We got abuse from a load of Donegal fans on the hill in 2012. Same when Tyrone beat us a few years ago. Young fools juiced up on beer. I'd never hold it against the majority of fans though. Every county has clowns.

Yeah you could be right, might come too soon for him. Himself and Langan will form a formidable duo whenever they're fully fit. I wouldn't rule it out though. Jim likes to pull a rabbit from the hat on occasion. I just remeber when we played them last year up in Derry, McGee lorded it, probably his best game in a Donegal jersey. I think the intensity in the match went up and down, I'd have loved to have seen both teams go hell for leather because it was a very entertaining match as it was. But it didn't have the feel of do-or-die, even in the last few minutes when Mayo sealed the win really. O'Baoill's penalty was an indicator of that. There's no way he meant to miss it (sure it was on target). But was he 100% tuned in? There was also the fact you could tell that Doherty was the preferred taker but he had been hurt in the foul for the penalty. Did that impact O'Baoill at all mentally? It was a poor strike for a fella you would trust to hit the ball well. But like you say, there is no way he intended to miss or to try and lose the match. There was plenty of time left even with that penalty I'd have bet good money on Mayo going up and coming back anyway. Sure Hughie rattled the bar not long after that. That strike wasn't that of a player trying to lose the game. CCFabu (Donegal) - Posts: 141 - 25/03/2025 09:46:15 2598489 Link 1 |
On the match itself, I thought we had a few extra gears if we needed (and I think the same could probably be said of Mayo to be fair). But I was very impressed with a few players and how they showed up, one I want to mention is Eoin McHugh as I thought he really struggled against Galway (in terrible conditions), but on Sunday there I thought he played very well, got on a lot of ball, showed well and a lovely finish for the goal as well. Hughie was the top man at the crossbar challenge, wouldn't rule out he meant it!! Hope Jason is back for Derry but we should have enough to beat them even without him in Ballybofey, especially with Langan back in centre field. I think Murphy starts against Derry, I can see him bagging a few goals that day if he stays in round the goals. Pity the league final clashed with the start of Ulster, we could have went for it but at the end of the day nobody cares who wins the league, it's a pity because it should be a more valued competition. Good point in eoin mchugh. The finish for the goal was very good and it's something that Donegal struggle with. A calm composed side foot into the corner. Last year against Galway they had no fresh legs that could come on and kick a point or a goal and he did that on Sunday. Hughie doesn't get any rest! They have kept playing him and hid form has progressed a lot over the league.

Don't be surprised with Hugh. He was always a good honest player. Totally honest, reliable and a great leader. So delighted he's getting a run of games.

Is there an U20 team named for tonight? Redzer99 (Waterford) - Posts: 92 - 26/03/2025 09:48:35 2598634 Link 0 |
Yeah Hughie is a big-hearted lad who certainly has given his all when it comes to representing Donegal. Plenty of people have written him off over the years but he just keeps on trucking. His exeperience could be vital in the months ahead.

Not that I'm aware. Dont think there was one named last week either? Pretty poor. Our PRO should address this as supporters love to see the teams and squads announced.

The u20s squad was put up on various social media platforms about 2 weeks ago, team was named last week for the game, same as this week also. Our PRO is well on top of her game, best we've had in the position in a long time.

The u20 team was announced on the same media platforms that all other Donegal County teams are announced on. PRO is doing a fine job.

Facile win for the u20s tonight, should get a better challenge against a rested Down on Saturday. Tyrone's u20s look like they'll be hard stopped this year, demolished Down and put 6-26 on Fermanagh although we do have them at home. It looks like we have a tidy panel this year so hopefully there's an Ulster final and more for this group. NPadraigAbu (Donegal) - Posts: 99 - 26/03/2025 22:14:41 2598791 Link 0 |
Does anyone out there know what the position is regarding season club ticket holders as the all county leagues are starting this weekend. boholabob (Mayo) - Posts: 6 - 27/03/2025 03:38:33 2598809 Link 0 |
Ulster Council need to look at this imbalance in the U20 Ulster Championship, Donegal 3-23 v 0-02 Antrim Tyrone 6-26 v 0-06 Fermanagh These are clearly not competitive games, there is a massive gulf there and I would say a Donegal U20 A vs Donegal U20 B games would be more competitive. Those kind of scorelines do nothing for young players from Antrim or Fermanagh, nor for the young players from Donegal or Tyrone. Ulster GAA need to review and try to understand why there is such a gap. Commodore (Donegal) - Posts: 1326 - 27/03/2025 09:55:51 2598838 Link 0 |
Leave the Pro alone she doing best job ever. County board are awaiting the season tickets and hoping to have by Friday. Same crack every year, last minute.com. AudiMan (Donegal) - Posts: 680 - 27/03/2025 10:02:37 2598842 Link 2 |
Agreed. The social media output and website have improved massively since the current PRO has been in situ. It's mad that the Ulster Championship is upon us again. Looking foward to the Derry match and hopefully we can get another big day out in Clones if all goes well for the lads in the weeks ahead. You'd imagine a few of those outside the 26 will see some action for their clubs this weekend?
