There are two sides to the story id imagine many of the Locals want this because it brings lots of money into Dublin & all that area around Croak Park it brings one of the post popular artists in the World to their own doorsteps for 5 nights, of course the converse is also true locked in your home from maybe 5pm -1am am and perhaps a small element of messing. The GAA & Croak Park are in the business of promoting Gaelic Games so money generated allows them to employ Coaches and better facilities to lure young boys & girls away from other Field Sports. The relationship with Croak Park & the Residents is apparently in fine form nowadays the GAA having spend money on Community projects Handball Alley ect. You cant please every one but IMO we will have thousands from Ireland & all over the World in Dublin with a huge amount of badly needed money pumped into Economy I hope the Locals share in this wealth & enjoy a great occasion. Played until I was 46 and don't ever recall a Dublin club game having to be postponed because the Munster hurling final was on. Indeed, I recall being in Tipp and going to Thurles after watching a junior game. This cult of the club is a nonsense when used as an excuse to reduce the prominence of the game at top level. You'll have clubs full of people who don't play watching the Pool and United in August now. Wake up and smell the coffee wafting from the board room in Dublin 3. But on the other hand, if you continue the inter-county season into August and September, you'll have clubs full of people who should be playing at that time of year but who can't play.....because about 30 other club players (and maybe not even one of them from their own club!) won't be available for club action since they'll still be with the county team. Also, if a non-playing club member would prefer to watch soccer on the telly in August instead of going to see their own club play, you'd have to wonder how much of a club person they are anyway. What kills us in Kerry is we have probably a 35 man panel (not 100% on those numbers) but 10 of those lads won't make the match day panel and 15 of them will get no game time, yet those 15 won't be released back to their clubs for some reason. Will we ever see the day when county squads remain separate from clubs and counties run their own championships and not be slaves to the intercounty games? If county players want to return to clubs after intercounty season then good for the clubs. A big stumbling block will be clubs with intercounty players being at a disadvantage so getting clubs within a county to agree would be tough. But both county and club players should have a clear plan of their seasons, able to plan for holidays etc. GAA talk about player welfare and burnout. But seem happy to take the gate receipts off the backs of intercounty players sweat from league and championship, have their split season and then off with intercounty players to their clubs training and playing nearly all year round. Buying property next to a stadium means there will be crowds of people there on certain days of the year. Its sometimes hard to guess what your neighbours on the street will be like before moving in, but crowds of people showing up to Croker would've been common knowledge to all. So what's the issue? Very patronising comment saffron. Generation's of families have been living their long before concerts were the main crowds around Croke Park. GAA matches or conferences wouldn't be the issue, it's the over use of Croke Park as concert venues. There a balance to everything and this this the balance has tipped badly. It is a totally ridiculous argument to claim that they are. Based on no statistics whatsoever. It's just a slogan. Junior lads complaining that Dublin or Kerry being in an All Ireland final is stopping them playing. Ludicrous. And I've heard all the arguments at meetings. Indeed the worst offenders in regard to finishing even senior championships late have been counties whose inter county season has ended in June or July! The fact that the house has been in the family for over 90 years long before Croke Park ever held concerts.
