People need to move on.

Talk to any one that we're on the development squads and they'll tell how big a loss he is. I know you have to move on but we can't afford to lose the likes of Karl lacey especially outside the county. When kilcoo want him to stay on it shows how highly he's thought of.. big big loss

No issue with the fence or blinds being pulled down. I don't imagine you can walk into the Tyrone training field for example as easy as you can when it comes to Donegal. We should be supporting this and not making sly remarks for a few likes. I hear the team are going abroad next week at some point on the team holiday. Talk of Dubai and Portugal. ? Agreed. One of our best & smartest ever not being involved is a crying shame. It would be great if some dialogue happened behind the scenes that would encourage Karl to come back. Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 9541 - 28/11/2023 16:58:31 2514907 Link 1 |
Noone is saying that privacy isn't required. It just seems an awful lot of money to be spending when other cheaper options could maybe have been considered. It looks as though the intention is for funds to be raised by individuals and businesses in London who have a strong connection. I know others have mentioned this before, but we should be doing this far more often - looking to the Donegal diaspora. Send recently required Donegal GAA greats to the likes of London and New York/Boston, have a dinner dance and Q&A session etc as part of a fund raising initiative. But look, if Jim can get us back competing at the top, noone will be complaining I suppose. Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 9541 - 29/11/2023 09:54:44 2514963 Link 0 |
Agreed, Donegal has been way behind some other counties in terms of tapping into the good will of the diaspora in the UK and US in particular. I recall Kerry raising around a million from the US a few years back, they flew some Kerry greats over to attend fund raising events, no reason why we couldn't have some players from the 92 & 2012 winning teams over doing the same. There's plenty of successful people in London, New York, Boston & Philadelphia with Donegal connections that if asked might get on board. Hopefully with McGuinness back it will be a bit easier to attract that outside injection of funds. BeardedBorderGael (Donegal) - Posts: 49 - 29/11/2023 11:13:12 2514970 Link 0 |
I think the year Kerry lifted the million, they had a special passenger for the trip! Makes it a little easier. SignTheContract (Donegal) - Posts: 197 - 29/11/2023 13:38:37 2514983 Link 3 |
True having Sam Maguire for the trip would have made the fundraising a bit easier but it's the presence of the old All-Ireland winners to give the speeches, pose for the photos and shake the hands that would have played the lion's share in bringing in the funds.

Cork and Meath in Ballybofey, Fermanagh in Letterkenny and Louth in Ballyshannon apparently for the league. Hope Ballyshannon is as good to us as it used to be. CianG04 (Donegal) - Posts: 1 - 29/11/2023 18:08:15 2515020 Link 0 |
The problem with some of the teams in the East of the county is that they are more interested in the off the ball stuff than playing actual football. A look at the league tables this year will shed a bit of light on who that is. It's up to clubs to discipline their own players not the county board. peiledoir20 (Donegal) - Posts: 1074 - 29/11/2023 20:13:31 2515028 Link 0 |
Seen a few days ago that Eamonn McGee is going to be coaching Buncrana. Surely that's him finished up with Gaoth Dobhair, won't be able to double time playing for a senior club and coaching an intermediate club NPadraigAbu (Donegal) - Posts: 86 - 30/11/2023 00:09:46 2515037 Link 0 |
Jez lad you must have a bad experience of playing down in the east of the county. It'll left a lasting effect. Maybe if your own club would show a bit of grit the world is your oyster.

In some of the east clubs its a dying breed of aul fellas doing the off the ball dirty stuff, most lads just want to play football. In other clubs its the young fellas coming up with no interest in playing football

Ballyshannon has always been a lucky hunting ground over the years; almost the mirror image of ODP. I see that we are due to play Kildare in Dr Cullen Park, Carlow. It's one of the only intercounty grounds that I haven't been to, I always thought that if we ever were to play there, that we'd be in a terrible state (Division 3 or 4). So, in the circumstances, and it being the furthest away game, let's hope a few make the trip, and make a night of it. SouthOfTheGap (Donegal) - Posts: 722 - 30/11/2023 16:30:22 2515113 Link 0 |
I wouldn't disagree with you but a couple of weeks ago it was a club from the western seaside that were getting a hard time on the forum about their rough play and indiscipline.

Hope the County board not a calamity next year. AudiMan (Donegal) - Posts: 676 - 30/11/2023 17:30:46 2515118 Link 0 |
You've obviously never played against them much if at all.

Strange Statement?

Would a calamity be a positive step up from what we just witnessed?
