As a garrycastle man we had no players involved in the county panel during the league whereas other will have some returning if we just avoid relegation this year with a couple of youngsters coming through next year and talk of gardiner returning it'd be a great season imo

Senior: Downs really should be winning it with the amount of Lomans absentees from last year. Tyrrellspass look to be only heading one way. After that the top group could go any way. A good side will finish 5th Bluelake (Westmeath) - Posts: 281 - 21/07/2025 22:52:40 2627013 Link 0 |
The Downs have a full team except for Egerton, they should top Section A. Kinnegad and Lomans will be happy to get to a quarter final, both clubs are missing players for the early rounds. Athlone and Shamrocks with a new manager will be tough nuts to crack. Would never rule out Tyrrellspass. Section B is as competitive looking as ever, Im tipping Killucan to make the jump up with Moate. Two up and coming teams. Caulry will feel the pinch being without Senan. Garrycastle, Malachys and Tang next best in that order. Tubberclair is the team on everyones lips to win Intermediate but Im not fully convinced this is their year. I think Shandonagh and Milltown even without Conor Dillon are better placed. A_Chairde (Westmeath) - Posts: 298 - 22/07/2025 08:39:16 2627026 Link 0 |
Aodhan Curran gone for the year Senan Baker will be back for the quarter final You might want to do some revision lakecounty90 (Westmeath) - Posts: 137 - 22/07/2025 09:42:08 2627033 Link 0 |
There mightn't be a quarter final for him to play in

What has everyone convinced about moate? You can't read too much into the league and they were essentially in a relegation final last year

Why have Caulry got an exemption straight to quarter final before a ball is kicked??

Dermot McCabe being nominated for Cavan job. Would be hard for him to turn down his home county but I for one hope he stays. He was given a total rebuild job and despite lack of wins and inability to finish out games I thought the way he had an inexperienced team set up and playing was positive in his first year. If he was to leave now so soon I think it would be a massive blow. If he was to leave you would imagine Mark McHugh would too and he seemed to be well got with players. Hopefully the lure of bringing on this team with the hope of no retirements and the return of Ronan O Toole might entice him to stay. mintyfresh (Westmeath) - Posts: 262 - 22/07/2025 17:40:07 2627231 Link 1 |
Ronan O'Toole won't be returning next year by the looks of it. McCabe doing quite well to get the Cavan job in my opinion, I'd prefer he stayed with Westmeath but it's not the end of the world if it did happen

If he's nominated for Cavan job then presumably he had to accept the nomination in the first place? Therefore he wants the job. That's usually how these things work. I can see the attraction of his home county, less travel, they're in a higher division, far better chance of being in Sam Maguire next year, his two main coaches are from Donegal and Derry so they're certain to welcome two to three hours less travelling per session. McCabe is a passionate Cavan man. I've been very impressed by his work, feedback from players is very positive, he'd be a loss and hard to replace. I think we need to start thinking about a replacement unfortunately. Other counties in a similar position too like Roscommon, Sligo, Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 2281 - 22/07/2025 22:17:31 2627317 Link 0 |
Dermot McCabe already employed full time as Games Development Officer with Cavan GAA so it would make sense for him to take up senior manager role as well.I really hope he and his coaches stay with Westmeath. He practicaĺly had to build a new team after the player exodus before the start of his tenure and has done well and was unlucky in a lot of games.
