Interesting odds this week. Kiltegan and Rathnew to draw seems a good bet. The bookies have them even. St Patrick's to beat Blessington looks fairly sure. Arklow must be going to hammer Eire Og as they are big favourites. Tinahely seems a solid bet to beat Bray. Saintanto (UK) - Posts: 6 - 28/09/2023 13:11:02 2506108 Link 0 |

With the weather the way it is, I don't think I'll be spending 40 quid on these. FrankieJoe (Wicklow) - Posts: 87 - 30/09/2023 12:21:16 2506363 Link 0 |
Very poor conditions in Aughrim today and football to match in first match. Tinahely scraping over a poor Bray side. Blessington got all the breaks to beat St Pats. Some awful decisions in both games by referees. The pitch will do well to host all of the games this round. heavyheart19 (Wicklow) - Posts: 146 - 30/09/2023 21:45:07 2506411 Link 0 |
AGB v Blesso.. Agb by 6, nothing stops this team, they've sorted out their midfield from last year and have score threats all over the park. willielee (Wicklow) - Posts: 42 - 02/10/2023 10:16:25 2506558 Link 0 |
Officialwicklowgaa.ie has Blessington playing both AGB & Tinahealy and no mention of Rathnew. ;-) I streamed one of the matches at the weekend. The stream was shocking quality. Dropped out for about 5 seconds every thirty seconds. TopDrawer (Wicklow) - Posts: 65 - 02/10/2023 12:45:27 2506610 Link 0 |
AGB versus Blessington and Rathnew versus Tinahely. Based upon what I have seen AGB and Blessington are two best teams in the competition; probably should have been the final but that is the draw. Rathnew have a never say die spirit which will see them get to the county final. I think it will be AGB versus Rathnew in the final. Hand on heart; I could see Rathnew getting to the county final at the start of the year but once again they have proven me wrong. Overall the championship has been very open and competitive but I would be concerned about the standard of football. I don't think the standard is just a problem in Wicklow; I think it is a widespread issue, too much emphasis on athleticism and conditioning and not enough on basic skills. This should be AGB's year; I think it is their championship to lose. A note of interest; two of the teams - Kiltegan and Tinahely were in the relegation playoff group last year and made it to the quarter finals twelve months later while two teams: An Tochar and Baltinglass who were semi-finalists last year; didn't make the quarter finals this year. Just proves how closely matched the teams are in the county. wicklowsupport (Wicklow) - Posts: 2038 - 02/10/2023 14:10:04 2506637 Link 0 |
I streamed two of the matches at the weekend. The quality was a joke. The first match was stop and start, and the second was a complete and utter waste of money. If Wicklow GAA are charging a tenner then at least provide a decent service. I think both semi finals are wide open . Extra time might come into play. Let's hope we actually have some decent weather for a change. roseyinthegarden (Wicklow) - Posts: 118 - 03/10/2023 09:49:49 2506737 Link 0 |
Tinahely by 5 at least. Tinahely far better than Kiltegan and they had Rathnew bet out the gate last week. Arklow by 4 as they look the best team around just now. Both intermediates be tight and both could need xtra time. Coolboy and Balto for A final.

I have been watching The Village for close to 60yrs. I keep saying that you write them off at your peril. They have had more miraculous escapes than poor old Lazarus. I wouldn't be surprised if they won it out. You are quite right in saying Kiltegan had them last week, but you must play to the end. Sometimes that green and red bearing down on players is enough to put them off and they do tend to get many "50/50" decisions go their way - for whatever reason. Having said that, I have thought since their first game against Tochair that the 2023 championship was AGBs to lose.

So, the final will be Blessington versus Rathnew. Despite been written off by me, Rathnew have translated their league form into a championship run. I won't even write them off in the final. Blessington have come through under the radar; no poster has picked them even though they were champions two years ago. It will be an interesting final; i would say a 50:50 game. It is hard to know if AGB have what it takes to get over the line. I really thought this would be their year but alas not. wicklowsupport (Wicklow) - Posts: 2038 - 08/10/2023 17:23:36 2507360 Link 0 |
Today showed again that AGB and also an Tochar by the way are physically too small for senior football. The final should be a cracker. Albundy19 (Wicklow) - Posts: 77 - 08/10/2023 21:23:13 2507435 Link 0 |
I will agree with you on this Albundy19. Unfortunately many of our better younger footballers are still a bit on the "light" side. Not just AGB and Tochair As regards the final, it depends which Blesso team turns up. Historically they wouldn't have a great record in championship against the Villagers. If they play to their strengths it could be a cracker. But they will need to. There is no hiding place once you step out against the red and green in Aughrim. Many a fancied team has found that out to their cost. Rathnew know what is needed to win titles

Looking forward to a great final. 2 teams not many would have predicted being in the final yet here we are. AGB looked like a team that believed their own hype, they remind me of Blessington of old. They were stunned when Blessington took the game to them and it took them a long time to get going. Rathnew are Rathnew, they know what they are good at and they play to their strengths. What can be said about Staff that hasn't already been said.. Blesso were champs two years ago and seem to have gotten the team back together after a lot didn't play last year. It's going to be a cracker! wondershorts (Wicklow) - Posts: 291 - 09/10/2023 14:30:36 2507578 Link 0 |

Is this the worst county championship since St Mary's won it? neutralfan (Wicklow) - Posts: 224 - 10/10/2023 20:38:47 2507792 Link 0 |
Hmmmm. Rathnew had other ideas. Wonder was it the 50/50 calls that got them over the line ;) . AGB will win a Senior over the next 3 to 4 years. As will An Tochar, despite what happened this year. If both keep improving as they should with their young panels. In my opinion anyway. But this year it will come from either Rathnew or Blessington. Probably to a lot of peoples surprise. There will be very little in this game. 1 or 2 points either way. I'll go Rathnew by 2

People calling this 50 50 just dont get. Any one who watched the matchs Sunday must see Blessington far better side than rathnew. Theres no way James Stafford will do similar Sunday week again that Blessington full back. Rathnew are a poor aging team. It's a bad look out for county that they can get get to a senior final. I ll eat my hat if they get within 6 points of Blessington. Way to reliant on fellas who domt have the legs any more. Pat Mustard (None) - Posts: 389 - 11/10/2023 10:03:30 2507826 Link 0 |
