Was genuinely gutted for them. Could have had it wrapped up in normal time. Fought back heroically in extra time. I was willing that final point to come down below the bar but it just wasn't to be.

Hard luck to our Connacht representatives. They can be very proud of their efforts. Great talent on display.

What a brilliant game. Looked ominous after 25 minutes, but they were excellent from then on. I thought they deserved the win in normal time. The goals were obviously killers, a few of them avoidable, but then they got away with a few others as well.
Tooreen didn't really look for goals until they had to at the very end. The first two long ones they let in to the square and both resulted in goals. They were close to getting a clean strike away at the end to level it.
They're a mighty club and I hope they get their All-Ireland soon. Fergal Boland was outstanding and plenty other top hurlers on show.
It'll be tougher in Connacht from next year, with Senior B gone in Galway, but on that showing they'll be a match for whoever comes out of Galway either way.

Absolutely heartbroken for Tooreen. We all have the banter back & fourth on here. But in a football mad county Tooreen absolutelty did Mayo so proud. So so gutted for them . Fergal Bowland is some man. It's hard right now but they can certanily hold their heads up high and be proud cause they did us proud never die attitude .

I hope they have not missed their chance. It's a long way back and with Galway restructuring it will make winning a Connacht title extremely difficult.

How are they going to restructure?

Tooreen put a valiant show in the hurling club. A bit unlucky to lose to Upperchurch. They had a couple of players sent off. Good omen for the future of Mayo hurling, with Tooreen's spirited show ( they should have won).

Easkey had a few players sent off in the Junior final, not Tooreen. Did you watch the game at all?
Easkey were also very unlucky.

It's already in place for 2026.
Up to 2025 we had 24 Senior teams (originally all Senior, then split into 16 Senior A and 8 Senior B for the last few years).
From 2026 it's 16 Senior clubs, and the 8 former Senior B are now graded into Intermediate, along with 8 others who were already Intermediate.
So instead of our 25th best team representing us as it has been for a long time, it'll be our 17th from now on. In the case of 2025, it would have been Liam Mellows instead of Meelick. Mellows would be a good bit stronger.
It could be the likes of Portumna for 2026, for example.

Commiserations to to Tooreen who put in a heroic performance in Croke Park on Saturday. They should be proud of themselves and once again showed what a mighty little club they are.

Yes, it trickled down to Junior too, but not to the same extent. While Intermediate gained 8 senior B teams, and still has 16 teams, some of the bottom 8 intermediate teams were second teams, e.g. Clarinbridge's second team. So they've been moved into their own new 'reserve' championship. This means a few first teams from Intermediate in 2025 are now in Junior for 2026, but not 8 more. Our Junior representative should still be a good bit stronger though from now on.

Mayo facing Galway now two weekends in a row. My guess is both teams will field a majority development teams in the FBD and then go strong in the league game a week later.
