I wonder will Dessie release the likes of Scahill and Baker for this ? Don't want to overload them and championship is priority but would be great for the U20's to be given every chance to get a few wins under their belt. Are they playing any colleges football ? Dessie will probably want to protect them for Offaly ? Can't blame him as both surely will be starters.

Good question re under 20s and league. Impossible for 20s management to plan for championship unless senior players are released. Presumably they will be as a good run in the 20s campaign is needed. Scahill and Baker should be allowed to play 30 mins each against Louth, Sean Leech is injured, we also have Matthew Whittaker, Danny McCartan and Jack Geoghegan from Loman's, Hanley from Tang, Sam Smith from Killucan, Peter Pierson from Tyrrellspass, Dillon Murtagh from Milltown, not sure about the keeper situation, David O' Reilly from Rosemount prob in contention once he's finished school's football, any other notable names? Looks like a decent squad. Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 1967 - 09/02/2023 11:17:05 2457412 Link 0 |
Is the keeper from last year, Lynam, not still underage? I think he is. Quinn from Kinnegad is another from last year still underage. Brian Cooney surely be there too. I imagine Moate have a few good lads, although a couple will be playing in schools final so won't be playing this game. Ormsby from Shamrocks and Corcoran from Malachys are probably the best of the u18s. Not sure if they are considered too young to be involved. Would be good to see a panel. I see Louth have theirs up.

I always think it is good for players to come up thru underage level and play if selected or available.Scahill and Baker were both excellant against Longford on sunday and would be a huge bonus for the U20 management to have them available to them.-tough call but you might see them both play a part at some stage on saturday. This is a probable team for our u20's that could compete with most .. I'm more than likely missing a good few options . Lakecounty94 (Westmeath) - Posts: 69 - 09/02/2023 15:19:33 2457491 Link 0 |
Liam Daly from Kinnegad is another starter I'd imagine at wing back, Podge Quinn another. Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 1967 - 09/02/2023 17:39:49 2457524 Link 0 |

Are the league fixtures out for next weekend yet? westmeathgaa11 (Westmeath) - Posts: 299 - 09/02/2023 20:55:57 2457550 Link 0 |
Ronan Hanley is overage; Tom Kelleher from Tubberclair has been the centre back recently. Claffey is also overage at midfield.

Any idea if league fixtures have been made yet; I know young lads in our club are already asking what days they need to book off work to play and yet we don't have a clue just one week beforehand. TigerWoods90 (Westmeath) - Posts: 155 - 09/02/2023 20:59:00 2457552 Link 1 |
Younger Baker worth his place on team. Criuse was best forward on show in Cusack in U19 Final last year A_Chairde (Westmeath) - Posts: 259 - 09/02/2023 21:36:06 2457556 Link 0 |
Should add in Murray, Bracken, Curran and Lowry from Moate. They have been outstanding for Moate CS in their run to the Leinster Final tomorrow . Tiernan O Donovan Caulry also. A_Chairde (Westmeath) - Posts: 259 - 09/02/2023 21:44:06 2457558 Link 0 |

Clubs are trying their best to keep young lads playing gaa. A lot of players are not in college working part time , or work shift work. How can players plan work when no one knows fixtures a week in advance? It's hard to ask a student to give up €100 to miss work for a game. Any wonder players stop playing. If they play soccer they know every game is at 11am on a Sunday and can plan work accordingly.

Changing of the guard on some the key positions in the County Board I'd imagine is the main reason. Fixtures secretary is a tough gig starting afresh but I agree 100% fixtures should be out 10 days in advance. I believe it's just div 1, 2 and 3 in the football initially. How can lads with part time or weekend work plan ahead ? BigSur (Westmeath) - Posts: 1176 - 10/02/2023 14:46:52 2457682 Link 0 |
Naas leading by 5 points in Portlaoise in colleges final. Bigger team and playing more direct football. Hard to see Moate pulling this back unless they get a quick goal. 10 mins gone in second half. 0-9 to 0-4 Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 1967 - 10/02/2023 16:00:53 2457707 Link 0 |
Unlikely Moate comeback on the cards possibly. Two unanswered points to reduce gap to one score. Impressive fight back. Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 1967 - 10/02/2023 16:03:17 2457710 Link 0 |
