Watched the Tyrone Donegal game on TG 4 last night- putrid football for most of the game. I believe Shane Ward was coaching Donegal- if that is what he offers up for young lads, (ie negative defensive boring play which ultimately didn't win them the game) Donegal can keep him.

That's pretty ominous for Galway football. Being the worst team in Connacht at that level

Interesting article in today's Leitrim observer by John Connolly about the above in Leitrim ,particularly in relation to the Leitrim Senior men's team.

He has a fair point when he says the Poacher bashers on social media have had a bad run the last few weeks, with Leitrim unexpected performance against Mayo .Add in U20 and minor successes and my God there is a danger of light appearing!!!!

As he points out failure to push on in the Tailteann Cup will have the gloom merchants in full flight again.

I"
Jesus let's jump the gun big time lads, we lost well to Mayo who were well off par, they musta been on a serious training block coming into the game, they were leggy, no interest in the game ans still kicked 20 scores, i think we kicked 7, There 2 pointersqhelped us big time but there to stay and will help the weaker teams. In regards the minors and 20s should we really be happy with winning a competition to day were the second worst team in the province. the u20s was against a second string Galway team. That's all the negativity out of the way, a couple of good performances in the tailteann Cup and back up the mayo performance will show us if we're actually making progress. Tight draw but good games. The tip game is massive and keep the other 2 tight and make the knock out stages, disaster for leitrim and Poacher would be hammering so hopefully we can perform

Whatever they are doing in Louth football, we should be trying to copy in Leitrim if we could at all. Seven years ago we bet them by 10pts in the championship. Now they are contesting at all levels.

They are not- we are. Their first team walloped us in Cloone in the first game. We managed to beat their second team!! Just about!

Ya a great model to copy. Horse Devlin is over their underage so I expect to see Louth push on further. That's the kind of appointment we need, someone highly respected who is accountable for all underage structures. (I was reading some of the comments about what's happening with the underage club scene and it's frightening that it's allowed happen. A scandal really.)

It's ok spending huge money on senior management set ups but they can only work with what has came through the underage teams, the investment needs to be made from U15 up.

Everyone agrees changes, particularly at underage are needed in the county. The issue around amalgamations are telling more about popularion decline which is really worrying and this is not the fault of the county board.

However I again have to call out the negativity of you and others regarding the minors and U20's..The hard facts are this is the first time Leitrim won matches in Connacht at both levels.

Scoring 5 gls against any Galway team is a success. The players involved seemed pretty pleased with their win and progress into the B All Ireland.

Presuming these young players read this forum. What is the message they are getting from your post and the others on here who are consumed with negativity and criticism of everything that moves in Leitrim.

The first time they've won matches in Connacht at both levels? What are you talking about? Leitrim teams have won games at both levels a fair few times and some titles thrown in too. I'm not sure what you mean there if you could clarify?

I haven't criticised them for winning b titles either. I congratulated them and I hope they win the whole thing out. That is a bizarre comment from you in a sea of them.

I meant wins at U20 and minor in the same year.

and I stand over the rest of my comments. There is nothing but negativity from too many posters on this site in regard to the efforts of these young lads.

You should be commending them for beating Galway not throwing cold water on their achievements.

Nobody is criticising players- where can you point out that people are please? Thanks for that.

Our under 20's and minors haven't had success- that is the whole point!!! They have finished in bottom two for past few years and this year won a competition to see who finishes second bottom or who finishes bottom??

If you call that success fair enough but most of us have higher expectations than that and if you don't well we will all have to agree to disagree.

I genuinely am not sure if you are a WUM or being genuine as surely you can't be happy with how we are performing?????

These lads don't need to read this forum to figure it out for themselves. In my experience they're well aware of how things are and don't need to be told. They can see it. They're the ones that have to put up with that.
Try telling them that everything is wonderful and they should simply be grateful to pull on the jersey. They'll laugh at you.
On your point regarding population, nobody has even implied that its the County boards fault. What is their fault is the lack of proper structures to take account of these issues. I didn't think that needed an explanation but now you have it.

Ah, but sure a league round robin system is only in place a number of years, had it been that way in decades gone by you'd have had plenty of similar happenings. And indeed prob more titles too. Who knows.

There is no negativity to young lads playing underage here. Again I say I hope they can win the B All Ireland. How negative is that like?

You might stand over your comments and fair play to you, but some of them make no sense.

I was the first one here saying there's too much pressure put on these lads every year with posters like yourself saying this is the best group of players we ever had etc etc, raising expectations too high.

A bit surprised by the odds on offer about the team that ran Mayo close recently.
