I believe Mickey Dan Murtagh is taking Clonkill - is that his first hurling gig as a lead ?
I know he has done bits before and was over the Ballycomoyle footballers in 2023.

He could potentially knock the Gaels outa the championship for a second year running.

Heard through the grapevine that Darren McCormack is taking Castlepollard.

He is going in at the right time. Clonkill had there worst year since 98. Couldn't be a better time for a rookie manager to cut his teeth

I'd argue it's a difficult gig for any manager in Clonkill. Hard to see them contending for senior championship in next 2 years minimum, will the Clonkill executive give a novice manager 3 years? Very doubtful based on track record within the club. They need a goalkeeper, centre back and free taker and 5-6 players are playing senior last 15-16 years or more in some cases. Decent minor team in 2023 but at least 2 years before those lads are seniors

That was said after Clonkill lost in 16 and 17 too..
Went on to win next three championships. If he gets top 3 it's an improvement. Last year was a disaster in senior and intermediate. It's a good time for him to go in.

Clonkill won three in a row from 18-20!!! News to most hurling followers I'd imagine. Making the top three in Westmeath hardly ground breaking, there's only 4-5 senior sides competitive, if Clonkill don't make a senior final by 2025 there's no chance they won't change manager.

No problem, it's a win win for Dan Murtagh. No big expectation

Parnell Park wont be an easy start for a very young panel Next thursday. I hear we may have 1 or 2 of our stalwarts back later in the month and training going well except for one or two suffering from golfers elbow

That'd be great, we will still have those two, Niall Mitchell, the Doyles, Jogger, Egerton, Clinton, Keyes etc among the younger players. Is Davy Glennon committing for another year?

I think we should move away from bringing Galway lads to play for westmeath.

Yeah I think the same but in fairness to Glennon he's done well for us since coming up. Should be some team news this evening

Glennon has done more good than bad for westmeath hurling, one of his parents is from westmeath and he does seem genuinely interested in pushing and helping westmeath forward. I can think of loads and loads of players from stronger hurling counties that threw their lot in with weaker counties around the country and ran off then after a couple of months for one reason or another. He's committed to the cause
