Not great again in Cusack Park but a win is a win and a place in the final when it looked unlikely. Two wins on the bounce, I hope the lads gain some confidence from this and keep the momentum. Davy Glennon, Niall O'Brien and Jack Gillen crucial off the bench.

We are not playing well no doubt about it but still are only one game away from Division 1 status for only the fourth time in half a century. We will have to improve a bit to do it.

Good to get d win, and to. play the final in Chroke Park if that's the case but so so much to work on. Lost count of the amount of lads overplaying the ball, getting turned over and wareward passes going astray, putting Kerry back in possession. If we're like that against TJ and his mates next month, we will be ripped apart.
To be fair to Kerry they never gave up could have won it.

I would not worry about TJ and his mates just yet.If we give possesion away next week like today Sheehan and his mates will blow us away.We have players capable of much more but for some reason its not happening.

I think Kerry would have won if Mikey Boyle wasn't sent off.

He is a massive player for them.

Niall O'Brien and Davy Glennon have to start the final, they make others around them play better. Cracking goal from Glennon also.

will westmeath or Down go up automatically if they win, no play off with offaly?
I think Westmeath will get it right this time against Down, havent being playing well considering some of the class players they have but still getting over the line, the first half against laois last july in the league playoff was the best i seen westmeath play in a long time and if only they could keep doing that.

Perhaps. Westmeath managed to keep 15 on the field and Kerry didn't. We likely wouldn't have been relegated from division 1 last year vs Laois had we managed the same.
Glad to get the win regardless and hopefully a good performance next weekend to get over Down.

Best of luck to our senior hurlers this weekend in the league final in Semple Stadium, and best of luck to the u20 hurlers away to Carlow in the Leinster championship.

Likewise best of luck lads if both teams play to our best we can do it.

Good luck. Always drop in to see how things are going. Would love to see a push up because so often ye look like long belonging at a higher level and then seem to step back again.

Well done to our u20 and Senior hurlers on two comprehensive victories today. A great day for Westmeath hurling. We got the performance we expect from our lads, well done to all!

Savage win for seniors in Thurles. Totally dominated in every sector after the opening quarter. Glennon has become our most important player, man of the match in last year's McDonagh and again today, Westmeath clearly the superior side in this division especially when it came to knockout matches. Down couldn't live with us on a big pitch.

I know you took some flack for a comment earlier in the league campaign by pointing out Westmeath as the best team in the division, but all in all you were right.
It just took them a long time to find their feet with patchy performances, and it could have gone all horribly wrong.
They played some horrit sloppy hurling and sill managed to muddle through to the final.
I believe it's correct to have raised expectations from a team that's as good as we've had in a couple of decades.
There's a team full of talent there.
With the right guidance and effort, there's no reason that Westmeath can't emulate Laois and shoot to stay in division 1 hurling for the next several years at least.
This will be a great shot in the arm for Westmeath hurling.

Just glad to be proven right. The other sides in this division are not as strong as previously and our squad is definitely reaching its peak. Massive challenges ahead in only two weeks so presumably celebrations will be limited to a few beers tonight and not drag on until tomorrow

You were right in what you said a few weeks ago, and that's what was frustrating during the league campaign because we know what we are capable of, thankfully they showed it today and played some lovely hurling. We could have probably even won by more than 14 points only we became naturally complacent towards the end given the game was already over. Its a great boost heading into a tough Leinster championship campaign, but this is where we want to be.

A great day for Westmeath hurling yesterday with two good performances. The seniors gave easily their best display of the season but even then got lazy for the last twenty minutes. That wont do in the weeks ahead.I make no apology for telling people not to underestimate any opposition as leagues and championships have to be won and we have an unbelievable ability to mess things up.Remember the four division 2 and two Mcdonagh finals lost. That said we played well yesterday without key players. The under 20s have some talented lads but are very young.

thats a good win not a great one, westmeath will be in division 1 now again making it 3 times out of the 4 last leagues, Has that ever happened before, i dont think so, There still huge improvements to be made though, the pace of the game yesterday is still a bit behind of the real top teams, players need to be more clinical in front of goal, at times westmeath yesterday looked like they were trying to walk the ball into the goals and were caught out a few times, Take your scores and the goals will come. Hopefully the league draw will be kinder in 2023 and the possibility of a win or two which they are capable of with the quality players at westmeaths disposal.
