Mckenna Cup 22

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I see the draw for the pre-season McKenna Cup competition will take place within the next week, with the first round of games to throw-in on the evening of Friday, January 7th and it will be run off within a 15-day window, with the second round of games down for Tuesday, January 11th and the final group games on Saturday, January 15th with the semi-finals are on January 18th and final itself is scheduled for just four days later on the 22nd, a week before the National Football League campaign is set to get underway.

Anyway, the question I pose does any county participating team take it serious? other than those Tyrone ones who are so up hung up on glory seeking that they'd even enter a three-legged or bag race if they could show off.

Heard they're not taking the first round in Ulster championship seriously. There's talk of them sending their masters team for 1st round.

That's a top class response. Fermanagh people need to know their place. Someone from a county who has never even won a provincial championship giving out about the current all-Ireland champions taking a competition seriously. Goodness me

On the point of Fermanagh, who by the way has the smallest population in Ulster to draw players from, did they not knock your great Monaghan team out of the Ulster Championship in 2018 allowing our gallant Fermanagh team into the final?

Monaghan must be aiming for the All Ireland with Buckley and Sheedy on board.

No Ulster title at all? OMG! Even little Leitrim with the smallest population in the whole country could manage a provincial title or two; as could wee little Louth, the smallest county in Ireland. Even Kilkenny has 2-3 Leinster football titles.

But no title at all??? Is there any other county that bad?

As I well know, Ollie. However, I kept it to provincial titles. If I went off mentioning AI titles, I reckon that poor Fermanagh poster might feel completely overwhelmed, and might never again come back to post!

I have great time for Fermanagh and it's GAA community but I can't see them ever winning Ulster, as they say half it is lakes the other half is protestant,
the last big shock in Ulster was Cavan winning it when we took our eye of them and were think about playing Dublin in the semi final in 2020, that doesn't happen too often.
Hopefully of things go well we might get a chance to put things right against them next year, that's if we have a Championship at all.

Louth have 8 Leinster titles and 5 of these were won in the Wee Countys golden period in the forties and fifties. 1957 is the big one. The smallest county in Ireland beat the biggest one in the All Ireland final.

Would it be fair to say that the derrygonelly team would beat the best of the rest in Fermanagh?

What a stupid assumption Leitrim bogman. Derrygonnelly found it hard going in our county championships and even had to go to extra time too against Dromore in the Ulster club. And by the way why is it your business to comment on our Fermanagh team in a Cup competition that has NOTHING to do with Leitrim?

That's a pretty strange response. How many AI's , or Ulster championships/provincials did you win, or play in? probably the same number as the Fermanagh poster! By the way Colm O'Rourke a Leitrim man (born there) won a couple of AI's.

In all fairness, Fermanagh has the least amount of clubs compared to any other county in Ireland. All considering I feel we compete very well. Although no provisional titles, We have come close a few times and hopefully that spell will be broken one day. Also, an all Ireland could have been in our back pocket if 2004 went our way (Savage fermanagh team)

The posts denigrating Fermanagh's achievements are childish & insulting to the many great Gaels operating in that county. They admirably get on with the cards they're dealt & every so often the right group of players come along, with good management (e.g. 2004 & 2009) & many a so called bigger county receives a bloody nose from the Erne men.

Why is it a shock Cavan winning Ulster we have 40 Ulster titles, can you match that and only for a certain referee you'd have lost by another five or six points and yes if we meet you next year you will probably win but it wasn't a shock Cavan winning Ulster in 2020 as I said we have loads of them.

anyway if yiz can take a break from the Fermanagh bashing and looking back at the 50s and 60s for previous glory days for some counties, you might tell me when the draw is made for Mckenna cup??

Its clear counties have voted for it instead of bothering with arranging challenge games as thats all it is and really is all its ever been in the modern era. Depends how early teams start training heavily too as to how they do
Fermanagh will always need the stars to align perfectly to ever get silverware, but we continually punch way above our weight and I'll settle for that and recent regular shocks against arrogant neighbours keeps me ticking over in the winter months.
