If there's ever a final between Bun and Multy they will have to fight for the ESB poles for the flags .

Thanks. Good luck to them. Im sure no easy game left. Would I be right in saying O Loughlin Gaels are Kilkenny Senior champions and Clonbullogue are Offaly Intermediate champions?

Both Intermediate winners in their own counties. Offaly has Senior and Senior B so Intermediate is the 3rd grade I guess.

Kilcullen will be tough. Kildare junior championship very high standard.

I watched the game on Iarmhí tv. Highlights how poor westmeath club football is when CFCW won westmeath at a canter without being tested and kilcullen swept them aside with great ease

How can an opinion on the state of westmeath club football be based on a Leinster Junior match? Mind boggling? Have Westmeath clubs not performed admirably in Leinster club championship in recent years? Loman's, Garrycastle, Moate, St Mary's have all done really well in Leinster. At club level we're definitely superior to Longford, Offaly, Wicklow, Carlow, Wexford and Louth and certainly on an equal level with Meath, Kildare and Laois. There are results to back this assertion up. Anyone attending club matches in Offaly and Westmeath would be certain that our standard at senior level is higher.

Not so sure about Westmeath club football stronger than Offaly. Tullamore, Rhode, Ferbane all at least on par with top Senior clubs in Westmeath. Not to mention that Clara and Clonbullogue will likely do an Intermediate/Junior Leinster double..

Tubberclair, Rosemount and Athlone have all played in Leinster intermediate finals recently.

Intermediate/Junior is not any way to gauge it. There are fewer senior teams in Offaly. Clara won the "Senior B" rather than Intermediate , didn't they? If the Dublin Senior B champions (Cuala) were in Leinster they would win it at a canter.

Fair point. When Offaly introduced a Senior B Championship it reduced the Senior A Championship to 8 teams. That seems about right. Senior B and Intermediate then competed in the Intermediate and Junior club respectively, and were the more competitive for it. Westmeath, I think have 12 Senior teams? But probably half of those are out of their depth I'd say. The point remains however, Offaly top clubs can compete with anyone in Leinster, save for Dublin maybe.

It's simply not true to say that half of them are out of their depth. Half of them may have no realistic chance of actually winning the championship, but there is almost nothing between the teams from 4th to 12th. Caulry were very close to beating Lomans in the quarter final last year, for example. It's a well balanced championship and does not need tweaking. Nobody here cares what Offaly are at with their championships. If 8 teams suits them, then fine. Good luck to them.
Also, "Senior B" is just Intermediate. We have the same nonsense here with our hurling championship. If you're not in a position to compete for the Senior championship, then it's not Senior you're playing!

Wmeath system probably gives an average club a better chance of an intermediate or junior cship. Good discussion though.
