Clare VS Wexford

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I'd start the same team as last week.
If any of the missing list are available, leave them on the bench to be introduced.

Playing Clare in Clare is always tough, despite them missing a few big name players.
I expect a tight game and more of the same attitude that Wexford showed last week.
A draw wouldn't surprise me.

You'd have to imagine Clare will be all guns blazing wanting to show a reaction from last weeks poor showing and in front of there home crowd this week too, a couple of experienced players Conlon and David Fitzgerald were on the bench last week, don't know if there fit enough to start.

It won't have the same bite as the recent Wex/Clare games, without the Davy factor. If it's a dry day with good underfoot conditions, then I'd expect Clare to have too much for Wex…pulling away by 6-7 points by the end. If it's heavy, wet, winter hurling like last weekend, I'd give Wex a good chance of a draw, or a win by a goal or a couple of points.

You keep coming out with that nonsense. We havent had players who suited heavy ground and a long game since Tony Doran retired. Since the 90s we have had predominantly smaller players, especially forwards, who suit the shorter running game and low ball played into them. We have really struggled at the very top since Fenlon retired. Our game suits hard dry pitches and has done since the 70s. We havent won a league title since 1973. Why do you persist with that nonsense?

Think there's a belief out there amongst some that wexford need heavy ground to win games. Nothing could be further from the truth and even more so with the newer and younger guys being introduced. Wexford actually needed hard ground to play the game Davy wanted them to play

II expect Wexford to win Clare very unsettled at moment missing a lot of players we simply don't have the replacements

We felt like that heading into the Limerick game and looked what happened, expecting a big performance from ye tomorrow after relativity poor showings against Limerick and Cork in the last 2 games, with Conlon and Fitzgerald named to start are ye missing any big names outside of Kelly, Duggan, O'Donnell and Aidan McCarthy?

Rory O Connor back which is great news for us. There shouldn't be too much between the teams and I'm hopeful of a win - we have a strong side on the pitch and good subs on the bench if needed

Has to be said they are 4 massive players to be missing. Kelly probably the best hurler in Ireland and SOD and Duggan are gamechangers.

Wouldn't be surprised if O'Hanlon and Reck swapped positions. Why change when they played exceptionally well against Limerick. I can see Rory ( if he plays ) going into the half forward or full forward line. Surely he's more of a threat further up. Dunbar is probably been rested a little bit as he has been busy playing college and county over the last few weeks. I can see him making an appearance at some stage. It certainly looks a strong team but Clare will be hard to beat in their own backyard. Would be great to beat two munster teams in successive weeks. Wexford to win by four points.

Absolutely just checking if there is anyone I'm missing outside of those 4.

They have a big hole to fill at 6 but that's not down to injuries. Tbh them missing TK, SOD and Duggan is as bad as us missing Chin, ROC and Kevin Foley last week. Probably even worse. I'd be surprised if Rory starts tbh. So we will be missing 3 of our best front 8 players too. Think like last week backs will be on top on Sunday for both sides. I'm expecting a low scoring game if we play at the same intensity as last week. If we dont it might just be us who dont score much!

Went just as expected. Wet, soft day, wet, soft ground, and Wexford won by a goal.

Good result for Wexford on the road.

Think we would have won by alot more if the weather and pitch had been better. Clare will be a different proposition with Tony Kelly back in the summer. SOD and Duggan if back in top form after their injuries will make a big difference to them too. McCarthy would likely start also.
Salthill will be another massive test for us next up in a fortnight. We will need the intensity we showed against Limerick back for that one.

Pitch was in great condition no excuses there,Wexford had another good outing, play the lines well Clare might have snuck it it they took goal chances.
Rory O Connnor is a brilliant forward

An entertaining enough game with plenty of improvement for both teams

For sure Clooney. You could see that both teams had more of their championship back 6s playing than front 6s. Who would you like to see filling your centre half position longterm? I think Foley or Damien Reck will be that man for us although like yourselves we dont have anyone nailed on for that very important position yet. Also think Crotty has to start for ye. The other young lads Rodgers, Meehan and Mouncie looked like good prospects but Crotty actually affected the game in a big way for you. Rory O Connor has been an automatic starter for us since he was that age. If you are good enough you are old enough.
