Replying To leitrimabu1:  "All you moaners about the underage structures in Leitrim should crawl back under the stones you came from following our U16 team making it to the Fr. manning Cup Final. Both the U16 & U15 teams are coached by people who have high level Coaching Badges. Leitrim play Longford in the Final in August while the U15 are in the Semi Final of the Humphrey Kelleher Cup probably against Fermanagh next week. Sadly the Leitrim Observer have ignored the progress of both teams for some reason.Well done to both teams & mentors."
There are some very good players on this Leitrim U16 team. Reacted well to the concession of the 2 early goals and 4 in total in the first half playing with the wind ,to go in leading 2-11 to 4-01. They beat us handsomely in the group match but next tell will tell. I'm told Leitrim haven't won the Fr Manning since 1990.

I would look for results regularily on a few different county sites and Leitrim has by far the most walkovers on a weekly basis of the counties I look at two smaller population and one large county.

Replying To TaytoFoley:  "Can anyone explain how the county board (Bord na Nog) sanctioned an amalgamation between Fenagh and St. Francis in u17? It's a disgrace in my opinion, that this was allowed to happen. Both clubs are strong at this level and well able to field their own teams, hence they can field a second team in Div2. Now, because they are so strong, they are hammering all around them. It seems Fenagh can pick and choose which teams they can amalgamate, because none of their other underage teams have amalgamated. How is this any benefit to football within the county, when other teams that work hard to put out their own teams, are getting hammered."
I agree, the hammering Melvin Gaels got last night by Allen Gaels/Fenagh can be of no benefit to anyone!

Also thursday nights
Lads playing thurs/sat/thurs/sat and maybe play for 2nd or 3rd teams aswell add in another game or 2"
Yes, definitely an issue. The reality for rural clubs is that they need their best u20s to play senior, and junior, and often those teams play Saturday evening and then Sunday afternoon, so some u20 plays have been playing Thursday night, Saturday evening, and Sunday afternoon.

Not sure about a fine , but the game is being replayed next Wednesday evening in drumshanbo. I'm sure it'll draw a big crowd…

I see the game between Allen Gaels and Ballingerla refixed for this night week. Probably the fairest decision

Sorry if i've missed this but any view on when the championship draws for Senior and inter championship take place, take it after leagues wrap up?

Anyone feeling brave and calling winners/relegations at this early stage?

I'll get the ball rolling
Senior
- a Carrick double? Fenagh?
- Liked Leitrim Village as an outsider the last couple of years but seem to be going back instead of forward from when they tightened Mohill for long periods, any truth to them being down a few heads? team like that needs full outfit Bruen and Flynn a loss for league but Moreton would be a huge loss to the thin forward line if there's truth in it, adds speed and range, thought Andy might call for a run out at one stage

Inter
- Annaduf likely to be knocking on the door but door may be jammed again, Carrigallen outsiders, moving well in league and could do the junior, inter jump? why not but could as easily be relegated again
- hard to see past Melvin Gaels

Junior
- Cloone's year

In the senior its Carrick's to lose, closely followed by Fenagh

Intermediate: Annaduff

Junior: Cloone.

Replying To Gaa_lover:  "Fr Manning cup use to be ran by Longford GAA and was well represented by a number of counties. Last few years it's a national ran comp and with only a few teams taking part now as others are put into other comps."
Originally 5 counties, then it grew over time. Now Longford, Leitrim, Wicklow, Wexford, Clare and Sligo I think. Great competition. Lots of good information on it here... link

big game in the senior this weekend between Manor and Mohill, relegation battle, who'd have thought that a short few years ago. but then again come championship they'll both motor well.

Are you really surprised? We're bad for following rules in Ireland as it is but we're worse again for following them in Leitrim GAA! The county board should lead by example and enforce their own rules but I'm not seeing that happen in this instance.

Huge game with Mohill and Manor this weekend. Mohill have lost a few key players to emigration but with the pick and experience they have there is no way they should be in the position they are in. O'Hara will be under serious pressure if this goes south. Same in Manor - Going back to the future with Glen Young seems to have gone badly. They struggled to field a teams at some stage. Which tells a lot.

Personally, I'd prefer if the second last team in Div 1 played a play off game against the second placed team in Div 2 to decide who plays in Division One the following year.
I was at the Ballinamore and Aughawillan game last weekend. Just a few thoughts from it.

Was an exciting game in the end. Seamus Mulhern as always let things go and the players new the boundaries fairly early on apart from one extremely soft free near the end for Ballinamore he was excellent. Both teams were missing a good few key players and were fairly evenly matched.

I would say Aughawillan training would have been an interesting place this week as it's a game they threw away. They were 5 points up with 10 mins left and lost by a point. We all know theyre an ageing team and it seem to cost them in the end. They just couldn't get enough bodies up the field and a lot of their players were clearly fatigued.
In Shane and Paul Moran Ballinamore had two players both from play and frees that capitalised. After controlling the whole game the Aughawillan players will be sick. They missed 3/4 scoreable chances in the final quarter that would have got them over the line. Add to that some of the cheap scores they gave away and you can see where they lost the lead.

Interesting to see Cavan's Mickey Graham in the dugout for Ballinamore. It can only be a positive for a team who have lost a whole host of players since they won the championship.

How Shane Moran wasn't on the county team this year is beyond me. He can be frustrating but he's also a brilliant player in brilliant condition. Leitrim can't afford to be without a player like that.

Mark Plunkett was deployed at no.6 by Aughawillan - He was by an enormous distance the best player on the field. He dominated in all aspects of the game. Andy Moran will have no choice but to play him here next year. Especially when you consider how poor our half-back line was this year.

In Michael McKiernan, Paul Moran and Tom Plunkett Leitrim have 3 brilliant talents coming through. I had heard of and seen the two Ballinamore players but once he bulks up it looks like the Willies have found another gem.

One thing I did notice was how poor the conditioning was in many of the players. Outside of the county players or players who have had county experience in the past its quite apparent that not many are in the gym. We may yearn for the past where players can just go out and play but that day is gone. Our club scene are so far behind other counties in this respect and it is holding us back. Its an area the county board need to reevaluate ASAP.

Both teams are well capable of going on a run this year if they get a few of their missing players back.

Finally, the facilities in Corlough Gaa are exceptional and would put most of our club grounds to shame.

What are the rules for player eligibility 2023, e.g. first 15 in senior, inter and junior a, then who's allowed play junior b and c? Struggling to find anything concrete online.

Their junior team are only allowed 5 pints in O'Carolans this weekend. So a pint deduction is taking place
