Great day out on Sunday.

In the Ramelton notes this week they congratulated "local man" Ciaran Moore. What's the connection there? They also mentioned Jeaic.

I had a lad tell me 3rd hand a few days ago from one of the '92 winners that he'll be featuring during championship. I personally don't believe it and if he was, I don't think it would get out of the camp that easy. If he's training with them, it could be mindgames from Jim.

Heard that too but it's hard to see him coming back, thought it was an April 1st story, be some craic if he runs out at Celtic park though!

Heard Armagh offering excuses for their defeat last Sunday.
Sure we were without 5 almost guaranteed starters in Eoghan Ban, McHugh, McBrearty, McCole and arguably Conor O'Donnell.

Although the game itself was ponderous for long spells it was encouraging to see our lads dig out the win when it appeared that Armagh were going to steal it. I was surprised at how Armagh didn't bombard us with early direct ball. Maybe keeping that weapon in reserve for later in the summer?

Anyway, onwards to Derry. It'll be a huge task but we are certainly not without hope. If we get a few of the key men mentioned above back we can give them their fill of it.

Now the 8 ft fence in Convoy makes sense! They must be driving him from Glenswilly in a blacked out jeep too...

Highly unlikely that all injuries will be cleared up by Derry game and even those that do won't exactly be match sharp.

Not a good situation we find ourselves in, unfortunately.

McGeeney always has the sob story at the ready, he has plenty practice at it though when you look back at his time in management. They badly wanted to win that cup and have Jarlath handing it over to them.
I think I can rem them coming out with a similar sob story a few years ago, can't rem exactly when.

Hi AudiMan: Must be serious coin in Derry GAA circles these days? Mickey Harte, and Rory Gallagher before him would not have come cheap. Plus heading away on a week long holiday at this time of year? Usually those kinds of trips are done in the off season to reward a successful campaign.

I'd say there's no shortage of coin in Derry at the minute. But I don't think he was ever in it for the money. I'd say he'd walk to Derry to prove his doubters wrong. In his eye's he was retired by Tyrone, and they thought he would go gently. He's determined to prove them wrong.

Some of the soccer teams do that during the international break.Donegal did that in 2014 before the div 2 final against Monaghan.With the 3 week gap it probably is a good enough idea especially with the weather we are having this Spring.

Anyone notice the difference between the Division 1 and 2 speeches that Burns gave? He was full of commiseration for Armagh but did he even mention Donegal? Bit pathetic really.

I'd say he had his Armagh speech learnt off, and then had to cobble together a Donegal version.

Would agree with this. Was told by someone who might know a bit that he approached Derry for the job and not the other way around. He's done a fine job so far. Let's hope Jim can hatch a serious plan and things come good on the day. Fascinating affair in store. Haven't been as excited by a Donegal game in many a year to be honest. The kitchen sink will be thrown at Derry but clearly they're a really fine team. Could be fine margins.

Derry are a better team than any in Ulster during McGuinness' first stint. Can't see us within 6 points of them this month, and that's of no disrespect to the massive effort put in by the squad and management in Donegal. Conor Glass is lifting Sam this year or next.

Hmm I'm still yet to be 100% totally convinced. Like they're very close, and are a brilliant team no doubt about it. I'm not sure how the draw works this year, and maybe it's impossible to predict who'll likely play who at the semi final stage. But until Derry beat Kerry/Dublin in a white hot championship match in Croke Park they'll always be wondering. Beating Dublin in the league final was the best possible preparation they could get. But I just wonder have they poked the bear...Time will tell.

Then the longer it goes on without reaching the promised land the harder it gets. Just ask Mayo fans. The physical and mental effort it takes to keep going year on year must be very taxing. I know McGuinness mentioned it before about a 4 year cycle. If you can't win it within that period with the same core group of players it becomes very difficult. There are exceptions of course like Dublin and Kerry, who always seem to have a conveyor belt of quality young players to replenish things. But for counties like Derry and Donegal, it can be a case of striking when the iron is hot.

Anyway, lets see what happens in a few weeks. No matter the result, Jim has already improved things beyond recognition from last year. There is a buzz about, and the players seem to be totally buying into things. Derry may well beat us, but they'll work damn hard for it.
