Strong looking team and in contrast Antrim gave quite a few new faces, nine of last year's championship team that won easily in Cusack are not involved for a variety of reasons, obviously McManus the most well known absentee but this represents a great opportunity to make a statement ahead of McDonagh, Westmeath to score 3 goals and win by 5

Replying To Dheen:  "Good to see David O'Reilly start at corner forward, promising young attacker, good in the air and well able to take his scores. David Williams at centre forward and Killian Doyle at corner forward. Mitchell out at half forward you'd imagine Conaty will rain ball down on top of him."
What i like about this forward line is not only Mitchell but Doyle,Mccabe,Reilly and Boyle are well able to win their own ball unlike in the past when we had skilful players who had to be fed possesion. We have to be careful about overuseing "Mitch"as a ball winner, that will allow the opposition counteract it.
If we can avoid injuries and get Cormac Boyle,Davy Glennon and Aonghus Clarke 100% we can have a real go at Macdonagh.

A good win, subs made a difference with Davy Glennon's goal sealing the two points, first goal had a touch of good fortune, excellent boost to our confidence ahead of McDonagh Cup, disappointing attendance for our last home league game.

The poor weather conditions may have factored into the attendance. Killian Doyle, Peter Clarke and Davy Glennons impact off the bench was noticeable. Conor Gaffney excellent in the backline and David Williams super again.

An important win its never easy with Antrim and there is room for improvement with Aonghus Clarke and Cormac Boyle to come back and Robbie Greville,Davy Glennon, Aaron Craig and Killian Doyle should all improve a lot.The last named though is the big mystery.Named to start today, didnt come on till half time.Hes hugely talented but he has played very little over the past couple of years and the clock is ticking.
We are well capable of giving Dublin plenty of it next Saturday so lets do it and finish 4th which would be a very good league for us.

Killian Doyle has played plenty for Westmeath? And he was unfortunate to miss the championship last year due to injury. He was very good when he came on and will only get better.
I was really impressed once again by the u20 lads and excited to see the 20s this year.

Antrim seemed to have regressed massively in the past 10 months, they outplayed us in the championship last April, today their hurling was nowhere near as sharp but the most worrying aspect for them was that they only seemed to have six subs togged out, that's extremely unusual in the modern league, teams can select 26, they could only field 21, they are going to be cannon fodder in the McCarthy Cup

Very different Westmeath team as well to last year with the four u20 lads playing, and Killian Doyle back.

Yes I'm looking forward to seeing the u20s this year.its a mammoth Leinster campaign and a long road to the final. Is there many involved last year still eligible this year. I think they could do well.

8/9 of the team who started in the 4 point loss to Wexford last year and also have the addition of Darragh McCormack back who was injured for the whole season last year. Potential to do well, haven't heard much about them thus far though.

They easily beat Kildare friday last and played a Galway senior outfit Sunday without the seniors. It has to be a problem for them not having Gaffney,O Reilly,Williams and Clarke.Going back to Antrim last year Mitchell was hardly 50% right as well and as Dheen said we didnt have Doyle who i agree will get better. But i ask did he look fit today? Hes some hurler but at championship we will need him 100%.

Well done today. Deserved win for Westmeath.
We had 6 of last years team playing today, and yes a thread bared squad.
Neil Mc Manus is retired from county duties.
The rest?
Let me put it like this.
We will look forward to meeting you again later in the year.

Antrim nowhere near full strength at minute wouldn't get too carried away.

Yeah it probably is a bit of a problem for Kevin O'Brien and the rest of the panel are vying for 11 positions for the championship realistically.
Those 4 lads will walk back into the team after doing so well in Division 1.
Killian didn't look fit yesterday and that's why he was used for the second half vs Tipp and then yesterday as well.
He will more than likely play a half vs Dublin next weekend as well. It'll be geared towards having him and Aonghus Clarke fit for Joe Mcdonagh. Hurling wise the two lads are as sharp as always.

Wouldn't be too worried, only losing by 6 pts flattered Antrim yesterday, we missed a couple of goal chances and put a few easy chances wide towards the end of the game. Our team have a good few u20s on it as we've had players step away this year.
I see Antrim u20s were beaten by Derry in the Ulster final, Derry take Antrims place in Leinster.
