Lomans v Tyrrellspass, Lomans by 10, thePass dont have same energy as previous years and dont see them troubling the hot favourites for Flanagan Cup Downs v Kinnegad, The Downs by 1, Has Luke found his way out of Sam Smyths pocket, big game player who can turn it on but tries to do too much on his own Killucan V Caulry, Draw Tyrrellspass beat Killucan, Caulry beat Tyrrellspass, Killucan beat Caulry? Killucan need a win to have chance of staying in top section and Caulry there best chance of remaining games Tang V Moate, Moate by 2, The two form teams, I think Moate have more in there locker to challenge the bigger teams Athlone V Shandonagh, Shandonagh by 2, Shandonagh were muck against Shamrocks and shoulve been beaten by more than 9 but can bounce back against a poor Athlone side Garrycastle V Shamrocks, Shamrock by 3, Garrycastle are heading for a dreaded relegation play off with Athlone if they dont get there act together fast A critical weekend for a lot of clubs. lakecounty90 (Westmeath) - Posts: 54 - 20/07/2023 17:27:25 2495862 Link 0 |
Thought Killucan's Sam Smyth has looked decent in the 2 games so far. From what I saw he totally snuffed out Luke Loughlin in the last round which is no mean feat. I suppose he has played county underage so is on the radar anyway. Sam McCartan no surprise either who is starting to outshine the older brother. Gahan, Fleming and Cooney (still U19) getting plenty of scores for Kinnegad as you'd expect. Enda Gaffney an interesting one, the young Delvin lad never got a decent run at senior level yet but has lots of ability - steady, mobile but not flashy. Could do well. I see Garrycastle can't field an u19 team due to be played this evening Thursday 20th against Shamrocks. That doesn't look good for the next few years as their senior team is struggling as it is. Baldy1 (Westmeath) - Posts: 83 - 20/07/2023 19:10:51 2495885 Link 0 |

Garrycastle not the only club that cant field at the moment at this level. U19 is the worst run competition in our county. 70% of players are doing leaving cert up to the end of June. Probably 50% are playing Junior/Inter/Senior Championship at the weekend. If I was a manager I wouldn't be happy if 1/2 of my starting players were playing a game 48 hours before a massive Senior Championship game. Most other lads go to the Gaeltacht or holidays during July and August. Championship should go back to u21 and be played as a knockout!!! well Minor goes back to u18 in 2024, so U19 will go to at least U20 I guess. It's hard to find a right time for it in fairness. Clash with senior/inter is a fair point. Holidays are not. Go on holidays if you want, but games have to continue. I remember attending an u21 final played in April of the year following ; so this is nothing new. jamsie (Westmeath) - Posts: 425 - 21/07/2023 11:00:09 2495946 Link 0 |
Anyone think it's a bit lazy on behalf of Westmeath co board to not play national anthems before games and especially games in the park ? Westmeath213 (Westmeath) - Posts: 296 - 21/07/2023 13:26:46 2495985 Link 0 |

Caulry's win tonight hugely significant, pretty much guaranteed a quarter final spot bar very unlikely results. Tyrrellspass vs The Downs is another massive game next round, a Tyrrellspass win would guarantee them a quarter final spot and also eliminate The Downs. Killucan look likely to be demoted with matches against Kinnegad and Loman's to come. Tubberclair look odds on to make a semi final after their third successive win and Rochfortbridge losing their third match in succession means they're favourites to be demoted to section B, Maryland's second win in section B guarantees their safety and they have a chance of finishing in the top 2, Finea's third defeat means they need points against Milltownpass or St. Malachy's. Kilbeggan still unbeaten in Junior and they and Joseph's look certs to finish top of that group. Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 1184 - 22/07/2023 22:09:55 2496196 Link 1 |
Went to the double header in Cusack this evening because I felt the county championship for 2023 would be on show! I can tell you, It's St. Lomans. The strength in the starting team and the finishing team is too much for any team to handle and I'm tipping them here and now for a huge run in Leinster. They finished stronger than they started and they didn't use TJ Cox at all this evening. Heslin was magestic. Their bench is scary good. They have 3/4 lads that are actually better than the starters. Kinnegad did not impress one bit In the first half against the Downs. The Downs heavily depleted now.. but not in a semi final… they will have a heavy artillery and will be there or their abouts. It's a Downs vs St. Lomans final again, (if the draw pitches The Downs vs Kinnegad) and for 2023 I can't see beyond a st. Lomans championship win. Head and shoulders above the rest. Still all to play for in section A. Killucan appears to be in trouble. Difficult to see Caulry gaining a point with there remaining games . Tyrrellspass could get a few, against the Downs and one from C/K. Icehouse (Westmeath) - Posts: 74 - 23/07/2023 08:44:54 2496213 Link 0 |
Will The Downs advance out of the group? They still have to play Caulry. Shane Currans men are flying with two wins in a row and should have beaten them in the Bridge last year. Garrycastle v Shamrocks and Moate v Tang should be good battles but unfortunately the rain has spoiled this weekends games as a spectacle. I was in Shandonagh for the Caulry and Killucan game played in horrible conditions. Caulry have a lovely balance to their team after shocking first day out loss to Kinnegad. Used the squad well and managing Conor McCormack's game time after injury and illness. Also observed first hand from behind the Caulry dug out how much influence Eoin Mooney has on the line. His experience for a young coach is great to see. The win last night almost guarantees Caulry at least 4th place and a 1/4 final spot because they have beaten Killucan and tyrrellspass they're ahead on them if it came to head to head. I fancy The Downs to finish 3rd. However they have Caulry in the final game and both teams could rest players in that match in preparation for a 1/4 final the week after Mountlin (Westmeath) - Posts: 46 - 23/07/2023 10:47:28 2496227 Link 0 |
33/1 about Caulry looks big now. Not saying theyll win out but good chance of ending up in final Well known Eoin Mooney is brains behind the operation there. lakecounty90 (Westmeath) - Posts: 54 - 23/07/2023 13:57:00 2496245 Link 0 |
Nothing written in football planning report about it. I believe if it's two teams level it's head to head. If 3 teams level it's score difference. If two teams level at bottom of group B there will be a relegation play off.

Caulry pretty much guaranteed to qualify with four points, Killucan need four points from remaining two games m to overhaul Caulry and Tyrrellspass need to beat The Downs to qualify, how can The Downs rest players vs Caulry if they're on maximum three points? They won't be through. Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 1184 - 23/07/2023 14:08:33 2496249 Link 1 |

Terrible evening for football last night. Was in Ballinacarrigy for the junior double header. First game a poor affair due to the conditions.. St Paul's only scored one point in the last 45 minutes of the game but still managed to hold on to win. Second game was a brilliant game. Great scores and skill on display considering the weather. Bun started brightly and were on top before Kilbeggan came back into towards the end of the first half. Kilbeggan just had enough to grind out the win. Free taking for Kilbeggan was top notch. Bun are in trouble, need to win their remaining two games to get out of the group. westmeathman99 (Westmeath) - Posts: 93 - 23/07/2023 14:50:10 2496262 Link 0 |
Lomans and Kinnegad looking like favourites now to top section A with Lomans most likely to win the whole championship out. I'd still fancy The Downs to finish in top 4 with Caulry. Tyrrellspass and Killucan to go down to section B. mintyfresh (Westmeath) - Posts: 199 - 24/07/2023 13:58:31 2496541 Link 0 |
