Replying To sourmilk93: "Where did posters expect the scores to come from with the 15 named to face Monaghan
We have got very little from the selected 1-9 all year.
The 6 forwards were Ruane- A workhorse who on a good day can contribute 2-3 points- Scored 3 points in fairness to him D Cregg- Not in the form he was in earlier this year- Scored 3 points Neary- A defender- Didnt score, Not his job tbf Murtagh- Scored 4P, Was always going to be tightly marked too when Enda was missing. D Heneghan- More a goal scorer and was always going to be tightly marked when Enda wasn't fit for the game. Got 1P R Heneghan- I was baffled by his selection again. Scored 1-1 in the previous 3 games, Scoreless against Monaghan" Not near enough return for the front 6. Also scores from the half backline and midfield seemed to completely dry up against Tyrone and Monaghan. Saying that I think Kerry got all their scores from their forwards at the weekend and Mayo similar bar one from Carney. So not necessary as long as you are getting chances for your best shooters. Hopefully Ben O'Carroll can get his form back and be in the mix next year and the likes of Colleran and McGinley can put pressure on the more established lads as well.

Who do we see as contenders for each of the Championship's?" Senior Brigid's will be the team to beat once again and start as strong favourites. Boyle look the best of the rest atm, and Saturday's league final will tell us more. Outside of that the Gaels and PP, who are also in the group of death with Boyle. Both have their issues atm also with injuries, players away, america, etc but still be expectations for strong campaigns for both. I'd expect relegation to come from either the losers of the Westies vs Strokestown and Castlerea vs Elphin group games.
Intermeidate Hard look past Tulsk, Doms and Éire Óg as the main contenders. Tulsk had a very strong league campaign in Division 1, but we've seen this before and not deliver come Championship. Fancy either Michaels or Shannon Gaels as the dark horses to make the final four. For relegation, I see Barrys, Pearses B and Kilmore being in trouble. Any of them could easily fall through the trap door.
Junior Ballinameen and Aidans are the two stands out for me. I'd give a slight nod to the men from the north. Some exciting young players coming and competed well in Division 2 league, so just might give them advantage over Aidans. Clann B will always be there or there around and this year might just be a year or two early for a young Kilbride team. Even though, they can't be relegated (think it's a silly rule), I'd really worry for Ronans and Joes based off the league standings and results.
The Hurling Championship starts up this weekend. Can't see Four Roads being stopped in their hunt for a 5 in a row. Pearses and Doms look best placed to challange. Would be nice to see a new winner. Maybe Oran, if they can get more of their dual players on board, but Football firmly seems the number 1 priority in Rockfield.

Still talking about Monaghan match almost 4 weeks ago. We are out, Monaghan are out too. Can't we just move on and not be talking about the AI series until next November. It was a flop. Move on

The wider football championship is still on, conversation is still relevant on how different teams bowed out. Move on nothing to see here doesn't work. I have no doubt we have a management team who will try to get to the root of a performance like that.

It takes years of consistent s and c to compete against the big boys come championship (let's face it we had gone backwards under burke regarding s and c) then when dowd came in players were pushed intensively in the space of a few months. At the end of the day players just crashed come the Monaghan game. We also have to remember some of these players were probably travelling long distances for training and then having to do a full days work the next day (no getting proper recovery) it's fairly simple we can't have it both ways for a small county (division 1 and then expect to progress further into the championship)
