A massive win today. Brilliant to see a good crowd in Mullingar for a game for a change! I guess you'll get that with a big local rivalry. I thought McCartan was quiet again but overall a great second half performance for the 2nd game in a row. Made such a difference when we pushed up on their kick out. Stephen Smith looked lovely again today and probably only a matter of time before before he gets a start.

Wallace was missed today. I hope his injury is not bad if he is injured.

Roll on Newry next Saturday evening!

A fine performance for 20-25 mins was enough to beat an average Offaly side. Doubtful if we'll get promotion playing like that. We scored our first score from play in the 39th minute. Issue never in doubt once Kieran Martin goaled and we could have won more convincingly but chose not to for some reason. Newry next Saturday is a huge game as a win there will leave us with a great chance of promotion but we'll need to start showing better in the first half of matches. Down's defeat today leaves them little room for manoeuvre with Cavan looking uncatchable at the top. Ray Connellan, Kieran Martin, Sam Duncan, Conor McCormack most impressive today. Thought Sam Mc Cartan was more than decent too, drove forward repeatedly. Huge crowd again with both sides evenly supported.

Much better second half from Westmeath today after a slow start. A few lads were quieter than usual and Wallace not involved so we will take that result all day. Thought McCormack was impressive at half forward. The league is wide open now .

Did Loughlin shout something over at Dessie Dolan after being substituted? I was a good bit away but he appeared to point his finger in his direction before walking up to the stand.

Luke prob annoyed to be subbed off but not a bad thing necessarily as it shows desire. He had just kicked a superb 45 but was quieter than usual. We'll need him firing on Saturday

Similarities to Longford I guess with another game of 2 halves but Offaly didnt down tools like Longford. Kieran Martin's brilliant flicked goal came at a crucial time to put Westmeath ahead on 60 mins for the first time since the 15th minute. Goes to show importance of having impact off the bench. Connellan and Duncan forging a decent midfield partnership Maguire and Dolan showed their experience and were brilliant. Heslin such a warrior for Westmeath and the treatment he gets from opposition sometimes is tough going. Missed a few but still scored 1-4. OToole's GPS stats must be through the roof on distance covered. Team will need a much better 1st half next time out in Newry.

We seem to be only playing for 40 minutes which wont do with the Ulster teams.Id say 10 points will get us up so very little room for slip ups.

Westmeath were impressive again in the second half when they decided to play but I think we will have to win one from the away trips to Down and Fermanagh.Should be good enough to beat Tipp and Antrim in Mullingar and 10 pts should get promotion-but we need to start games quicker.

Think you're right in various ways. Score difference could be crucial in a tight group and ours is high. Felt we could have pushed on more yesterday late on when 6-7 up. Newry a big test but even a point there will leave us excellently set.

Westmeath probaly just stayed in the game against a strong breeze, ray connellan point before half time was important. Offaly shooting was poor, probaly should have had a bigger lead at half time, Westmeath seemed to always have one pass to many in first half and got turned over. Ray and Sam completely dominated midfield in the second half, the momentum swing was huge as every break in last 20mins fell into a Westmeath players hand. K Martin done very well when he came on, he won the free on sideline before flicking ball to net for the games crucial score. Subs all made an impact yesterday. We are back in the promotion race now, next week is a big game. Winners have great chance of getting promoted. Will be nothing easy in down and will have to play for 60mins. Any update on the injuries to Wallace, Smith (yesterday) and Gonude, 3 defenders with experience.

Score difference will end up being a factor...

I don't care what club we are taking about, but considering the fact that St. Lomans are already missing over 10 players with county commitments (hurling/football), surely its unfair that they are being told to field 3 adult sides between 2 o'clock on Saturday and 2 o'clock on Sunday. I'm told that their juniors are already effectively filling in for their Div 1 side (who'll be out at 2.00pm on Saturday) and their remaining Junior players are being told to play Div 3 on Sunday at 11.30am and Div 4 on Sunday at 2.00pm. Its no wonder they were almost relegated from Div 1 & Div 4 last year. Im not a Lomans supporter but its still not right in my opinion.

Can anyone tell me how every county surrounding Westmeath can release all the exact dates and times for league games and we can't? Players waiting until 5 or 6 days in advance to get notice of league games!

What do you suggest as an alternative? They have 2 teams at most underage grades each year and are aware of the county panelists for the last couple of months so obviously have the players. I'm not arguing that it's tough on lads but there's an obligation to the other teams in those divisions to fulfil fixtures when stated.

They know at the start of the year they're going to have x amount in with county set ups and need to enter whatever amount of league teams to go with that.
Killucan/Raharney Castletown/Malachys in same boat as are a few others I'm sure. Killucan first team operating out of div 3 for many years as a result

They shouldn't have entered a third team if they were going to be so short on numbers

This results in division 1 being (topsy turvy) when I go to a division 1 game, I want to see the best players in the county playing, not players from division 2 and 3, it also leads to the standard of football in the county declining.

Who said they didn't have numbers ??? Looking at this weeks paper it looks like they fielded around 50 different players last weekend in Div 1, 3 & 4, but with only 5-6 of those players who started last years county final, the rest appear to be all minor or Junior footballers. They should be cut some slack considering 2/3rd's of their Div 1 side are representing their County, the Downs the same. Why aren't the other 3rd sides (from Shamrocks, Athlone & Garrycastle) out this weekend ?
