Replying To BigSur:  "Suggested team for Longford:

Daly / Martin
Scahill
Maguire
Giles
McCartan
Wallace
Harte
Connellan
Duncan
OToole
Heslin
McCormack
Loughlin
Forde
L. Dolan

Would like to see young Smith, Dillon and Baker get a run. Not putting James Dolan on the scrap heap just yet, still has a lot offer but we know what he can do. In the main we seem short on defensive options assuming Gonoud injured."
a team along those lines has to start and with a better attitude

Well done to Moate CS on making the Leinster Senior Final. Lots of exciting prospects coming through around the county.

Huge talent coming thru the various schools but systems need to be put in place to nuture/coach/advise these young lads and girls.Proper academy structures/facilities are needed.A lot of good work is being done at this level but higher levels are required year on year-these young players are the future.

Roscommon's Niall Daly is the lead I believe with Tormey involved also.
I presume the likes of Rosemount, Caulry, Castledaly and Moate are well represented.
Bound to be be a few Offaly players too.

Westmeath have 4 schools in Leinster A (Mullingar, Rochfortbridge, Marist and Moate). Used to be 5 for a number of years, ACC now in B.
Kildare have 4 (Naas, Newbridge, Clane, Athy)
Dublin have 3 (Colaiste Eoin, Scoil Aodhain and Benildus)
Wexford have 2 (St. Peter's and Good Counsel)
Meath have 2 ( St. Pats and Ashbourne)
Offaly have 2 (Tullamore and Edenderry)
Carlow/Laois (Knockbeg) and Longford (St. Mel's) have 1
Louth Wicklow and Kilkenny have 0.

For a long number of years Westmeath have been the county with the largest number of representatives in Schools A football (Moate, Rochfortbridge and Marist have all been in finals since 2018).
Yet we continue to underachieve at minor and U20 levels. Moate and marist may have players from the likes of Roscommon and Offaly but are largely Westmeath players. How can we make better use of the schools to develop Westmeath county teams?

They are a good squad, well coached , strong at 6,Darragh Lowry in midfield ,David O Reilly at 11 and Conor Fox from Tubber at 15 is also a good lad .They have a few other forwards well able to take a score. Saw them play twice in challenges and they good team

From experience of school's football using Moate as the example any teams in the past have probably have a third of their players from Offaly when they have been strong mainly from Tubber Ballycumber and not this one but others had a few Clara's involved. I'd imagine the Athlone schools are the same with lads from Roscommon .

Mcartin since coming into the Westmeath side has been excellent but he probably regrets firing the gumshield into the stand but these things happen but the steward shouldn't have been sent by whoever sent them to get it.

Westmeath have loads of tallent coming through the school system and are fairly regularly represented in the later stages of schools ...

A staged development plan for a centre of excellence is needed. Its an old story... but pitch and facility availability is a big issue every year for development and underage (and senior!) squads (and coaches/mgt). Not to mention the morale boost WH underage would get from sharing proper faiclities with the Adult teams. Not simple ... but needed!

Whatever happened to the proposal of developing a county training ground in Loughnavalley I think it was seemed to be a good idea half way between Athlone and Mullingar and what the county is in bad need of

Look through the Sigerson teams or even the Fresher A teams ,you could count on one hand the number of Westmeath lads that go into third level and make/play on those teams
They come out of a successful school team at 18 ,go to college and in some cases dont play on any team or are well down the subs list

It's early in new manager's rein but Sunday in Pearce Park is an important game. A loss and promotion hopes are virtually gone after only two matches and were looking at a relegation battle to stay out of div 4. The team selection last week was puzzling to say the least with key players left out until game was almost gone and yet they seemed fully fit. A win is vital to keep our promotion hopes alive, otherwise pressure on new management increased
