Minor point, but Spillane said on the last Sunday game "Mayo will never win an Ireland" he didn't specify a year. He made the same statement after the Galway match.

I get your point nd yes Spillane makes ridiculous statements at times. However he Did Not say Kerry will beat Mayo by 20 plus points as an earlier poster stated.

I haven't heard anything from him since the draw was made, but given his assessment of Mayo over the last few years surely anything less than a comprehensive victory would be humiliation for Kerry.

Kerry are hot favourites with a fairly settled team. We haven't played well in 2022, bar the Dublin game, a lot of chopping and changing between giving players a runout and injuries. I think Kerry will win but our pride/stubbornness will keep the winning margin to 5 or less points. But I'm hoping for an upset.

Replying To hopballref:  "Mayo have nothing to lose and will relish having crack at Kerry. No one gives them a chance really particularly after league final. I think Kerry will win but will be exiting match and if Clifford was to go off injured early (which would easily happen) it would seriously upset Kerry.
The main question for Mayo is how to limit Clifford - I think they have to sacrifice a forward (James Carr) and start O' Hora corner back but not on Clifford. I would double up on Clifford with Mullen and Keegan in 1st half anyway and see how things go."
Mayo won't have to limit David Clifford…. He is out for the rest of the season with injury

Oh OK. You think it would be a humiliation if Kerry lost. I don't. It would be a disappointment. Obviously you don't think much of your Mayo team.

The more I look at this game, the more I think Kerry could be beaten. . .

One the one hand, this is the game Kerry need. If, as expected, they are to meet Dublin in the semi final, then their defence needs to have it put up to them by Mayo and they need to come through all the stronger for it.

And normally, that's what you'd expect to happen. But they tailored their approach to a game v Cork 2 years ago with one eye very firmly focused on Dublin, and they got caught out.

There's so much talent in this Kerry side that when they eventually win 1 all ireland, I think many of their players will go on to win 4 or 5 medals. But the longer they are made to wait for that breakthrough win, the more difficult they will find it to come through the tight games at the latter end of the championship.
And this could just be one such game.

Haha, you took a few extra steps without a hop or solo on that one. Will need keep an eye for that over the next week. It will be a hulimation for Spillane if Kerry don't beat Mayo convincingly. I'd say a defeat would destroy the man.

Mayo always seem to up their game in Quarters or Semifinals but tip the load when they get to the final which is always heartbreaking for them and the neutrals …. If Mayo line out O Shea they will be taken apart…. only they took him off in the last round Kerry would be facing Kildare instead… Kerry to win by 6/7

Oh I did nt know you knew Spillane? You know exactly how he will feel if Kerry lose. He will be destroyed? I would imagine he will be the same as always when Kerry lose. He will be disappointed and then critical of the team and then move on and start saying Mayo are brilliant but it comes with a health warning. We'll that's the norm for him anyway but I don't know him personally. You must as you will know exactly how he will feel or maybe you re psychic.
