What's people's opinions on the Junior A? The semis this weekend are Annaduff vs Carrick and Cloone vs Glenfarne. Who'll win them, and who's gonna win the final? Also, it looks like the Cloone-Glenfarne game will decide who qualifies for Connacht. Do we know for each team whether they'll play in it even if things go south in the final? I'm just wondering cos a few years back when Aughavas were the only first team down in Junior, they said they wouldn't do Connacht unless they won the Junior, so I'm wondering if either Cloone or Glenfarne have any stance on it.

Replying To Square_B:  "Half a million euro would be conservative... Roscommon spent c700k on a new pitch, drainage and fencing etc over 5 years ago. You'd be doing well to keep costs under a million if you wanted floodlights as well. As for Cloone it might be worth spending a few euro on it but I think anything more than a new pitch would be a waste of money. A new pitch at Pairc Sean has to be the priority, I can't remember anything major done with the pitch in over 30 years... it's long overdue. The regional sports campus that's planned at the back of Pairc Sean will surely be of great benefit to the GAA also."
Yes I know I was being very conservative. Whats this about a regional sports campus? Is this St Mary's new pitch development? Or something else?

If you were at the game you would know that more people were talking about the poor state of the pitch that the game's. Very on fair to all clubs involved

I know it's a personal opinion. But in all the years I played never meet to many to pick ballnamore over park sean or cloone for championship. Think my point is proven by the fact that ballnamore have no pitch the last 2 years as it was in such bad condition ( for a relatively new pitch )

Good man yourself... no doubt your 7 posts to date have been riveting and full of insightful information. While you're here, tell us all you know about what went on at the weekend for those of us that weren't there. You seem to know all and have loads of knowledge to impart? Don't be shy now.

No it's a seperate sports centre that Leitrim County Council are planning (https://thesrc.ie/). Likely a while before it will be built but it's definitely going to be from what I hear.

Glenfarne played in 2021 v Sligo champs when they lost to Mohill and didnt do too badly. That was clearly just a stacked team from Mohill back then as their 2nd team is now looking at relegation to junior b. Kinda strange if you ask me.
Once again marys will back themselves to win this out as it took a dodgy goal in last year's final to beat them. Annaduff will give them loads of bother as they did in the group game but depends if they lose any more players to the first team at the weekend, they wouldn't have half the pick that marys have.
i don't know anything about Cloone/Glenfarne they seem evenly matched, would imagine it will be close again, Cloone to shade it, may go to ET

Remember a qualifier game against Tyrone around 2002 having to be abandoned after about 10 minutes because the pitch flooded during the game. Nearly sure there was a drainage job of some sort done in 03 or 04 because I remember a National league game against Donegal been played in Cloone around that time. Something certainly needs to be done now although it will put Pairc Sean out of action for the guts of a year.

Looks very interesting but I think it will probably be more aimed at the other sports rather than GAA. With pairc sean, the centre of excellance and st marys new pitch development (is it three pitches in their development?) I cant see a need for the GAA using it. Carrick-on-Shannon compared to other county towns is very gaelic football focused. Soccer and rugby never really took hold in Leitrim. Looking at how St Mary's are going to take over the club scene in the next few years - it's inevitable with their numbers - this redevelopment might promote other sports and take some of the players St Mary's are producing. Maybe not helping the county team but nobody wants to see one team dominating. I must say though although their numbers are a great boost they seem to be putting in great work in underage coaching in St Mary's.

Remember it well and the fire brigade on the pitch trying to clear the water before the start. Leitrim were winning when it was abandoned - they'd just scored a goal. Pitch was so bad the game would've been a complete lottery. There were a few trying to get money on Leitrim at long odds and a high handicap. Unfortunately a heavy shower about 10 mins in put paid to the fun.

The GAA can use if they need to so why wouldn't they? Rugby & Soccer may not be as strong in the county as GAA but Carrick Rugby Club is going from strength to strength with plans to build improve their facilities and there's soccer clubs in Carrick, Ballinamore & Manorhamilton that have been on the go for a long time. The GAA would be foolish not to utilise the facilities.

It will be the same craic this weekend. Why at least Senior and intermediate cannot be wrapped up by mid September is beyond me, scrap the Spring league if we have to , sure its Summer by the time it gets finished anyway

Their pitch is ready to go but there's a rule against playing games on a pitch without a fence around it. I believe they plan to open after Christmas possibly an FBD League game. Great development there's a walking track, playground and they have two huge ball stop nets on both pitches. They just have to erect the fencing around the pitch and the lights on both pitches. The total cost of the development was €560,000. Amazingly half of this was raised by families paying 25€ a month over the duration of the development. I believe Gortletteragh were the first club in the county to have their own pitch. I am told there is talk of a stand being erected too.

when you see fantastic development like that it puts our county board to shame to be serving up a pitch like Pairc Sean. well done to the people of Gortlettragh a great club.
