Wonder are they keeping the tickets in other sections for those buying large numbers coming on buses? Can't make it this week unfortunately but hope the lads do us proud and we can get another trip to the big smoke in a few weeks Dunlavin4Miley (Wicklow) - Posts: 19 - 21/06/2025 09:50:13 2619580 Link 0 |
Very best of luck to the lads tomorrow in Croke Park. If we played like we did last week we have every chance of getting into the final. The big pitch might suit Limerick better than us, but here is hoping we have our shooting boots on stringfellohawk (Wicklow) - Posts: 138 - 21/06/2025 11:41:02 2619598 Link 0 |
I find it strange saying this but I'd kind of like Wicklow to win tomorrow so best of luck. Limerick have their division 4 title and promotion so that's enough for them this year. Plus they have their hurlers to shout about. Onion Breath (Carlow) - Posts: 1597 - 21/06/2025 13:20:39 2619612 Link 0 |
We don't have the hurlers to shout about anymore :( but that is one of the reasons why tomorrow is so important for Limerick football too. The footballers are completely overshadowed by the hurlers and are mostly forgotten about in the county, but the footballers deserve their day in the sun too. In saying that, I am glad that either Limerick or Wicklow will make the final as it will mean so much to both teams and it does show that there is no need for a third tier. Even in fairness to Waterford they were competitive in all their games for long stages. Good luck to both teams tomorrow. county man (Limerick) - Posts: 1154 - 21/06/2025 21:24:20 2619738 Link 0 |
A tough defeat to take. 7 points up, a slight mistake by the keeper, a missed penalty. It came back to haunt us but it was an enjoyable season and I do hope oisin , players and management go again next season and get out of Division 4. kodak13 (Wicklow) - Posts: 86 - 22/06/2025 15:56:47 2619903 Link 0 |
Good pogress is being made by this management team so i'd like to see the current management remain for at least another year but we'll have to wait and see. Defeats like today make the job harder. I thought the players seem nervous but got themselves into a great position. Jackson's mistake was turning point. Two defeats to Limerick this year, both times Wicklow were in a winning position but failed to get over the line - one draw cost the team promotion and today cost them a place in the Tailteann cup final. If this team is to achieve anything they must learn to win these types of games.

Jackson's mind was obviously somewhere else but the sensible thing was to leave it go wide and kill off 2 more minutes. 100% there is no man better right now than oisin to take these forward next year. He has 3 years worth of knowledge on them. We don't need web searching for a new manager hopefully

Just back from that disaster. sponger (Wicklow) - Posts: 2952 - 22/06/2025 17:34:09 2619924 Link 0 |
Listening to the car radio, it seems Oisin is unsure about his future plans which I guess signals he won't be back. Your point about allowing the ball to go wide might be right choice, no one will ever know. Our players always seem to get these important decisions wrong. This might be harsh but in tight and important games, players must get the majority of these decisions right. To gift Limerick a goal and miss a penalty is a six point swing. We played well for long periods but again kicked too many chances wide. I hope this young team learn but the critics will say they are only learning very slowly.

Another tough one to take, but to be fair all of the players did thier best. Jackson's mistake was fairly critical, but has won a good few matches for us in the past so we can forgive him stringfellohawk (Wicklow) - Posts: 138 - 22/06/2025 18:21:37 2619944 Link 0 |
The really annoying thing is after looking at the other semi we would have been in with a good shot to win the cup! stringfellohawk (Wicklow) - Posts: 138 - 22/06/2025 18:29:28 2619947 Link 0 |
Just back also. To me, our habit of shooting wides played a part again. In the first 10/15 minutes we had 5. Young Stone was unlucky to lose his footing for the first Limerick goal. The keepers somewhat belated decision to field a ball that was going wide was bewildering and then the missed peno. We missed out on promotion by not taking out chances and today could have been different but for the same reasons. Some of our players - one in particular in the first half - seemed to have difficulty holding onto the ball, particularly on kick outs. Fair play to Limerick, they stuck in well and it paid off for them. Their bench also was more influential than ours. I thought in the last 10 mins, we looked bereft of ideas and possible a little leaden legged in the forward division. It sounded ominous when I heard on the radio that Oisin was unsure of his future. Plenty of excuses online...... sponger (Wicklow) - Posts: 2952 - 22/06/2025 19:20:57 2619972 Link 0 |
Frustrating defeat. In the first half we weren't direct enough. Too many passes too many recycles. Not direct enough. For a 10 minute spell in the 2nd half we went for them with running direct football and it worked and went 7 clear. We needed to continue like this but instead went back to overpassing and no one shooting. Jackson's error and their goalkeeper's two 2 pointers reeled us in. The penalty miss - a disaster.... Outscored 1-9 to 0-0 from the 54th minute to the 67th minute.. Hard one to take. Wicklowman (Wicklow) - Posts: 1145 - 22/06/2025 19:42:37 2619988 Link 0 |
A 12 point turnaround in 13 minutes is up right there with anything that has gone before. On a par with the loss to Kildare of which that great Martin Lynch run was part. I just don't know what the answer is or where it is. Limerick did a similar job on us in the league game. Think it was 5 points pulled back instead of 7 but it showed what they were capable of. That game got them promotion and consigned us to Div 4 for at least another year. I know it's tough on the players but it's also tough on a whole new generation of supporters. Are they destined to endure what us old supporters have ?. With the exception of a Junior AI, the Tommy Murphy Cup a B all Ireland l, and an occasional league title, my lifetime of watching Wicklow football ( almost 70yrs) has been pretty low on memorable moments, so it was more a sense of de ja vous rather disappointment that I took home with me.

Until we can kill a game off properly in a pressurised environment, then we can all it progress. Too many easy wides cost us not only today but throughout the year. Wasn't for the lack of effort but a bit of cuteness is lacking unfortunately. Great Wicklow support , crying out for something or someone to follow. roseyinthegarden (Wicklow) - Posts: 131 - 22/06/2025 20:36:52 2620012 Link 0 |
I feel your pain as another longtime GAA follower (not Wicklow). It seemed wrapped up after 50 minutes with your 7 point lead. However there are lots of positives for Wicklow. Hopefully under good management you can continue on an upward curve starting with promotion next year. saorkick (Dublin) - Posts: 23 - 22/06/2025 22:02:01 2620037 Link 0 |
Agree totally. I'm not sure that if Oisin walks it would improve the situation. Although he might feel that he can get no more out of these lads . 3 yrs, I'll leave it to others to say if we have made progress. He has to get credit for forming this bunch of players. When he took over, many left the panel and he had to start over almost. They are a young side and it remains to be seen if their shooting boots can be straightened. If they could, it will sort many problems. We were easily worth another 5/6 points today.
