It's a fair point to make that the clubs need to drive their own development of their juveniles and some clubs are stepping up to the plate but is it not incumbent on the county board and its development officers to ensure that clubs are getting their players to required standard ? I'm not sure that this is always the case. Is there a minimum level of coaching that all clubs should have in place. I wonder if it is then a case that possibly "weaker" counties - I would not put Wexford hurling in this category - don't have the necessary coaching levels and oversight that the more successful counties might have in place and that these be continually monitored at county board level ? know that we would not be in the same field even as say Dublin, who have been receiving "special" treatment from Croke Park for years, if not decades now. Have Croke Park any function in ensuring that county boards have proper recognised coaching structures in place for all clubs in their jurisdiction ? Wicklow played quite well yesterday on the heavy pitch, we created more goal chances than Dun but unfortunately didn't convert , we got cleaned in midfield early in the second half which gave the opposition a chance to put 5 quick points on the board. Positive enough with players to return." Lack of skill , cost us dearly. We had enough goal chances to win that game. Although have to admit Down cut through us too easy. And we had no plan B for our kickouts, which is unusual to say the least for a county set up. I'm indisposed presently and can't get out but from reading the team selection and subs I would imagine that inexperience at senior inter county level was the main culprit. That can only and will improve. I heard a discussion this morning on how the Ulster teams had performed well over the weekend and the feeling was that this is because the Dr McKenna cup is taken very seriously by all Ulster teams so in terms of preparation they are a bit further down the road than their southern counterparts. The outgoing management team will be a hard act to follow and if the best hurlers can't be persuaded to line out Bosco could be doomed before he starts. The footballers actually impressed me against down. I though that we would be bet by 15+. A 5 point loss is is very good for that team against Down. Although maybe Down are understrength this year. We might sneak 1 win if we get lucky with bad weather or get a few goals. There are a lot who were called up but did not want to commit, however, as bad as the team is currently, I don't think there is one other player out there that would automatically start under the age of 32. You can't be relying on players aged 30+ to continuously commit to county football, especially for Wicklow. There are massive amount of players that would add to the panel but not automatic starters. Hurling is dire in the county. The template for all clubs in Wicklow (especially boarder clubs) is what Bray did. Go play in Dublin and get proper games and play in a proper set up. Carnew are definitely missing a trick here by not going into Wexford. I think Blesso play some underage in Kildare and their main players went to Naas (which helps massively!). Wicklow county team without Bray players is Longford/Leitrim standard. I can see why Bray players are not playing, they are just going to concentrate on Dublin leagues with Bray. Its more enjoyable than county, extremely high standard and very professional. I can't see any manager getting them to play unless Dublin league doesn't go well. Basically if you are from Wicklow and want to do well try get exposure to decent set ups and then come back and you will be the best here.. Schools hurling is non existent except for Carnew who would have 10 out of 15 from Wexford. Schools football very poor, most teams in Leinster D. Did any team win any match in Leister C? No Leinster B or A teams. An extreme positive is the amount of Sigerson players we had. About 6. But also note if you compare us to other counties we are still extremely low.. To be fair it is a very young tean but is well set up. A few wins would give then a lot of confidence and judging by the performance on Sunday there is some potential for a win or two in division 3. Negative is the team continues to fail to take their chances. There may be a positive in this and it is, at least they are creating chances and I would hope that composure in these situation will develop with experience. In my opinion, Down and Westmeath are my favourites for promotion. In terms of relegation, we will be competing with Limerick, Sligo, Clare and Offaly to avoid relegation. I think Antrim will stay clear of the relegation zone as they are a seasoned outfit competing in a tough province. The games I would target for points is Clare, Limerick and Sligo. I would hop that we are competitive in these games with a good chance of getting some points.
