He might be succeeding Des Farrell next year if Westmeath don't take him now.

Hearing this is a strong possibility. A very underwhelming appointment if true.

I understand Dublin U20's are after him also so you'd expect he has a difficult decision to make.

Were westmeath seriously looking at Mickey Harte as an option ?is Lar Wall out of the question ? philbrown (Westmeath) - Posts: 236 - 11/09/2024 22:30:54 2569470 Link 0 |
Lar Wall was mentioned here initially but some posters seemed negative towards his appt. It turns out he's one of only 2 candidates being interviewed by Meath county board next week. Robbie Brennan the favourite but Wall has a chance. Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 1945 - 11/09/2024 23:20:20 2569474 Link 0 |
Could it be that they have approached and spoken to a local manager-(from within the county) but whose club team is still envolved in championship knock out stages and so no announcement until that is finished.Being dragging on a while now so to me it points to a local who knows the scene. But what clubs that are still in the championship are managed by someone who would be interested in the county job ? I don't think Paddy Dowdall would have any interest. I don't Enda Monaghan or Johnny Murray would hold much interest either … I can't see cooney going back in either so I'm not sure with what's left in this county hold much interest or pedigree for the job

A load of nonsense. He might be part of the management team (which would have 6 or 7 involved) but he isn't the manager. So you are proposing a selector on a management team from a Club who haven't even made the 1/4 Finals in Dublin?

Agreed, and why not look closer at the Westmeath scene, the current county champions for example. Paddy Dowdall and Phillip Wolfe from Kildare, who is highly regarded in St. Lomans, alongside Peter Foy who has been the Strength and Conditioning Coach for the past 5 years or so. He is highly regarded. The reality is that St. Lomans are the benchmark in this county in both Style of play and Physical Conditioning.

Who have St Loman's doing defensive coach? Badly needed before they get torn asunder by a team with a few decent forwards.

Terrible idea. Lomans are the benchmark purely because of the depth of personnel they've had available to them on the playing pitch in recent years… I mean with the attacking options and strength in depth available, to be only getting by in games by a couple of points, and in a relatively weak championship in comparison with the top counties. Lomans should win the championship but I wouldn't bet my house on it after watching them a few times this year, and I wouldn't expect them to go on any major run in Leinster, more to do with their style of play than the squad available, the way they lost to Naas last year being my case in point, and from what I've seen this year not much has changed. So I wouldn't be inclined to go down this route while seeking a new management.

More to do with one of the selection committee withdrawing from process.

Torn asunder? When did that last happen? Dominant side in the county last 10 years or so, just reached another semi final after five successive wins, and lads here having a pop. Loman's not the most popular team in the county as successful teams tend to be but they'll go very close to winning the men's senior, junior, under 20 and Ladies senior title.

Has Michael O Leary ever been approached to source funding for Westmeath Gaa , a Lowry type war chest to plough in money. You need the right type of coaches and administrators involved at all levels for sure but the reality is huge money needed . Almost every top county has a major benefactor bank rolling the operation and then its all about hiring the right people . Are Offaly potentially gonna leave us behind in the next few years with the big spending ?why was cusack Park not sold during the tiger ? There was huge positivity in early 2000s and we never built on it for long term, invest in new ground , training facilities, was a chance to change the culture long term philbrown (Westmeath) - Posts: 236 - 12/09/2024 17:16:06 2569602 Link 2 |
THREE calamitous goals against Caulry in one half. 1-18?? Against Tyrrellspass. Two above average teams. It beggars belief how defensively poor St Loman's have gotten. Fortunately for them they have a inter county class forward line to get them out of trouble. It's like they adapt the "we'll score more than you if you score three" approach. Nah, seriously Paddy Dowdall knows how poor St Loman's are at the back otherwise he wouldn't have them set up as defensive for every game. Attack power will probably win them another championship this year but a Leinster title has never been as far away.
