Killoe got off to a flying start and when Clonguish lost Matthew Flynn it looked like it would be Killoe's day but credit to Clonguish they out fought Killoe in every aspect. Killoe had no response and looked out on their feet, they looked like the team playing 3 weeks in a row rather than Clonguish. They won't be going anywhere for a long time, good win for their juniors too. I would agree that The Downs will have far too much for Clonguish. I have watched a lot of Longford club games and the standard is poor. But it is always an entertaining championship.

This is bonus territory now for Clonguish as they finally have the monkey off their back, they can probably for the first time in this years championship go out with complete freedom to have a right cut at whoever is in front of them. It should be a right good game between both teams. I wouldn't entirely rule out Clonguish from a win in Leinster either

Congratulations to Clonguish on a resounding win yesterday. I predicted they would win the Leader Cup, the Senior Championship and the Minor Championship this year (and they will win the U21 too), but to be fair it was an easy prediction. This talk of dominance isn't going to happen at Senior level in Longford. Even the great Mullinalaghta team at the height of their powers as Leinster champions were unceremoniously dumped out by Colmcille the following year at the Quarter Final stage. And Colmcille themselves didn't even reach the final that year, let alone win it. Championship football is ruthless and unforgiving. People seem to have a short memory, because as recent as two weeks ago Clonguish were on the way out of the championship. 3 points down in injury against Dromard and a very lucky goal saved our year. backtoback2 (Longford) - Posts: 75 - 12/10/2026 15:40:14 2697033 Link 0 |

With no disrespect intended I can't see them within 10 points of The Downs. And I hope I'm wrong as a result would be huge for Longford football.

None taken at all, just think that with Loughlins comments about wanting to right the wrongs of their match against Tullamore last year theres far more expectancy on the Downs to produce a display and get over the first round hurdle, I think its a really good opportunity for Clonguish to fly under the radar and really put it up to them and possibly sneak a win

Agree completely this is a great opportunity for Clonguish. A big deal of course to win their first in a while but Corrigan won't allow the celebrations go past this week. Killoe will be hugely disappointed with their no-show in the final. I understand Clonguish are after winning 6 minors in a row ? That is sensational. Plus the Junior A this year. Listening to the clubber commentary it sounds a very young Clonguish team - average age early 20's ? The Downs more seasoned I suppose with 3 titles in 5 years. A good win for both Clonguish teams over the weekend. I'm sure the celebrations are probably still ongoing. Killoe well beaten and Ballymore I am sure are kicking themselves. Spinx (Longford) - Posts: 1605 - 13/10/2026 17:22:13 2697208 Link 0 |

I don't know what is in the water at Clonguish at the moment but they are dominating the ladies underage football as well, I'd be very confident it will translate to senior in the coming years and end Slashers dominance. A decent amount on the senior starting final team are only in secondary school and I think one of the backs is only 15! You have to give credit to the coaches working there every week with the lads and the girls. BallWatching (Longford) - Posts: 36 - 13/10/2026 23:34:21 2697238 Link 0 |

A huge win for Clonguish. I thought they might break through but not in the emphatic way they did it in the end. Killoe had no answer and were left chasing shadows. I did think Killoe's game plan of zonal marking played into Clonguish's hands a lot. But Clonguish stepped up after their nervous start and made a very good Killoe team look ordinary, weary and old. This Killoe team still have plenty of good days left in them so that made the manner of the win all the bigger. Well done Clonguish, a lot of good honest lads on that team, they deserve the celebrations this week and into the winter. They might do ok against the Downs, all the pressure is on the home side. Clonguish have to now live with the tag of favourites for the next many years, but they managed that comfortably at underage so it shouldn't weigh too heavily on them. Its up to the rest to catch them, which they will do now and them. Killoe, Dromard, Granard, they are going nowhere for a while. Its a county that seems impossible to completely dominate in every year. botheyesclosed (Longford) - Posts: 168 - 14/10/2026 09:32:58 2697247 Link 0 |
