Mark McHugh definitely can't be ignored. His role in the team in 2012 as a sweeper was vital. Eamonn McGee should have been an all star in 2012, he was very close to getting man of the match in the final. McCole has improved, but he's nowhere near the levels Eamonn McGee reached in 2011, 2012.

I want to give you the benefit of the doubt as no doubt we haven't seen the best of Hugh in nearly two years, but this feels disingenuous. McFadden played 60 in the Ulster win v Armagh in 2022 and was a stand-out performer. He came off on late in second half after helping the team build a 6-point lead. He picked up a concussion in the semi-final v Cavan coming off after half-time, and three weeks later played in extra time in the final loss v Derry. He didn't feature in the heavy loss to Armagh later a few weeks later. Concussions are tricky and need to be carefully managed. I can only guess he wasn't cleared to play more than x amount of minutes, and wasn't risked by Bonner. One way or another, he was missed in that defeat to Armagh as Jason Duffy and Jarlath Óg roasted us in the middle. SurelyToGod (Donegal) - Posts: 443 - 23/02/2024 13:24:59 2527709 Link 1 |
We all know how things panned out, and there's no point here in rehashing old arguments. But pound for pound, Kevin Cassidy was surely one of the best players in that first McGuinness era. A two time All-Star and a colossus in the green and gold when in his prime.

Agree with the Armagh game. He was coming back from injury then and the same with the Derry game in ET when he came on and was badly exposed. So important to keep that in mind but I do agree midfield cannot be the place we play him. I see Jim has him in full forward already at spells. I think in here he could be effective. He set up Paddy's point near the end.

No doubting Cassidy's footballing ability but he didn't toe the line with Jim's rules and that ultimately cost him a Celtic Cross in the end.

Maybe Jim has mellowed in his old age .. because the 2 players who broke rules recently are still in the panel. Or maybe we don't have enough players in their position to replace them...

Two midfielders?

Depends what they did, if they did anything. Cassidy was the only one who went and didn't come back. Hanlon was dropped and then got back in I recall. So wouldn't think he's mellowing at all but more of a case by case situation.

Greenfan no need to talk about individual mistakes of indiscipline in the camp, management will deal with that I'm sure every county has issues but we seem always willing to blurt about our own. Tyrion (Donegal) - Posts: 162 - 24/02/2024 11:30:43 2527827 Link 4 |
Ready to roll.Looks like a good day.Despite all the problems we had last year the game was tight enough. The ref gave some very bad decisions against us if you recall enabling Armagh to win by 3 points. gunman (Donegal) - Posts: 1126 - 25/02/2024 09:45:13 2527962 Link 0 |
Just back from armagh, trying to make sense of the game, could have been well home had we taken 1 or 2 of the goal opportunities we had, was delighted we hot out with a point in the end, armagh had all their big guns on by the end. Great fight from the lads, alot of poor turnovers and misplaced passes from us, the league is the place for them, hopefully thuis will be rectified come championship. Ryan mchugh very good again, mcgonigle too. Paddy good in first half less effective in second. Shane O donnel made a difference in second half too. totalrecall (Leitrim) - Posts: 1001 - 25/02/2024 18:53:31 2528082 Link 0 |

Shocking support for top of table clash. A few Donegal supporters in Stand but very dissappointing. If €20 keeps fans away, thats awful. Supporters that were in Armagh today should be first to get Tickets for Celtic Park......

Ridiculous time for a game 3pm not giving people time to digest their Sunday lunch. It also clashed with the Carabao Cup Final and the France v Italy Rugby game.Armagh people seem to have no interest in those big events at all. gunman (Donegal) - Posts: 1126 - 25/02/2024 23:38:21 2528156 Link 0 |
Yea you forgot to put down that Sunday doesn't suit the massive donegal support either. I forgot Saturday is not ideal either we're all working and can't get off.. the Armagh support were fantastic yesterday a proper gaa county, bit like mayo no success but always follow there team.
