A Loman's The Downs rematch in final seems much more likely now. Loman's at near full strength were imperious at times although Tyrrellspass were flat and seemed resigned to fate early in second half. Sam McCartan's form is superb.

The Downs were flat and never got into top gear. That is ominous for any title pretnders this year. Lomans looked good today with their best available team. Some comeback by Coralstown/Kinnegad v Athlone.
The top 4 deserved their semi final spots this year.
Athlone looked good at the start of the campaign but couldn't keep it up. Tyrrellspass were poor.

Replying To Iarmhisamhi:  "Kinnegad can jump three places with a win over Athlone, and as they have 2/3 players back, they probably will. If they don't, it will bring the curtain down on the current management, so the stakes are high. I think the final group standings will be
The Downs 10
Lomans 5
C/K 4
Shamrocks 4
Tyrellspass 4
Athlone 3"
Good call

It's a bad format really. Two teams still in it who lost 3 championship matches. Kinnegad 3rd place with 3 losses.
Shamrocks play Garrycastle next weekend.
Shamrocks win and they're through with 3 losses and Garrycastle would be out with 1 loss.
Hardly a fair system.
A team who loses 3 matches out of 5 shouldn't be able to come 3rd place really.
Hurling format was changed to prevent this happening where a team who lost 3 games were eliminated.

I don't ever give the county board much praise but this championship format is brilliant. The downs and garrycastle were the only 2 teams with nothing to play for going into this weekend. Every other team fighting for their lives, super way to finish the group stages

Garrycastle 's opponents in round robin hardly the same standard as Shamrocks . That comparison is unfair.

Exactly. Garrycastle will have the leeway in 2026 to lose a few games. They earned that right this year. Just like Shamrocks did last year, winning 5/5 in group B.

I wouldn't say anyone doubted Caulrys ability to get out of the group; id say people doubted Caulrys ability to win a senior championship like a few on here were suggesting would happen

Wrong, hurling format changed because Clonkill won a championship having lost 3 games.

Shandonagh, Garrycastle and Millltownpass all suffered defeats at weekend, all three had been unbeaten up to then, they all had 100% records and had qualified. Shandonagh have three weeks before facing Milltown or Castledaly so time to analyse properly what went wrong. Have Garrycastle or Milltownpass damaged their chances? Were they fielding well below strength?

I think they will test Kinnegad, but Kinnegad would seem to have a better squad and are now finally getting close to their best team, so I would tip them to win but not by much. They rode their luck at times on Saturday but were stronger overall and will improve. They have better individuals all over the field, so Caulry's 4/5 standout players will have to shoulder a lot of responsibility. I still think it's a possibility of a Kinnegad/The Downs final which would be a local parish derby and would not be an easy game for The Downs. I think they are the one team that the Downs would rather avoid if they could. If they had lost to Shamrocks, Kinnegad would be out! It is also fascinating to see if Garrycastle and Shandonagh will be damaged by losing their final games.

Nobody getting excited here was at the game yesterday and have to say Caulry v Moate was a very exciting game level at half time. Moate will take time to recover form losing this one to their neighbours. Moate big players went missing for second half and once Caulry got going they played some super football and Moate had no answer. Also have to say we'll done to Tang for giving themselves a chance of staying in the senior ranks by beating Garrycastle.
Overall I still think Kinnegad will have 2 much for Caulry in the quarter final and for Garrycastle 2 beat Mullingar in a tight game.
