Won't it also depend on who gets there? I doubt provincial finalists can meet again

Leinster v Munster or whoever beats them in last 8

No.
Roscommon for example could lose to Galway in the Connacht Final, beat Mayo in Q2, beat the Ulster Champs in the ¼ Final and face Galway in the SF . And win that and go on to win the All Ireland.

Theoretically.

Or indeed the converse.
Galway could lose to Roscommon in the Connacht Final, beat Mayo in Q2, beat the Ulster Champs in the ¼ Final and face the Rossies again in the SF . And win that and go on to win the All Ireland.

But now we are getting into the realms of the absurd - to calculate the odds of that happening would in all likelihood require the use of Grahams number.

Munster winner vs Leinster winner and Connacht winner vs Ulster winner or whoever beats them in the quarter final

They'd probably have to beat Kerry or Dublin in the Final.

Yeah if it was the old-school knockout format you'd be looking at these semi finals:

Derry/Donegal vs Galway/Roscommon
Dublin/Kildare vs Cork/Limerick

But as we know there are qualifiers and quarter finals to take into account first. Doing a bit of predicting here and will likely be proven toatlly wrong but anyway...

Qualifiers Round 1 - June 4th/5th
Mayo v Monaghan - Mayo
Clare v Meath - Meath
Armagh v Tyrone - Tyrone
Cork v Louth - Louth

Qualifiers Round 2 - neutral venue
Then each of the 4 beaten provincial finalists will be drawn to play one of the winners from the Qualifier Round 1 above in a neutral venue on the weekend of the 11th/12th of June.

No way of knowing how the draw will pan out, but just as an example we could see:

Mayo v Derry - Mayo
Meath v Limerick - Meath
Tyrone v Kildare - Tyrone
Louth v Roscommon - Roscommon

Quarter Finals - June 25th/26th - neutral venue
Dublin v Mayo
Donegal v Meath
Galway v Tyrone
Kerry v Roscommon

All hypothetical of course.

Anyone could win the qualifier round 1 pairings. I wouldn't be looking beyond that.

One things for sure it will all be over way too early, the whole thing feels rushed. Going to be a long time till we have intercounty football again after July.

Yeah it's crazy. Darragh O'Sé had a right rant about it in his column in The Irish Times today and I think he's right.

Firstly, a Munster final at 3 o'clock on a Saturday afternoon is just daft.
Secondly, fixing the Leinster final at the same time as the European Rugby final is even dafter.

Now you're talking. I think we should play it in Galway. Make a good weekend of it.

Totally agree. And how about taking the other quarter-finals around the country too?

For example - Kerry v Galway/Roscommon in Limerick. A fantastic atmosphere guaranteed. And a chance to promote football outside the traditional strongholds.

I think we can take it the Quarters will be in 2 double headers Croke Pk.
No pesky ground rent to be paid and Dublin at home should ensure they make the Semis and an 82k sell out v Kerry.

Presumably - back to the backdoor Quarters setup in the pre Super 8's era. At the moment it just says CCCC to decide. They are certainly all on same weekend.

We might get a repeat of 2017 - Mayo v Roscommon.
Wouldn't that be grand!

As long as we don't get a repeat of the outcome!

If it means club players aren't playing county finals in November I'm all for it. Depends which side of the fence you fall on I suppose.
