The question is what level are we talking about, as in how prevalent is it among players percentage wise. That's much harder to estimate. There's no testing at club level. Intercounty testing is managed by Sport Ireland. It is infrequent however, given the number of players and games. Resources are an issue, as it's expensive to test. As I said, I'd be surprised if any of the top intercounty setups are doing anything systematically, but players can easily do it off their own bat. Why are we talking about PED's on a Sligo forum 2 days before our biggest game in my living memory?! How are the team looking for Saturday? I assume we are planning without Mulligan and young Walsh? What kind of a crowd are we expecting in Cavan? Great interest in the game. There are flags flying from houses that normally would have zero interest in football. The forecast is good so we really need an almighty crowd to head to Cavan town. I presume, like last week we won't know the team until about an hour before the game starts. Really looking forward to the weekend. Great weather, great team, great final to be looking forward to. The flags are up all over the county and the 'Black Friday' is a great idea to get the excitement going around the county. Hopefully a large Sligo crowd will travel. And in fairness the u20s have had large crowds following them this year so I've no doubt there will be a huge crowd. Great week to be from Sligo. Sligeach Abú!!! Disappointing end to a great run for these lads. Kildare fully deserved their win but not by 8. Tiredness and injuries really took its effect on the lads today. Was fantastic to see such a Sligo crowd travel for the game too. I have to say I feel sorry for the keeper. Those two kickouts in a row costing 1-01, after Sligo had closed the gap to 2. You could see from the camera behind the goal that he had no options. I was shouting for him to go long. I thought he would for sure after the mistake for the 1st one. Just ran out of gas at the end as the injury count took its toll. That's also a super Kildare team. To beat Roscommon, Mayo, Galway& Kerry in any competition is a huge achievement in itself. I'm not even sure if Kildare could have managed that. Injuries were the difference today. I've always said that there is too much emphasis/pressure on goalkeepers in today's game and it comes from this insatiable obsession with statistics and keeping possession.. Outfield players make mistakes all the time which don't necessarily seem costly but a keeper makes one and it is deemned costly. Every one of those Sligo players should be proud of their achievements.. Who'd have ever thought that they would be contesting an All Ireland final. Well done to yee all and mgmt team. Well done to the U20 team and management for what they have done for Sligo this year. To be within a couple of points with a few minutes to go without Mulligan, Walsh, Chambers, Henry, Flynn & Donlon on the pitch says it all about this group. Kildare had to lose one to win one, so hopefully we follow suit. I would be surprised if O'Boyle and Dylan Walsh are not brought into the senior panel immediately. Mulligan would be in that bracket too only for his injury. As regards to our club scene, it feels like it is taking a back-stage position despite the Spring League which is not treated seriously. Two months of real league football followed by championship is a really short window of club games. There is no silver bullet though with this split season but we better watch this space as a strong club scene is fundamental to county development. Yes I feel very sorry, but a goalies mistakes tend to more obvious, and sometimes costly. However, the Sligo full back line were poor in first half, constantly out fielded, leading to at least 3/4 points and very close to a goal. Disappointed to see posters from other counties coming on here to highlight the keepers mistake. He was under huge pressure all day as he had more kick outs yesterday than in any other game. Up to yesterday he had conceded 2 goals in 4 games. He was the second choice keeper with the U.17 team last year and worked very hard to make the No 1 jersey his own this year. I'm not even sure if he is in Leaving cert yet or not. Ethan Rafferty's made as big a blunder yesterday!!! On the game itself Kildare were the better team. Starting Henry didn't work as the injury is still not cleared up, his replacement Flynn also went off injured, as did Chambers and Donelon. All subs were used after 9 mins of the second half. The gap was down to 2 points and if we had fresh legs to come on it could have been an interesting last few minutes. With something like 11 of the starting team underage again next year we should be very strong again.
