Question: what is the opinion on Dublin GAA streaming games which are easily accessible for free on YouTube. Finance isn't a problem for them granted. Is there any figures on what Sligo gaa tv brings in for our county board and would it be worth sacrificing to make games more accessible to our younger followers.YouTube is a huge platform now and if games were readily available, kids could be watching. Maybe even putting it up a couple of days after it's streamed to watch. Or maybe doing a highlights package for YouTube. Could you sacrifice the streaming fee with a hope of getting more sponsors for ads at half time, with a hope of a bigger audience for these ads. Its games promotion at the end of the day. "From a streaming perspective, unfortunately it was disappointing this year we just about broke even. The cost of providing this service has risen but we're also seeing a drop in the numbers. Streaming is a great opportunity to market and promote our games and reach the diaspora and we will continue to do it but we have to re-evalute for next year can optimise revenue. "The reach of the games, 24 countries, most of them are small audience but 87% of the people who actually watched the games are from Ireland which is great. When you look at Canada, UK, US, Australia where most of our diaspora would be so we will continue to provide this service. It's one of the main benefits of the covid for us but we have to try and make sure we can generate more income from it." This is from last year's financial report, I can't see any re-evaluation they done or any thing that they have done differently to generate more income. My opinion is that we need kids going to games, not to be sitting at home watching youtube. They would probably only watch 5 minutes of the game and be fed up and have switched it off muscles (Sligo) - Posts: 460 - 27/08/2024 17:40:58 2567191 Link 0 |
I like your sentiment of growing the game breakingball but I don't think too many kids would be watching Sligogaa club games on streaming. Most of the kids interested would probably go to the games with family. Sligonian (Sligo) - Posts: 1718 - 27/08/2024 17:47:26 2567193 Link 0 |
To be honest I couldn't see it working. Sligo Gaa don't have enough appeal for people to tune in to view it. There's also the cost of streaming the game from different venues. Some have good facilities, good wifi, good viewing area where you can set up safety while other venues are not up to standard. The day of climbing ladders and recording stuff from the top of a trailer are over. Also from now until next May all young lads and not so young lads have fantasy football competitions in line with the Premiership. That totally engrosses them for the entire weekend. Throw in televised rugby and a championship match in Sligo would be a long way down the pecking order. What would work would be a fantasy championship league involving the senior and intermediate teams. Some one with a lot of spare time could trash that out. That might generate a bit of interest. I wouldn't include junior teams ))

If you look at the fixtures previously streamed on Sligo GAA's YouTube there's actually decent viewing figures. I'd love to know how many bought the stream the weekend. Would you take away from attendances by streaming them free on YouTube, probably. Could you do a highlights package and see what traction that gets in terms of promotion, maybe. Drumcliffe V Shamrock Gaels in 2020 has over 4k views, probably a little misleading due to Covid but I'd certainly doubt 10% of that figure bought the stream last weekend. Kids need to be going to games I agree wholeheartedly…but no harm having something a click away for them to look at either. Just a thought! Mike Solan is going to Longford. I assume that means that his tenure with Tourlestrane will finish at the conclusion of the championship whenever that will be eoinog (Sligo) - Posts: 1957 - 27/08/2024 23:03:26 2567243 Link 0 |
Prediction game for the 10 games for round 3 on Weekend 7th/8th of September (and last two rounds). Point for correct result and bonus point for score margin. johncreilly (Sligo) - Posts: 107 - 28/08/2024 08:28:02 2567267 Link 0 |
Sources in Tourlestrane have advised Mike Solan will be stepping down with immediate effect and is to be replaced by another Ballaghaderreen native Andy Moran.

I was at 4 games over the first two weekends of action. The crowds were disappointing at each one. At one intermediate game, there was definitely not 80 people. Clubs should be heavily encouraging their underage to attend.

I would be more in favour if throwing Mike into the Moy. Why would Andy get involved at this late stage. He wouldn't even know some players names. Loads of good ex Tourlestrane players that could galvanize the squad at this stage and push on. Henry , would be the obvious choice but there are loads more in the club.

I've heard that as well, supposedly Morans name is in for Sligo job along with that

Thats a surprise and disappointing but I guess thats the risk you take when appointing a high profile manager

Interesting appointment for Longford, Solan clearly has something. I wonder will O Hara go in as part of the backroom team, maybe even Sloyan again. Pity for Tourlestrane if its with immediate effect. Sligonian (Sligo) - Posts: 1718 - 28/08/2024 17:04:09 2567414 Link 0 |
To be fair it was an absolutely awful weekend weather wise. And games were moved all over the shop on both Saturday and Sunday. Suddenly a nice afternoon drive becomes an hour or so over to West Sligo and you have some people that just won't travel that far in that weather. Also fixing games for 5pm on a Sunday evening is beyond idiotic. xwave8000 (Sligo) - Posts: 20 - 29/08/2024 08:28:05 2567473 Link 0 |
Was in Cloonacool and Tour on Sat and in Collooney and Tubber on Sunday.

Has it been confirmed that it's with immediate effect? Where is this information coming from?

There appears to be no truth in the story that Mike Solan has left with immediate affect. Just a few people getting excited and getting inside information that turns out to be incorrect. Big blow for Tourlestrane though. They had put in a savage performance having gotten 2 consecutive bad beatings and now they have a manager who doesn't want to be there anymore.
