Yes - AGB looked good v an Tochar. Perhaps its now time they fulfilled that potential from that impressive minor team a number of years ago. Who do we think will be fighting for relegation? Kiltegan and Dunlavin seem to be closest to the drop based on the years performances so far. ANy thoughts on the intermediate championship? A few surprising results - Valleymount beating Laragh, Barrendarrig and Newtown both winning. Donard and Carnew played out a great game in Baltinglass too - seems very open with each team capable of beating eachother

Replying To wicklowsupport:  "It will be interesting to see if AGB can finally get over the line. I agree they are a team that has a championship in them but have failed at the latter end of the championship so they will be doubted by me and others until such time that they do cross the line. The main lesson from the weekend matches is that there is a world of difference between the league and the championship; the two teams that contested the league final are not going to factor in the business end of the championship. The less said about Bray's effort the better. Baltinglass will be happy with their result and will be there or thereabouts. Dunlavin have a lot of work to do if they are going to make any sort of an impact. Scoring seven points won't get you much in terms of results. Blessington are another team that seem to be on track to challenge agin, it will be interesting to see how they perform in the next round of games. Does anyone know why Kevin Quinn wasn't playing over the weekend? An Tochar need to get their full team on the field if they want to make the same impact as last year. This year's championship like last years is wide open."
Yes - be interesting to see if AGB can finally deliver from that impressive minor team a few years back. Any thoughts on relegation fighters - kiltegan and dunlavin would seem to favourites at this point but a lot of games to be played yet. Intermediate looks open - some suprising results with Valleymount beating Laragh. Newtown and Barrandarrig with some impressive wins. Donard and Carnew played out a great match in baltinglass by all accounts, but the championship seesm to be open in general - most teams capable of beating eachother.

Also any players to keep an eye on?

Tinahely seem to be motoring.... the Wicklow People online mentioned that Rory Stokes was missing but where is Matthew Guing this year?

I am told that Rory Stokes has a serious knee injury. I have heard nothing on Matthew. I didn't make any games this weekend but mostly they went along expected lines, with the possible exception of Balto being held by Eire Og. I don't think too many saw that coming. We will have to take a closer look at that Greystones outfit.

Blessington looked very good at the weekend. Good result for Tinahely but would take with a pinch of salt. St Pat's are a poor side and will likely be playing Intermediate football in the near future when the old guard retires. Baltinglass playing a very modern, defensive brand of football. Will draw it's critics but it has been effective for many county teams over the last two years. AGB seem to have a great balance of youth and experience and are in a good place. At the moment I'd have to say Blessington would be my favourites with Rathnew as dark horses.

Senior
Baltinglass are poor and Eire Og look very average.
An Tochar and St Patrick's have been the 2 big losers so far.
Rathnew have been ok and Tinahely are showing their quality in the forward line.

Agb and Blesso win again with ease and will stroll into the quarter finals even if as I expect both won't show their hands this week.
I expect these 2 to be the final.
Dark horses Tinahely and outsiders Rathnew.
Relegation will be Dunlavin or Avondale!

Intermediate
As this point I will go for Annacurra to win this battle.
Carnew, Hollywood, Coolkenno and 2/3 more could easily prove me wrong.
Whoever it is will not get anything easy!

Junior A seems to be a little more straightforward.
Ballinacor/Ashford/Balto/AGB

I will say Balto here, a few lads who should be in the senior set up plying their trade in this grade. Playing to their potential they will take some stoping.
Ashford always good, some good experience in the forward line to open teams.
Ballinacor are scoring well if the keep it compact at the back they have a chance.
AGB don't go as well as they prob should at this level. Hard to understand as their seniors are going very well.
Young and eager but lacking the experience.
If they get their act together there is the makings of a challenge there.

I have to agree with all your selections Willielee. I had been chatting with a few people close to Pats before the championship started and they were all concerned that this year would be poor set against last year. I always thought that Tochair needed a few years in senior proper - league etc to harden up and gain experience. It was lack of experience found them out last year, in my opinion. I have always advised against writing off the villagers. They are a bit like a terrier, never far from your ankles and they love it when you underrate them. Balto are indeed a puzzle. I don't know what way the draw will go but Blessington and AGB will be good bets to reach the final on form shown to date, if the draw allows.

Looks like Oisin McConville ratified for another year. Made steady progress this year. Important to survive in Division 3.

A very good question. A bit like the question every April May - have you heard the cuckoo yet ?

Had a helping hand. I seen all game at the weekend and Greystones can rightly be aggrived. Will still qualify from that section.

Don't know what's going wrong with Baltinglass this year. I saw St Pats previously and I can't understand how Baltinglass didn't take them. By all accounts pats were full value for their win. An tochar have been disappointing. AGB are the team to beat. Bray and kiltegan aren't out of it yet. Make the quarter finals and its a different ball game. Tinahely are being decimated by injuries. Interesting last 2 rounds to look forward to.

I was talking to a few neutrals who were at that game - that is is there is such thing as a neutral - and they each made the same observation as you. I can't comment any more on it as I wasn't there. All I can say is that the village have won some games over the years that they should have lost, and for a variety of reasons. Let me hasten to add, many of their wins were on merit. Good, open football, but not all. Anyway, things are what they are.

Good wins for the u14s against Roscommon at the weekend. New academy squad set up for the football seems to be working well.
