Many thought he would be Galways Manager by now but now that that's gone what will be next for him? Trump2020 (Galway) - Posts: 2113 - 22/10/2021 13:42:46 2386822 Link 0 |

No where in Hurling for him now, plenty of low profile counties would take him but I cannot see anyone in top 8 or so touching him. arock (Dublin) - Posts: 4895 - 22/10/2021 18:53:57 2386879 Link 2 |

Wouldn't be surprised to see him over the Dubs whenever Mattie Kenny departs, only stumbling block I could see is if he didn't like the fact its the 2nd code in the county, never had that with a team he managed.

Yeah he'll do that but I'd say he will grab a team sooner or later.

If he's no managerial, coaching or backroom role by next April I'd say The Sunday Game could be a big possibility. bostonredsox (Wexford) - Posts: 4368 - 24/10/2021 09:13:58 2387089 Link 2 |

Reality is he is a top manager with a proven track record at club, college and county level. Has won pretty much everything and with non big 3 teams. He will be back managing at the top level again. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 11734 - 24/10/2021 21:34:08 2387221 Link 2 |
The only county I could see that happening with is Dublin. None of the other big counties would want him.

Prob fair comment Viking but the third level competitions he won would have won by sides managed by Ole solksjaer, Davy had star studded teams. In relation to Clare's success a large element of that was luck with big teams having an off year and Kinnerk's influence was huge as seen by Limerick's subsequent successes. Davy turns people off because it's all about him. Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 1478 - 25/10/2021 15:24:00 2387306 Link 2 |
Agree that would be his likeliest destination Bon. He would be a good appointment for Kildare or any other 2nd tier county though. I know some people find his public persona irritating but theres no denying his love of hurling can be infectious. He would certainly raise the profile of hurling in any county he got the top job in.

Most of the 3rd level teams are full of intercounty stars these days and were then too. Not sure Solksjaer would have won with them though! I know it's going off on a tangent but the biggest problem he has at Utd seems to be that he doesnt choose the players they sign. Too many players who think because they are superstar household names they don't have to run and harass and pressure the opposition. Completely different to Liverpool and City and Chelsea. If you look at the current Limerick hurling team while they undoubtedly have big fit men who are also great hurlers it is the heart and desire they show that wins them the matches. Just take another look at them closing down the Cork lads when the game was already won. Back on the subject Davy is definitely his own worst enemy when it comes to the public perception of him but most players who played under him seem to have great time for him. Very few seem not to and most of the Clare lads seemed happy to see him whether we beat them, which admittedly was rare, or not.
