Clare Vs Roscommon

Replying To Yondu:  "I think your ambitions are a bit too lofty. Since Armagh appointed McGeeney in 2015 Roscommon have gone through how many managers now? Off the top my head Evans, O'Donnell/McStay, McStay on his own and Cunningham and the same problem is there not good enough defensively to progress further and leaves yourself open to defeats like last Saturday. It's a coach that can improve you defensively is what is required, McGeeney, Gallagher and Joyce have good coaches in their management teams and 1 of them will now reach the AI final.

On annals as one of the worst defeats in the history of Roscommon gaa wouldn't Clare 2016 and Fermanagh 2015 exits would be worse as both was playing Div 3 football those years. Clare 2022 are established Div 2 who has played against Roscommon plenty including a draw in the league this year."
Fermanagh in 2015 was painful but to lose a 5 point lead from the 68th minute is hard to take. Roscommon are an experienced team and they should have seen out that lead and have won the match. The defensive problems have not been cured by successive Managers but Anthony Cunningham has had 4 seasons and it's time for change. We didn't even seem to learn anything from the Galway game. Made the same mistakes on Saturday. I don't understand why Donie Smith was dropped. After Salthill, the Defence needed changing. I wouldn't have started David Murray last Saturday. Think Richard Hughes should have started. No imagination at all in our team selection on Saturday and we're out of the championship. A huge opportunity to get to an All Ireland Final has been missed.

Beating Clare as Roscommon should have done on Saturday would only paper over the cracks and the opportunity would only be there if Roscommon was capable of shoring up the defence, two weeks wasn't enough to do that. Against Derry if that was the draw (could be totally different with no clare) would be one team poorly set up and the other well drilled. The only opportunity i see is to competitive but it would still likely end in a defeat.

Derry should go on to comfortably beat Clare now and do it by scoring less than the 1-17 Roscommon scored against them.

Replying To Oldtourman:  "Really. Apart from Galway, can any Connacht be classified a strong football county. Since 1966 all of two Sam McGuire Cup victories have been recorded by a Connacht team; no less than 23 All Ireland titles have come Munster way in that time. It is almost seventy years since any other county from the province won an All Ireland. As regards Meath, lowly Limerick have met them three times in the Championship, beaten them twice, putting five goals past them the last time and were very unlucky to lose to them by a point in Portlaoise about ten years ago. So I am not awful sure that either Meath or Ros, are 'well renowned football counties' at least for the last fifteen years or so.
I think it is also significant that every one of the four beaten finalists lost yesterday, but that both Limerick and Kildare performed much better that they did in their provincial finals. I was happy enough with LK performance, as Cork are always to beat on their own ground and the vast majority of neutral commentators were in one word, that Gordon Browne should not have black carded, although I do think Cork would have edged it anyway.
Having said all that, congrats to Clare on a fine victory on Saturday and best wishes against Galway. It would be great to see them in a semi final like '92. As Spillane said it was 'great to see three teams from the much maligned Munster Championship in the Quarter Finals'"
Roscommon was last a well-renowned footballing county in the late 70's and 1980; well over forty years ago now.

And Meath, not since Sean Boylan left; about 20 years ago now.

I predict a better future for Roscommon football than I do for Meath football, though.
