Senior and Intermediate - 2 groups of 4. Top 3 qualify - 2 v 3 in Q/F's and top team through to semis.
Bottom team in both groups play off for relegation.

Junior - 1 group of 5 with top 4 into semis.

Possibly double rounded league games, definately in Div 3 with the 5 clubs. No second strings allowed to play in top 3 divisions.

Groupings of teams is just based on the standings so far this year.

Attempt to bring championships to 8 8 and 5 have been attempted before. Patently clear some clubs ambition is no more than reaching quarter finals . Senior was heading for 10 teams but was deferred dur to Covid . Everyone agrees there's too many in Senior chair, but all clubs also agree that they're to good to be relegated.

Yeah I just don't understand it myself.
We were guilty of that back in the noughties when ourselves and Cashel were relegated.
Our chairman thought we were too good for Intermediate and pushed for us to stay Senior.
And when we did Cashel also stayed Senior and the Intermediate team was also promoted.
I would think as a player would you not be happier playing at a level that your team is capable of.
Winning an Intermediate would be far better than getting hammered in Senior every year and just surviving because the the team that came up the previous year are weaker.
That would be my take on it.
Far too big of a jump coming from Intermediate the way things are set up at the minute.
There should be a bigger push by delegates to get it sorted and take their heads out of the clouds.

I think it's always been the way that there are only a handful of teams realistically capable of winning it he championship in any given year. I would agree that there are many clubs in senior grade that are not senior standard. But a change to the format could be good. No point in teams getting hammerings. A lot of clubs at senior who have a great history and might be too proud to admit that they're not quite fit for it at the moment.

I totally understand a team being proud of their history but its time to start getting realistic, it will drive younger players away turning up each year trying to survive at senior level with the only objective is to avoid getting a hammering!!
Take the Intermediate championship this year for an example, most teams realistically have a chance of at least reaching the final bar maybe Legan! but who ever does win inter this year will struggle to compete next year. I think what Killashee have done this year has really got everyone thinking what could lie ahead, I totally understand they have lost players but to not even field in the SENIOR club championship after winning Inter 2 years in row previous is making a mockery of Longford football.

The county board make more money off gate receipts with a larger amount of teams at senior level. more people will go to carrickedmond vs rathcline at senior than if it was intermediate. this is why the structure will never change. all down to money

I think thats why the county board arent pushed about change. Clubs could vote the change if they wanted it but to many are thinking they will be the ones next to be relegated im thinking the likes off clonguish carrickedmond rathcline granard all worried about going down so wont vote for whats needed

What are peoples predictions now for the rest of the senior games? Dromard have to be considered in the shake up even though Granard were already gone. They are moving along nicely and no-one will fancy meeting them. Connollys Drumlish and Ballymahon probably still looking the main ones for intermediate.

So what do ye think of Paddy Christie in as new football manager ? Dessie Sloyane of Sligo and Leitrim's Shane Glancy involved too.

I would concur that it's a great appointment... we'd do well to get a similar caliber man in Leitrim.

I suppose the question is what's the aim for Longford currently. Promotion from Division 3 ? The problem with that is that exclusion from the Tailteann cup, the one achievable trophy. So does a manager use the league to experiment and try to finish mid table or go all out for promotion. It's a flaw in the current setup for a lot of counties who know they have no business in the Sam Maguire race.

Anyone else find it Strange that James Glancy would leave his own county after 1 year to work with Paddy Christy in longford? I heard that both men are close personally but still

'Ros Andy' loves Roscommon so much that he identifies as a Mayo man. It must kill ye to have one of your own heralded as a Mayo legend lol

I know. Talking about other county's managers when they can't even get anyone remotely interested in their own.

Even though the group stages are not even over, the Senior Championship is for Mullinalaghta to lose. The only team that has a chance to catch them out would be Colmcille. I don't think they will as Mullinalaghta will have learned from the League Final. Dromard may go on a good run if the draw favours them but ultimately wont have enough. Slashers are still a good bit off the pace of the leading pack. Killoe aren't at the races at all and will be lucky to scrap through to the Q/F where they will bow out. Rathcline may get to a semi final as long as they beat Carrickedmond this weekend, it would be interesting to see them against either Mostrim or Slasher in the Q/F.

Final Standings Group 1
Mullinalaghta
Dromard
Slashers
Mostrim

Final Standings Group 2
Colmcille
Rathcline
Killoe
Abbeylara

Q/Finals (Winners)
Mull v Abbey (Mull)
Dromard v Killoe (Dromard)
Slashers v R/cline (Slashers)
Colm v Mostrim (Colmcille)

S/Finals
Not sure how the draw works out from here??
