2022 All-Ireland SFC Quarter-Finals

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Galway v Armagh
Kerry v Mayo
Dublin v Cork
Derry v Clare

Kerry v Mayo is the only all Division 1 quarter-final. Kerry or Mayo v Dublin will be the only all Division 1 semi-final. Derry v Clare guarantees that a Division 2 team will make the semi-final. Division 2 Connacht champions Galway are at risk of being eliminated by a Division 1 opponent.

Best of luck to Derry and Armagh, I think Armagh-Galway is a toss-up really but I expect Derry to be waiting for the winners.

We're in quarter finals, what has their League placings got to do with anything? If anything it shows that league isn't the best indicator of where all teams are...

Most would be happy to avoid Armagh at this stage. Pretty sure that Derry will not be under estimating Clare.

Great draw for the two Ulster teams, all Ulster semi final.

I expect the winners of Galway v Armagh to win the semi. It should be a cracker of a game and it will stand to the winners big time.

Other side of the draw is interesting. On all known form Kerry should hammer Mayo however Mayo are always good for one huge game and I also believe Kerry may not be quite the all singing all dancing side people are making them out to be.

Dublin have a handy one again and it makes them venerable in the Semi as they won't have been tested.

Galway v Mayo final........... i think I banged my head off something!!

Anyone meeting Armagh would be at risk, including yer selves, Munster slayers.
I would give Galway a chance against Armagh though.

Cork have been very lucky in this year's qualifier draws. Very lucky again to draw another 2nd division team. The gods are with us!

Its crazy looking at todays draw and seeing Clare and Cork in the draw. Credit to them for getting there but come on Monaghan/Tyrone/Cavan/Donegal are all better teams than these two but none feature in the later stages because Ulster is to strong in comparison to the other three provinces.

Galway v Armagh is an all Div 1 clash also. Statuses changed at end of league as per the fact that Louth got to play in Qualifier and Down/ Offaly did not. But if you are to follow a definition that the only "pure " Div 1 teams are the teams that played last year then there was only 3 x div 1 teams in the draw so at most there was only going to be 1 x All Division 1 clash.
Yes Galway and Armagh will be a close call with the bookies calling it 50/50.

Clare beat the Division 2 champions and Connacht finalists. They fully deserve to be there. They are an established Division 2 county.
We've seen Tipperary make two All-Ireland semi-finals. There have been two all Munster All-Ireland finals. Munster and Leinster both have a difficult champion to try and dethrone. Unlike Leinster counties, Munster counties get on ok against national opponents.

Pat Spillane said yesterday that Munster is the strongest province. Hard to argue with him, as 3 of last 8 are from Munster.

That way it guarantees we won't have an all ulster final. It's a fix.

What are you talking about? Didn't Ballingeary just beat Naomh Conaill in the Gaeltacht final?

Hard game to call as both teams are similar with very good forwards. If we can get enough primary ball we can overcome them but the middle is where we are weakest. Hope David Gough gets this game.

Do we believe that they have 3 of the best 8 in the country though. You've mentioned yourself that Cork have been very lucky with the draw. Getting Louth and Limerick to make this stage.
I do think that Donegal, Monaghan, Kildare and probably Roscommon are all better than Cork.
I don't mean that as a jibe at all. I'd love to see Cork develop into a proper force in football again.

Munster had 67% representation in the League Top 16 for guarantee of a qualifier spot. The highest of any province.
Munster has 50% representation in the All-Ireland quarter-finals. The highest of any province.
The 67% to 50% drop is because 2 Munster counties were drawn against each other! Some province for one province!!

Cork are on their way back, and whilst Dublin should win easily, we've had a good season.Meehan, Corbett and a few others to come back from injury next year. Powter continues to star… he is one of the best players in the country!

And how many Ulster teams drew each other? Quirk of the draw, nothing much else. You'll get it this year, not the next. Hardly saying the strength of the province overall
