Clare Vs Derry

(Oldest Posts First)

As a Clare man am really excited about this game, both teams will see this as a massive opportunity. If you had said to a Clare person at the start of the year that they would play Derry for a chance to get to an All Ireland Semi Final, we would have bitten your hand off for it. Both teams have a similar enough style in terms of getting men back behind the ball, with Derry slightly getting more men behind the ball. One of Clare's biggest issued over the last number of years has been with kickouts and goalkeepers, so this will be a huge facet, if Clare can get a foothold from the kickouts we might have a chance. Both teams as well have some whole hearted and tough defenders the likes of Brendan Rodgers and Chrissy McKaigue for Derry, Cian O'Dea, Manus Doherty and Ciaran Russell for Clare, so it definitely probably won't be a shoot out or a high scoring classic, a lot of it could come down to who is the fittest or most well conditioned teams coming down the stretch. Derry won by nine or something like that in the league, but as we seen with Donegal and Armagh that every game is different and takes on a life of its own. One more thing Up the Banner.

I somehow doubt it to be honest. Derry are not necessarily easy on the eye, but are effective. We do at times put a lot of men behind the ball, and playing against a defensive team like Derry if you go all out in attack they will punish you on the counter like they did against Tyrone and Monaghan.

I could be wrong but can't see it being a classic like the Clare Roscommon game, but if Clare can put off a victory I don't think me or you or any Clare person will care how we win as long as we win.

If memory serves me right that league encounter was in the balance until a poor kick out gifted a goal to Derry and they kicked on to win by 9.

Derry defence isn't going to be as wide open as Roscommon so best hope for Clare here is making it a dogfight and as low scoring match as possible. A wet and windy day should help.

Jeez I'm surprised with the attitude towards Clare for this match..wet and windy day needed, was it like that last Saturday?id give Clare a great chance of making semi final..do Clare people care if they win 2 points to 1 in one of worst games ever seen,I don't think so..

I'd give Clare a great shout if they play with the belief they had in the last 5 minutes against Roscommon. Two things that I would be worried about for Clare is, only scoring once from play in the second half against Roscommon and how much joy Roscommon got from pressing the kick outs. Will Derry do the same? Clare now have a succesful game in Croker under their belts. Huge pressure on Derry who haven't had to play at HQ yet and all the talk has been about them since they won Ulster.

i dont really get the opinion that derry cant score big margins ..they are well capable of that and i expect them to beat clare by 4 or 5 points at least the intensity they are gonna bring for 70 mins will be very hard to beat

It looks like Derry will be hot favourites in the semifinal now.
