Croke Park isnt empty for large parts of the year though. Its used year round with the meetings and events and then the museum every day getting loads in the doors making money.

Croke Park is primarily a stadium to hold crowds of up to 80,000 people. Its primary assets are the stands and terracing to accommodate such crowds. With the new condensed inter-county calendar, there will be several months of the year when its primary assets aren't being used for gaelic games, and therefore the potential is there to use them for other events such as concerts.

Its main focus is on the matches but theres is a very substantial meetings, conferences/events as well as tours business and theyre used every day/week. Saying Croke Park is empty is simply false. Croke Park is a multi use events venue used extensively year round
meetings, conferences make money year round be it the corporate boxes etc or premium rooms as theyre used on non match days the assets of stands and terracing dont make any money when no crowds to full them

you keep saying the seats are empty for large parts of year as if its an issue. it isnt as financially croke park will make more than enough with its meeting rooms, spaces, conference rooms etc

Well, you're partly correct, in that I've had to point out more than once (and explain in greater detail than I would have thought necessary) that the stands and terracing are empty for large parts of the year.

However, I never claimed that's an issue. My original point was simply to say that as the condensed inter-county calendar means that the stands & terracing will no longer be used to host large match crowds during August and September, there will be more opportunities to host concerts there instead, as an additional income stream.

I never suggested that Croke Park will have to hold concerts in order to make up a financial shortfall, and nor did I ever suggest that there are no other income streams there.

Hopefully THIS time we can move on. :)

Well, you're partly correct, in that I've had to point out more than once (and explain in greater detail than I would have thought necessary) that the stands and terracing are empty for large parts of the year.

However, I never claimed that's an issue. and still doesnt mean that there will be more opportunities to host concerts considering there is concerns of people living nearby and the mens inter county games are not the last finals/games to be played in croke park any year.

Ah look, boss. You can argue that black is white if you want to. Fact of the matter is that both senior All-Ireland finals are to be played in July next year. Only way there'll be a men's match in Croke Park in August is if the football final goes to a replay.

Under the old way, August/September would bring possibly a football quarter final (or Super 8s) match or two, and definitely two hurling semi-finals, two football semi-finals, the hurling final, and the football final. That gives at least six and possibly as many as eight possible dates where you could hold a concert or other event now, but where you couldn't in the past because the ground would have been in use for a match instead.

The fact that there'll still be camogie and ladies football there in August & September makes no difference to what I'm saying, because you couldn't have held a concert on those days in the past anyway.

Likewise, the fact that local residents may have concerns or that there may be other associated issues make no difference either to the bare simple calendar-based fact that there will now be more dates with the potential to host a concert, since there won't be as many matches being played there at that time of year.

Let me emphasise even more for you: I'm not saying that there should or will be more concerts. I'm simply pointing out there will be more dates with potential to host a concert, if anybody wishes to consider staging one, despite all that entails.

Hopefully you understand now. Either way, I'm done with this discussion. None so blind as those who won't see, and none so deaf as those who won't hear.

The Munster semifinal between Cork and Kerry was supposed to be played in PUC in May but itll have to be moved to another venue now because Ed sherran is playing there and they have to dig up the pitch.

Peter Aiken and Croke Park are the money grabbers not Garth Brooks, that said the objections are mounting up to Brook's and Sheerings gig's, it's being put out there now that there are a couple more in the pipe line, it's said Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band are being lined up for a Croke Park date next summer..
