Leinster Hurling: Laois V Westmeath

(Oldest Posts First)

Saturday 21 May
Leinster SHC round 5
Laois v Westmeath, MW Hire O'Moore Park, 6pm

5. Westmeath have 1 point and are on -49.
6. Laois have 0 points and are on -74.

In the league Laois had -63 and Antrim -39. Antrim were more competitive against the top teams. There was a suspension that Laois saved themselves for the Antrim tussle.

Allianz Hurling League Division 1 Group B round 4
At MW Hire O'Moore Park
Laois 1-20
Antrim 1-19
Antrim headed to the relegation final where they defeated Offaly.

So, the Leinster stats suggest advantage Westmeath. Congratulations to Westmeath on drawing with Wexford. For anyone outside of the Top 9 to get a positive result is massive! Laois however are crafty. They know what it takes to remain in Division 1 and the Leinster Championship.

While most eyes will be on the Top 4 in Leinster on Saturday evening, Laois v Westmeath will be an interesting match for those of us supporting our counties outside of the Top 9.

You know your hurling.Laois will have everyone back and we have a much better record over the years with Offaly rather than Laois. This Laois team though after all the hidings must be asking themselves questions.

Just wanted credit to Westmeath for an excellent performance, bodes well for the future and makes Leinster more competitive.

I expect Laois will win this which will be really tough on Westmeath if it happens because overall they have performed better than Laois in the games played so far.

The media have been more critical of Westmeath than Laois after any loss to a big team. I suppose Laois have credit in the bank after beating Dublin a few years ago. Westmeath should have a good media credit rating now for a while after drawing with Wexford!

Thanks appreciated. But we have to win next weekend to keep going in the right direction.Winning division 2 and staying in Mccarthy would be a very good year.

A relegation battle that will be very interesting as a sub plot in the Liam Mc Carthy this year.
On form, I would expect Westmeath to win it. Laois have the better forwards, but Westmeath are better defensively.
To echo an earlier poster, Laois have a habit of making the last game of the league or championship their best performance of the campaign and have done it several years running now.
They'll likely have a full strength panel but then so will Westmeath. I think it will be a great contest.
When was the last time Laois came to Mullingar anyway? I have no idea, it's been so long.

Why have westmeath to go to portlaoise again? It seems every time we play laois it has to be in portlaoise

Westmeath had three home games already, hardly deserve four.

Put on your finest Saturday evening attire, and make the short saunter over to O'Moore to support your county's fine hurlers. Otherwise, your comments don't contribute much.

Your hand, and your appalling attitude towards Westmeath's both skillful and spirited hurlers has already been shown up on a different thread here on HS, for what it is.

Wishing Westmeath hurlers all the luck in the world.
