Massive win for Carnew today, absolutely riding on the crest of a wave at the minute and who knows, with the way this year has gone they could go win it all!
Tinahely Baltinglass game should be a cracker tomorrow, think tinehely are just peaking at the right time and will shade it by the slimmest of margins

So, first semi done and whereas I had tipped AGB to go all the way in 25, I've had grudging respect for Carnew since they beat An Tochair. I liked the way they handled Rathnew - cool heads and just getting on with it. They are by no means a one man band. To me, Fogarty on the Tochair team marshalled Brosnan pretty well and they still won. They could be a good bet for the double this year now. I crossed the gap tonight to watch Kiltegan and An Tochair in u17. Kiltegan won at a canter and look a pretty imposing team. I've never seen a stronger, fitter or better coached minor team. They are all big strong fellows and should win the thing out now. The future of football looks bright in Kiltegan, if it isn't already. Some of these minors look like they would slot into any senior team.

So, Baltinglass's experience in championship fare saw them through in the end. Should be an intriguing final now with them and Carnew who also always seem to be able to just do enough. AGB must surely be beginning to doubt if they will ever reach the summit. I really thought this was their year. Balto would have to be favourites to win Miley now, but now that Carnew have sight of that trophy for the first time in many years, Balto won't get anything easy. At the beginning of this campaign who would foresee Carnew in the final. Fair play to them and their coach's. Plenty of food for thought here for Oisin. His county panel haven't exactly been shining lights throughout the campaign. Of the 50/60 players involved in the final, how many are on the county panel. Something doesn't add up. Not to be disrespectful to those players who do commit to the county, but why don't more players want to get involved ?

Carnew are defintitly the story of the year. Saturday's game wasn't great viewing overall but Carnew won't care a bit I imagine. They come with a plan, stick with it and have big strong men in key areas, They've a fabulous attitude around getting on with it. Several times on Sat they made great use of the solo & go to keep momentum moving in an attack and keep Arklow on the back foot. They can mix it up, playing retention with Brosnan pulling the strings but then not afraid to deliver it in when it's on too. Would be great story if they can go all the way now.

Hard to know what to make of Arklow. To me they seem to have an abundance of a very similar type of player - young, athletic , strong runners with good technique but are lacking some bit of guile or cuteness like a Keith Byrne or a Tommy Gill . someone that when it's there for the taking will grab it by the scruff of the neck and take the responsibility to win you a free or get you a goal.

The 2 pointer than Brosnan kicked on the stroke of half-time was worth the admission price alone.

Best of luck to all teams as we come towards the business end of the season, football finals known and hurling known after this weekend. This is not intended to be disrespect or anything as teams are in finals on merit and have to put in serious work to get there BUT coming to the end of the senior football championship you would have to be worried about the standards and quality of football now, I was more worried about hurling as it would be my preference at the start of the year but as a county I think we might be going backwards even more so in football. I had a think about main/key players for all teams in quarters even and for 5 maybe 6 of the teams there main men are all in the autumn of their careers (great servants). Again not meant to be disrespectful but anyone thinking about the long term should be worried imo

Arklow beat Aughrim in this county minor final a few years back so they will both be strong i would think. Any others?

As a Carlow man I have been to many games in Wicklow this year. I think that yeer championships are absolutely brilliant and wide open but would have to agree that the standard isn't wonderful. Would the top teams win championships in Carlow, Wexford or Laois? I'm not so sure.

Senior Hurling results as expected. I'm not sure if Bray are ready to relinquish their grip on the cup yet. Should be a good final. Be great to see Aughrim win the intermediate.
I have been slow to tip Balto all year and they have surprised me every time. I give them the nod over Carnew next week. I think the fact that last years intermediate winners made the senior final tells its own story about the state of play with standards in senior football in the county. I expect the Dales to lift the intermediate crown.

I wasn't at the senior Hurling semifinal today but someone told me that Bray are only hurling in 3rd gear and won't be caught in the final. The Dales didn't turn up today, bray might have been better having a training session.

So here we are at the business end of the championship. Avondale v Hollywood and Carnew v Baltinglass. What are people's thoughts on winners? Would be a huge accomplishment for Carnew to go back to back championships but surely Baltinglass experience would see them through? On the intermediate, Avondale are unbeaten and are probably favourites, but Hollywood have been knocking on that door a while, perhaps it's there time? What players from the 4 teams have impressed? Welcome all thoughts.

Big win for Rathnew this evening in the u15s A championship in Bray, that's a double for village as they also won the 13s A.

I haven't seen as many matches this year as in recent years. Based upon what I have seen I think Carnew have a fighting chance of winning tomorrow. A lot will depend on how they manage their nerves in the build-up to the game and how influential Ben Brosnan is. There is a lot of pressure on Baltinglass gong into this final. I believe this is their sixth final in recent years and so far they've won one from five which is a poor return. I think they're an average team but they've proven me wrong a lot of times in recent years. They'll expect to win tomorrow. I hope it is a good game to finish the championship and that the best team to represent the county in the Leinster champions prevails. The winners of our own county champions will play the Kildare champions which a lot of objectors think will be Naas again. In terms of our own senior county championship I think it's been a poor enough championship which seems to be the consensus with a number of onlookers. In terms of the county team, I don't see much new talent which could aid the county team and with our promotion push from Division 4 and go one step further and get to a national final.

I seen Hollywood and Avondale drew the intermediate final and it's gone to a replay. Some commentary over on Facebook about the final few moments of that match. Was there a controversial decision made by the referee that resulted in a draw game? Does anyone who was at the match know what happened?

I am informed that Hollywood were denied a controversial penalty.

It had to be the worst co. Final in years. It was over after 25 minutes

Will Bray make it 7? I think they will. Of Carnew are going to do it, this has to be their year. I'd be afraid they might regress if they don't and Kiltegan, Glenealy, Avondale and Pats are years away from challenging. Bray could be heading for 10 or more. Scary thought but it's the way things are looking.

Yes from a neutral point of view, there was limited excitement for us supporters. Playing with the wind in the first half, Carnew made very little use of this and really seemed try shut up shop and make this a low scoring game. They sat deep and struggled to break when they did turnover ball, often giving the ball back to Balto with some poor play. I think Balto's experience really shone through here and their game management was impressive. Many don't like them for whatever reason but you have to credit them for churning out teams year on year and compete at the top table.

On a side note I thought it was very disappointing to see a long line of kids at the fence at the end of the game and stewards not allowing them in to both greet their heroes and commiserate with family and friends. We talk about growing the game and what better way to do it than county final days. A poor decision yet again from our county board. Thankfully they made their way on to the pitch in the end and both sets of supporters got to greet their senior players.
