Wicklow Perspective - Back from Carlow. Very poor performance. Bar the good start. 1-2 to 0-0 up early on. Carlow played with a very direct attacking style. Wicklow recycled and meandered and tediously moved slowly. It was painful to watch. I found myself enjoying Carlow's incisive movement simply because it was so much better to watch! Jackson scored 0-6 of our 1-7 in the 1st half. In the second half we could have been beaten by 10. We barely won a contested kickout. We were so lucky Carlow despite kicking great points kicked so many wides. And yet we almost undeservedly drew the game. Podge O'Toole got a goal from close range with about 10 minutes to go. Then with the last kick of the game, it appeared Wicklow had scored a 3rd goal. It was hard to tell if this was the right call. Either way we deservedly lost. Our slow insipid build up needs to end if we are to improve, it's ineffective and incredibly predictable and I'd imagine quite easy to defend against. Carlow won by 3 but should have won by 8 or 9 points. Far the better team. I'd be worried if I was from Wicklow as Jackson scored 6 points in the first half & kept them in the game. They were trying everything to bring him into general play. If your keeper is your top scorer you are in serious trouble. As always with Carlow we almost let them equaliser with the last play but thank god the whistle had gone. I though Ruth was brilliant in Midfield & I had worries about him coming back into the panel after 2 years away & his age. When you think we didn't use Foley, Walker, John Murphy, Clarke, Phiiri & Amond & Cho Cho only came on in 2nd half we have an unbelievably strong panel. Not getting carried away but fingers crossed. Was the goal not disallowed for square ball? That's what everyone around me thought. Time up didn't make sense. The ref said one last play. The goal resulted from that. It had to have been square ball.

Ruth coming back in has been the biggest change. We lost that little bit in midfield when he came off and struggled a bit more with their kick outs. Be really helped pin them in while we turned over a lot of their kick outs. Put a lot wide and honestly think when the bad wides go over we are going to steam roll a a team soon. So impressive to watch. CarlowJuniorB (Clare) - Posts: 90 - 01/02/2026 11:35:04 2654273 Link 0 |
