I'd agree on the penalty incident, Fennelly has a track record of getting away with blatant barging.

A real snatch and grab by Ballyhale yesterday, but a 2 point lead is a very dangerous one and the big question is, did a foul have to be given where it was given in that last minute... it gave Ballyhale a free shot and they took it. TJ is absolutely deadly.
People will correctly chat about the penalty, and it did at first look dubious but on second viewing it did look that Fennelly was pulled down around his neck and helmet.
Very difficult for St Thomas' but Shamrocks are a great team and you don't have them beaten until the final whistle.
Ballygunner were pushed all the way by Sleachtneil and the Waterford men have a lot to think about before they play in the final. Some magnificent skills and scores during both matches from all 4 teams.

I taught myself Fennelly should have been penalised for leading with hurl head high before he was fouled.

Replying To baire:  "The turning point in the St. Thomas V Ballyhale game was the awarding of the penalty - a wrong decision by the Ref. Colin Fennelly charged with his hurley up high, knocks the defender who was standing his ground and then he dives. It most definitely should have been a free out. All credit to Naomh Tomás, they still kept playing, were the better team all day and went two points up. Even after TJs second goal Naomh Tomás kept going, were fouled again twice but the ref ignored it. Yesterday Fennelly wasn't allowed to run his usual 7-10 steps with sliotar in hand so he resorted to charging and diving."
I can't understand how referees aren't wise to him yet, he's always barging and getting away with it.
That said fair play to Ballyhale, took the chances and scraped through. Really looking forward to the final , has the makings of a cracker.

I thought the officials in both games were good. Talking to players and not falling for over dramatizing by players. Even if judging that some incidents would have been dealt harsher in other games. However I do feel the penalty was a mistake. The ref has a spit second to make the call. Charging and the player just holding hid ground. Here is one of the calls that would take 10 seconds to review. That, always red cards and the ball crossing the goal line at the officials discretion. The penalty should be called and reviewed. Announced: "On review the player was not fouled". Throw in the ball. "On review the player was fouled so the call on the field stands". Penalty. Fo god sake it is 2022 lets move on and into the present and future. The officials are entitled to make a mistake, get help, change a decision and also be protected from any form of abuse with serious censorship for anyone who think they can do it.

On the penalty aswel as the debate of the awarding of it I think the ball was inside the 21 when TJ struck it.

Where's the money going to come from to pay for this reviewing technology?

In England, The Premier League is the only league that has VAR. It's too expensive for the leagues below.

That's true. The sliotar definitely crossed the 21 before he hit it.
Overall the ref had a good game. I do feel he got the penalty wrong, but apart from that he got the majority of decisions correct and didn't kill the game with countless frees. Credit goes to both teams in this regard too. They got on with the game and there was very little messing.

Less than half a yard at most. Splitting hairs though. On the penalty decision I watched it back multiple times on TG4 sports twitter and there wasnt one time that I could say it wasnt a penalty. I've been critical of Fennelly in the past but thats a penalty all day long for me. I just dont see the argument against it. It was not barging and the yellow card was justified. He was not letting going of his head/helmet until he hit the ground.

Gareth Brooks' concerts will cover it!

Cockney the GAA can afford it and like the poster below said money from Brooks concerts. The technology is getting better and cheaper. Soon all this will be available from a drone with pinpoint accuracy. Money is not the problem. The same people don't want two refs on the field or properly trained paid officials. Stuck in reverse. They just want all the decisions to go their way and whine when they don't. Personally I don't have much complaints about either referee yesterday. There were more mistakes than the penalty caused St. Tomas to loose. Some calls will always be subjective. However making the officials job easier and raising the bar seems to be a good idea.

That's what makes calls subjective. I would have awarded a free out but we can agree to differ and the call did not cause St. Thomas to loose. They would have won if they defended the last minute free properly. T.J. is a bit of a genius but conceding a goal just left of centre at belly or chest high is poor. Line the goal properly or just the goalie on his own because he would not be beaten from there. If it hopped in from of someone or went up under the bar understandable. No surprise what he was going for.

Will someone who knows the rules a bit better than me please explain this for me. When a 21 yards free is awarded in hurling in front of the goal all opposing players have to be outside the 21. When a 21 yards free is awarded to the left or right of the goal as many of opposition players as want to be can be inside the 21.
First is the above correct
second how far left or right has the free to be for opposing players to be inside the 21

As I said I dont know the rules on this but it had a direct bearing yesyerday because in my opinion it was the Ballyhale players inside that distracted the defence and this had as much bearing on it as TJs brilliant shot

I'd be in full agreement Tiobraid. That half yard isn't the reason Tom's aren't in the final.

Thought Thomas's were the better team and definitely did most of the good hurling until the 2 sucker punches at the end which is what KK teams do so you have to be about 10 points better than them to beat them by 1 most times? Thomas's also cut down drastically on the number of frees against them as that had been one of their weaknesses in years gone by i.e. conceding soft frees. Re the Thomas's MOTM I know people mentioned the likes of Fintan Burke, David Burke and Conor Cooney (who was very good on the frees etc. but also missed 2 scorable chances especially a vital one in front of the posts in the second half), but personally I would have given it to Bernard Burke who I thought put in a powerhouse display up and down the pitch putting in vital tackles like the one on TJ early in the second half, setting up scores e.g. lovely blind cross field pass to Eanna Burke for one of his points in the first half and the one for James Regan in the second half as well as scoring 2 points of his own. Didn't deserve to be on the losing side IMO but sport can be unfair sometimes.

The free doesn't make a difference because if St.Thomas' had kept focused and not fouled him in the first place they would have won!
All Ballyhale could score in last 10mins was two soft goals.
Best team threw it away.
Great scores from St.Thomas' throughout the game.
Ballygunner to win the All Ireland by 7 or 8pts.

A poll from a page on Instagram had it at exactly 50/50 after 1000 votes. For me as a back you dont put your hands up around the opponents head or you're giving away a free. I think he could have defended that an awful lot better.
The keeper was a calamity for the last goal. For some reason he rushed out of his goal when TJ rose the ball and had to run in arc around Fennelly to get out where he wanted to. it was farcical from Thomas'. TJ's has ridiculous power but there's no way he should be scoring from there especially at waist height.

Its a good question. I would have hought all forwards must be outside the 21 if it was a 21 yard free. Not sure if it was a 21 yard free or was just outside it though...?
