Corofins net is massive. The amount of parishes it overs... even the parish of Claregalway. Sure the sub goalie James Healy should play with Claregalway and not Corofin. And his cousin Tom plays with Annaghdown. Crazy when you think of it.

Not one to jump to Corofin's defence but.... They do have a large pick but its drawn from within the parish. Daithi Burke is the only exception that I am aware of and in that instance there is a level of justification as although Turlough lads typically play for Claregalway , they do have a choice as Turlough parish has no football team and with the strong family connections it was a no-brainer call to go to Corofin, where I understand he played all of his underage too. I think , also, that you might have your Healy's mixed up anotheralias (Galway) - Posts: 979 - 18/11/2021 14:53:59 2389889 Link 0 |
Belclare with the deflection tactic. As per. Both Healys should play with Claregalway yet James plays (or used to play) with Corofin. Strange. Peggy11 (Galway) - Posts: 84 - 18/11/2021 14:59:11 2389891 Link 0 |
I'd agree on those 4. John Daly would have been a starter barring recent injury, I'd say. Michael couldn't commit this year, but I'd hope to see him back next year. Finnerty has obviously played quite a bit underage, but he has developed well since then. The one argument against him might be that he lacks pace, but he's a strong forward who can win his own ball and knows where the posts are. Kelly would definitely be worth trying too, as he gives a very different option than most of our forwards. He's very hard to handle under the high ball. I'm a fan of Finnerty but don't think he is cut out for senior inter county

I agree Mountbellew have an array of talent there, The above you mentioned without a doubt also Foley and Mannion could be options, no doubt lots of them will be drafted in at the start of the intercounty year. Sean Andy and Barrett on Naomh Anna side that played with Galway in recent years and also a couple that played underage for Galway teams O MacDonnacha and Seoige. They could be drafted in early on to be worked on, both had terrific seasons.

Incorrect. James lives in the Annaghdown parish. His family are great club people. Tom, his cousin, lives on the other side of the road, which is Turlough parish, so he can choose what club he plays for. He used to play for Annaghdown underage, but transferred to Corofin around the minor age group.

Amazing the way that Liscaninane, Claregalway falls into parish of Annaghdown. Peggy11 (Galway) - Posts: 84 - 19/11/2021 10:29:47 2389949 Link 0 |
ROFL at Bernie. The Mountbellew keeper is an absolute shoe in. Does the basics and does them well.

Great to see Tipp Hurling manager bringing back the divisional competition in Tipperary to see players who mightnt usually get a huge amount of chances at the highest level. You would love to see it in Galway , have 4/5 teams like they have and run it over two weekends. I think in Tipp its free entry but raising money for local charitys. puckemhard (Galway) - Posts: 234 - 19/11/2021 11:22:03 2389957 Link 0 |

Agree with most with the following changes: 1. Damien Boyle MM 3. Billy Mannion MM 13. Brian Mannion TS hashtag2017 (Galway) - Posts: 173 - 19/11/2021 11:45:37 2389962 Link 0 |
Other way around anyway. James plays for Annaghdown - Tom for Corofin. I seem to recall James coming on as a sub for Tom while still a minor in the 2013 AI u-21 final. Went on to have a mare for the minors later that summer against Mayo unfortunately. galwayman2 (Galway) - Posts: 1307 - 19/11/2021 12:26:57 2389972 Link 0 |
Certainly looks a fine player. The (limited) bits I saw of him he didn't look hugely pacey which at I/C level is nearly a pre requisite. However he may surprise. Sometimes the bulkier looking players can actually move more than they are given credit for. Really hoping we get the 2 Daly's into the squad. Mike can disappoint at times but he certainly has that bit of stardust and on the dry summer sod can be a game changer. John i think is better the Dylan Mchugh. Mchugh did ok last year but John Daly is a level up IMO. He was outstanding before his injury. Very commanding at CB. Would love to see a corner back that everyone hates emerge! We need someone like that. Patrick Kelly, with his physical capabilities, certainly deserves a look. Any other potential county players emerge, maybe from clubs that didn't do to well? What club is Martin Quinn? Matthias Barett in midfield, Oisin MacDonnacha at 12 for sure. I wouldn't have Ronan macdonnacha at 14? They didn't even make it past the quarter final. Tyler from Oilean Arainn at 14. Team of the year: 1. Conor Gleason 2.Declan Rhatigan 3. SA Ceallaigh 4. Colin Lyons 5. Ciaran Bairead 6. Sean Mulkerrins 7. Patrick O Donnell 8. Matthias barrett 9. Matthew Reddington 10. Eamonn O Loinsigh 11. Warren Seoige 12. Oisin MacDonnacha 13. Dylan Seoige 14. Shane McGrath 15. Karol Healy What is team of the year and player of the year picked from? Newspapers? Referees? Shane McGrath (Dunmore) picked up two man of the match awards from newspapers (Tuam Herald) as did Oisin Mac Donnacha (Naomh Anna) from the quarter final stages on. Naomh Anna were winners so they will have the player of the year, Dylan Seoige, Mathhias Barrett and Oisin Mac Donnacha were the impressors for the Connemara side throughout, I believe it may be between them. McGrath could feel hard done by not getting an all star, he starred for them throughout. Galway_1972 (Galway) - Posts: 13 - 19/11/2021 13:45:28 2389986 Link 0 |
