been talked about a long time seems to me, I wouldn't be too excited about Armagh they didn't look much of a team when we beat them in Ballybofey,
Tyrone were half asleep and the mismanaged Donegal team they beat in the qualifier game were not recovered from the shambolic performance in the Ulster final,
I nearly spilt my coffee listening to Marty 'where's the party' on with Claire Byrne on RTE radio there and hour ago,
he said 'Kieran McGeeney is proving to a good manager' lol, well he's long enough trying anyway he had to get a bit of luck eventually I suppose.
Hard game to call, draw maybe?"
Still sore I see. Whatever happens on Sunday, the delight of the year was putting Donegal in their box and showing them up as what they are - average Joe's like ourselves. Plenty of great gaels on here from Donegal but too many like yourself spewing serious drivel over the last few months.

I don't know what you're talking about tbh, I've said nothing like that about Armagh,
anyway I see Mc Conville is spouting now that Armagh are going to win the All Ireland!! they can't even win Ulster for God's sake lol. talk about getting carried away with yourself.

It's a good point Walsh makes there anyway. Conroy has had a fantastic run in Connacht championship over Ros & Mayo in recent years, delivering numerous motm displays at midfield or no11 or wherever. He has been markedly less effective in Croke Park championship outings though, games v Tipp & Kerry would spring to mind. The weather might suit him tomorrow, windy & won't be too summery, might help the stamina.

It should be a good game, I would expect Galway to deliver and beat Armagh but its hard to judge the form lines. Roscommon are a poor team and were beaten by Clare who were hammered by Derry who Galway hammered in the league. Armagh beat a Tyrone who got a "thank god for Mayo" All-Ireland and badly faded this year and a Donegal that collapsed much like when we beat them by 16 points a few years ago. It would appear that Galway have the offensive side as good as its been in recent years but there are still problems in defence and our goalkeeper needs to put in a good day at the office. It may be won on the line with both managers having a bit to prove, I will travel in hope but I am confident that we will produce and the experience last year even though it was a losing one will stand to the team whereas Armagh come into this unexperienced yet massively talked up by the likes of Pat Spillane who has them as 3 best team in Ireland. Its all there for Armagh to fall flat on their faces and lets hope that is what occurs I would be worried if its in the melting pot with a few minutes left due to our failures to close out Mayo and Roscommon but maybe we have learned. Its hard to know i have a feeling we won a poor Connacht Championship
Roscommon and Mayo long way below their best
The Leauge form cant be trusted teams at different stages of fitness and preparation
My hope is that Galway can go to another level otherwise we will be beat
We need Shane Walsh and Paul Conroy to lead in Croke Park its about time too

Quite a few posters, mainly Galway, expecting their side to just turn up and win. There's a whiff of arrogance, disrespect and dismissiveness about a lot of this. Armagh are a very decent side. They are physically strong with the ability to mix their game up. They can score and won't be easily intimidated. This will be a close game.

Armagh @ evens during the week - 5/6 now - is safer than Honeysuckle.

The Ulster form line is being seriously underrated.

Decent game than God after that rubbish yesterday, hard to call I think if Galway stick with Armagh when the pressure comes on Armagh will crack, discipline could go out the window late on if Galway get ahead and Armagh revert to type.
