Bygone days. It's really sad that it's hard to even come up with one nowadays.

Big weekend this weekend. Who does everyone have, I think weather could play a part in the games and make them closer but here goes more4me (Carlow) - Posts: 119 - 02/10/2025 07:56:09 2638214 Link 0 |

Will the junior matches still go ahead tomorrow with the weather? It's to be brutal.

Some farce in the county grounds tonight ACarlowGael (Carlow) - Posts: 13 - 02/10/2025 22:00:34 2638307 Link 0 |
Rathvilly by any amount Rathvilly extremely well drilled and super fit seasoned for any opposition in carlow and have the right markers to completely nulify b town - rathvilly havent really shown their hand and could be slightly undercooked, i still expect them to win but a performance is huge - they have used 25 or more players in this championship which in my eyes isnt a great idea - could this be a problem. B town drop the heads completely when they go behind an exception against tinryland but to be fair look where tinryland are at, they have too many heavy unfit players which results in them carrying alot of passengers I do think B town have great potential in players if they got them a bit fitter and got their house in order slightly more but until then they wont be winning a championship. Great when their gander is up as shown against MLR but rathvilly will be too strong. Pal vs OL hard to call I think pal have a better team and are more well rounded but OL have Mikey B who is just electric. Have mentioned before how OL always just missing one or two players to get over the line but now with lads coming into their prime a few young lads stepping up and 3 due to retire in the next year if OL are ever going to do it surely this year or next has to be it. Pal super fit and well coached but like many of said havent been tested enough - they will be this weekend, will they have the bottle? I am sure pal want redemption for a championship they should have won last year which fuels a fire. Flip of a coin, pal by 2 Inter hard one too call Tullow inconsistent and a bit flakey but probably the better team grange very much what you see is what you get - on paper you would say tullow but these derbys dont account for that grange have some dogged determined players who just wont roll over and for that reason I will go - Grange by 1 Ballon coming really strong show no reasons as to why they would lose this one. KC a good honest team and likewise with Ballon similar to OL in the senior they give it their absolute all and are selfless in their style of play but I just feel Ballon are a better version of this, unchartered territory for sure but again just think they are too good this year to lose - Ballon by 5 Junior A Going for an upset here with Rathvilly to win they were very good against a very good pal team. Alot of young guys and also guys with senior experience - a nice blend havent seen much of Leighlin this year but every other year they have left me wanting more only can go off rathvilly really but going to go - Rathvilly by 4 Weather is huge here indeed, dry day and FC would win well I would think but conditions are a huge leveller, extremely hard one to call nonethleless actually am stumped by this one could geneuinely be a hammering for either team, a draw etc etc - Kilbrirde by 1? Farce is right. Martins and Eire Og forced to play in the terrible conditions. Draw after full time. Then made play extra time in even worse conditions. Felt terrible for both sets of chaps who were out on their feet. Then as the stand has filled up for the second match and everyone has paid in, that match is conveniently called off for "health and safety". The 1st minor semi final between St Martins and Eire Og is played and finishes in a draw. It's announced that extra time will be played and penalties in the event of a draw at the end of extra time. During extra time it's then changed to say that the game will be replayed if a draw at the end of extra time. How this can be changed during the middle of a game is mind boggling. Meanwhile at the start of extra time, it's announced that the Pal v Btown game will not go ahead on "health and safety grounds". Yet it was fine to finish out the first game. The majority there felt all they were worried about was cutting up the pitch. There was no sign that the pitch was unplayable, no surface water or splashes of water. There was a so called inspection of the pitch which took place at the goal at the scoreboard end and didn't involve a football being bounced or kicked. Either both games should have been pulled yesterday afternoon or both should have been played. Not fair on the two sets of players who were after warming up in poor conditions on the outside pitch, made worse by the first semi final going to extra time. God only knows when the game will be refixed for now. ACarlowGael (Carlow) - Posts: 13 - 03/10/2025 10:03:53 2638331 Link 0 |
Weather was atrocious with puddles forming on pitch, especially on dressing room end. Ref looked at pitch when first game was heading into second half of extra time and called the next game off. Reasons being I assume because pitch was obviously going to get worse over the next hour and player safety could be an issue. Also maybe had an eye on pitch also as many big games on this weekend and did not want it cut up and destroyed. Deffo not a "farce" as you call it. Disappointing for all but fair call imo. Salt Murphy was ref for second game and he made the call based on second game. Lar Murphy was ref for first and he was happy for that game to go ahead and felt pitch was OK. It was actually a great game in the circumstances and eire og maybe left it behind although they did get 2 very soft goals.

Any word on the Senior relegation final between Eire Og & Tinryland....can't believe I'm writing the words Eire Og for a relegation final but that's where they are. Tinryland have been poor for last 2 years so no surprises there. I've heard rumours that Tinryland have got legal advice & won't be playing the relegation final but as I said only rumours & have heard nothing concrete. I think if the game goes ahead Eire Og will win comfortably. Tinryland being relegatled might shake them up & they would be hot favourites to come straight back up. Another story doing the rounds is that the County Board are looking to expand the senior championship to 10 teams going forward. Might be a way to save either Eire Og or Tinryland from relagation?? carlo (Carlow) - Posts: 289 - 03/10/2025 11:13:12 2638340 Link 0 |
Matches tonight have been postponed. Not surprised given how rough it is now.

Conveniently called off ???, who exactly was is convenient for ?, certainly not the Btown or Pal chaps who were fully warmed up, wound up and ready to go, not for their mentors, not for all the stand who had paid in to see the game, not for the county board who now have the headache to find a suitable refixture. Imo it was convenient for nobody. I don't think there is a smoking gun or conspiracy theory here. It was the weather which was dreafull and getting worse by the minute and the ref made the call on his opinion the second match would be unsafe.

Any new playing talent catch the eye over the various championships this season so far or is it a case of as you were? Bainisteoir (National) - Posts: 587 - 04/10/2025 16:05:56 2638433 Link 0 |
Hard to say there are any. Of players who have never played senior county football I'd say Jack McCullagh and Chris Nolan are two to stand out as nailed on starters for the county football team but that's not going to happen in fairness with both being hurlers. Another is Seanie Bambrick I can't remember if he's played senior county football before but if he's available for county next year he'll surely be in. I been impressed with the OL full back as well but his name escapes me atm.

I heard there are talks going on there. Mccullagh would be a big addition

Why would players want to leave a Division 1B hurling team to play for a Division 4 football team?
CARPS (Carlow) - Posts: 932 - 05/10/2025 12:40:16 2638513 Link 0 |
Have to assume the ceiling is higher currently for the footballers if all goes well especially if some lads just prefer football which could be the case. Hurlers did struggle in the back end of last year but I'd agree with you asking why they would bother.
