Not sure if they do it this way, but if Armagh cant draw 2 counties (Derry or Galway), they should be drawn out first so that if they do draw derry or galway, those balls go back in until ross or Down are drawn out to play them.

Then Dublin (who cant draw Ross), should be paired next.
Then Kerry (who cant draw louth) should be paired next.
The last team out would be us, left with the remaining team as we are free to be paired with any team on the other side of the draw.

We have had a good 2 weeks rest now, so bring on any team.

Armagh cannot get Derry or Galway so they've best route
Dublin and Kerry cannot draw Louth
Dublin also cannot draw Rossies so they will play either Derry or Galway. Either will be plum tie of the round.

Ideal draw
Armagh v Roscommon
Dublin v Derry
Kerry v Galway
Donegal v Louth

Worst draw imo

Armagh v Louth
Kerry v Roscommon
(If these two ties are drawn out of hat, it means we have Derry or Galway). I think I fear Derry more right now but either will be tough. Roll on tomorrow morning."
I'm gonna get it hard to sleep tonight.

We can't discount anyone, but if we want to go the whole way we are going to have to beat the best teams.

I'd take Louth, Roscommon, Derry and Galway in that order.

Well you will not sleep great if you think that you will have to win four matches to win the All Ireland while just three should do.

After the matches this weekend, every team should be treated with the respect they deserve. I know Jim will.

Tomorrow cannot come quick enough so we can learn who gets who. Personally I rather not get Derry number one mainly because we've already seen Tyrone twice and then it would be Derry the same. Galway have some injury worries but there is no doubting the quality they have. That leaves Roscommon and Louth. Neither will be easy but you'd be happy enough with either especially having a week's rest. I'd say the Rossies wouldn't mind a crack at ourselves either and they'll have no fear. All to play for. Roll on the morning.

I hope we get Roscommon or Louth, I'd prefer not to see another Ulster team and that is no disrespect to Derry. Personally, I think Galway are the most dangerous of the 4 we could get and are due a big game, but for a poor 5 or 6 minute spell they could have best Armagh by 6 or 7 points last week.

On a slight tangent many malign our apparent lack of good underage sides. We've actually been there or thereabouts without winning a title. However the standard in Ulster right now is ridiculous. Tyrone sauntered to an AI at under 20 after needing penalties to beat Derry who just about beat Donegal by one somewhat controversially. At minor the AI final is a repeat of the Ulster final. Down won the C championship and Cavan were in the B final with only Kildare stopping the complete Ulster dominance. We'll be strong again at under 20 next but we won't be the only ones.

It's a good point, because I recently posted after looking at the Men's Senior football teams stats within Ulster Championship over the last 64 years, with focus on teams who reached Ulster finals (Match win rates within Ulster), as I viewed this as an indicator of strength.

Donegal (19 Ulster finals) and Tyrone (12 Ulster finals) have emerged as the two most consistently successful within Ulster over the last 30-34 years in terms of reaching Ulster finals, followed by Armagh (9 Ulster finals), Derry (8 Ulster finals) and Monaghan (6 Ulster finals). Prior to this Ulster football was dominated by Down (17 Ulster finals) and Cavan (10 Ulster finals) in the previous 30 years (1960 - 1989).

I still need to run the Minor and U20 stats for the same 64 year time frame to see if that tells me anything, but its clear that even with only limited underage success, Donegal seem to consistently be able to produce strong senior starting 15's that can rival or go toe to toe with most teams.

We have to be happy with that draw.
It was a poor show by Lough yesterday but in general they have some decent forwards plus are well set up.
Note we cannot meet Armagh if we both win - Up da Rossies!!
I expect one "upset" in the Dublin and Kerry ties. Possibly Derry which would be some turnaround.

Good draw considering the possibilities.
Ger Brennan has done a great job there. The **** could've fallen out of the progress they'd been making in recent times after Mickey Harte upped sticks. But they've improved a lot under Brennan.

You'd have to fancy our chances though given the break we've had & hopefully Jason McGee will be fit. A senior final appearance is within our grasp. Amazing really when you consider where we've come from.

This is brilliant research you are doing, it will be interesting to see how the underage success compares with senior level strength in the subsequent years. I think there was something a few years back about underage success having no bearing on senior but I can't remember the source of that.

Is the 2016 Ulster minor title the last competition we have won at underage? Hopefully our academy can get back running properly again, losing Karl Lacey was a debacle. It is probably more important to develop all round players at underage rather than focusing on winning.

Yeah it's unreal. We will have to play well to win, Louth pushed Dublin hard in a Leinster final and they beat Cork which we didn't do. So we will have to earn a semi final appearance. But I believe Jim will have us mad intent next weekend and we will do it. As you say, very exciting times. Dublin and Kerry will tougher draws for a change.

I think Donegal will be all too aware of the threat Louth pose following that Division 2 game in Ballyshannon, Louth were a difficult team to shake and possibly deserved something out of that game. Since then they have made life difficult for a number of other decent sides, including Dublin in Croke Park.

2017 u21s. And what a team that was when ye see how many still involved in our senior team.

The only thing help is momentum gained and kerry not tested but don't think k will affect kerry that much .

If both play well I still have kerry edging it .

We will see

They want tough draws especially kerry this myth that east always help nonsense. Yes they egt easy provincial doesn't always help and usually they still best team anyway no matter.

I can see your point though tough draws could help though at the same time.
Group wise kerry hadn't easy last year or all draw but can see where you are coming opportunity opens up for Donegal armagh etc

How could I have forgotten that. I remember we won the Ulster final on a Monday night against Derry in Armagh, then had to play Dublin 5 days later in All Ireland semi-final in Cavan. the players were absolutely out on their feet. If I remember correctly Con O'Callaghan got black carded early in that game but we were out of gas.

Here's my prediction for times next week:

Sat 29th

4.45pm - Armagh v Roscommon
7pm - Dublin v Galway

Sun 30th

1.45mp - Kerry v Derry
4pm - Donegal v Louth

Louth played on Sunday and Derry had a late night on Saturday evening

Kerry and Derry fans collectively have further to travel so should be on earlier

Louth fans should come in good numbers too (especially as Dundalk and Drogheda struggling in LOI)

4pm Sunday is the prime tv slot. There's no way they're putting Donegal V Louth in that slot.
