Shocking that neither the Leinster or Connacht semi finals were not broadcast on tv. Really shows how much the provincial competitions have slipped down the pecking order. Dublin and Meath is still a big game and Kildare Westmeath will be a close encounter also. Tarismelting22 (Roscommon) - Posts: 781 - 10/05/2022 09:51:17 2416119 Link 0 |
Mayo v Galway was shown live. The expected crowds at a match is influencing the TV selection.

Have the Leinster semi-finals taken place yet? I thought that Kildare are still to play Westmeath and likewise the Dubs are due to take on Meath. Gleebo (Mayo) - Posts: 2208 - 10/05/2022 10:22:05 2416138 Link 0 |
I can remember when RTE TV would broadcast 3 live hurling and 3 live football games a year. Done! We've never had so many options to watch games and highlights be ut from TV stations, streaming servuces, YouTube etc. Arguably far too many live games, a few poor ones can blight our opinion. The rights are bought for the stations to make money. If they think showing Murder She Wrote over the Leinster semi makes more money for them that's what they'll do. We might prefer the football but Jessica Fletcher is a big draw for the blue rinse brigade.

The provincial competitions in football are dead, apart from Ulster. Everyone knows it, the players, the tv broadcasters, the rest of the media. Everyone else except the provincial councils and the congress delegates. Leitrim_12 (USA) - Posts: 207 - 10/05/2022 11:04:18 2416165 Link 0 |
The decision making on live games is bizarre. On one hand Dublin giving a 20 + point beating to Wexford is shown but Dublin v Meath isn't. GAA go was great during the covid days and for a small fee there should be an option to watch the game this Sunday. Instead unless you are interested In Hurling there are few games to watch over the course of a weekend. PK57 (Louth) - Posts: 1657 - 10/05/2022 11:05:52 2416168 Link 0 |
Enjoyed Cavan v Donegal last Sunday on BBC. Pointless for RTE to be showing a game already available to us on BBC. It would free them up to show other fixtures on busy Sundays (not necessary last Sunday) when resources are scarce. They are reluctant to let go of big competitive fixtures in Ulster despite how much their panels have moaned and criticised Ulster football. They gave the impression that they were showing Ulster matches under protest in the last decade especially pre Joanne Cantwell's arrival. Some of the RTE coverage bordered on being offensive but always expect to have first refusal on big matches . Terms like 'eat my hat if a named player wins AI' , 'bad smell' , 'Taliban' , ' puke football' , ' black death' , 'as ugly as ….' ' questioning someone's manhood' etc may be OK for bar stool punditry but not in the studio of a national broadcaster. Panelist's seemed to be in competition for the funniest put down of Ulster football for a decade, Joanne wouldn't allow it or at least hold them accountable. BBC are much more respectful towards amateur participants and should be left to cover Ulster on their own. Curlew66 (Roscommon) - Posts: 578 - 10/05/2022 12:26:07 2416208 Link 0 |
I wouldn't say the Connacht SFC is dead, there will be three teams from there in Division One next year, and the Galway v. Ros final could be very hard to call. The Munster football championship looks to be a bit of a dead duck unfortunately, due to Kerry's resurgence and Cork and Tipp falling away a bit. But it has historically been the most one-sided provincial football championship in any case, mostly down to Kerry's excellence. This also might be the first Leinster football championship in over a decade that someone other than the Dubs stands a decent chance of winning. There are only 5 football championship games on this weekend plus the u20 final. 2 of these are live on free TV. There are only 2 live hurling games on free TV plus 1 more on Sky. Agree about the GAAGO though. There will be cameras at all the games so why not have a livestream from them and make a few bob? The diehards will still go to the games.

What needs to happen is that the Sunday Game highlights programme should also air on Saturday nights to cover the Saturday games. All we are seeing for highlights at present are the key scores and little else. Or alternatively have less analysis and more footage. johnocarroll17 (Limerick) - Posts: 408 - 10/05/2022 13:44:03 2416244 Link 1 |
BBC only show whatever games RTE show. Its RTE cameras etc that are used.

Well, I'd be surprised if the likes of Meath and Kildare wouldn't be a lot more competitive against the Dubs than Wexford were in the Leinster quarter-final. Meath put it up to Dublin in the championship last year and Kildare actually beat them in the league. That said, maybe Con and James McCarthy coming back will blow a lot of teams open, who knows? I think BBC showing Derry/Monaghan on Sunday while RTE have Clare/ Limerick hurling at the same time. BBC were restricted to whatever RTE showed up to Covid pandemic. Surprised Ulster council still welcome RTE to their grounds.

The Leinster semi finals are at least covered on GAAGO (full live coverage) this Sunday. This option should have been available for every provincial championship game this year. The Connacht GAA are able to stream every minor championship group game but in Croke Park they are unable to do likewise with provincial championships semi finals? It's a pity that RTÉ,virgin media and the 4 don't come together and cover the Gaa..I've watched a couple of matches on sky, think some analysts definitely better than RTÉ..however some of the camera work I find dreadful..RTÉ and virgin came together for 6 nations, surely they could do it for Gaa..I'd like to say well done to tg4 for the coverage of the under 20 grade and also covering the minor grade.. Or no analysis at all, even better.

Certainly not in Connacht. As you say three in Div 1 and Sligo will improve in time with the work they are doing at underage. Lack of TV coverage for me is because HQ clearly want to get rid of two competitions the senior provincial championships and the U20 football championship that they just introduced in 2018. Brought in proposals at the Congress last year to make the provincial championships a pre season competition they haven't succeeded yet. U19 is their next step instead of going back to U21 level but that would admit they were wrong to get rid of it in the first place and they would never do that.
