Replying To sourmilk93:  "Strange candidates went to interviews with no backroom teams. If as you say Dunning had nothing confirmed.
While i had heard Dowd was getting the job during the week i was very surprised no backroom team was announed. Surely he has strong team with him to get selection. Rogers and Daly highly linked but surely theres a big name too to warrant the selection"
Rogers,Daly were approached and I believe both have since joined up with Dowd. Gerry McGowan was also approached but I don't know what the latest is with him.

We could be looking at another September or later appointment with waiting on others and Dowd to fully confirm their management/back room team.

We appointment John Evans in 2012 without anyone with him. Later assembled it including putting one of the selection committee on his team.

Western Gaels v Elphin to fill one of the relegation play off places. Castlerea likeliest to join them plus Dominics.
Castlerea look to be favourites to go down.

That's the manager and the 2 "selectors"* sorted out.
Now for physical trainer, S&C, defence and attack coaches, and all the rest.

* what an old fashioned term! What is their real role? Coaches? Asst managers? Manager assistants? Ball gatherers?

Yea think it will be between Castlerea and Elphin but Castlerea not looking good.

Bigger win for Faithleachs than expected, some scoring from them.

Ger Brennan was appointed to the most high profile managers job in Gaelic football without naming his backroom team. Dublin backroom team still not named. The County Board has to appoint who they think will be the best manager and the backroom team comes after that.

Bridging have their most talented team in their history including the all Ireland winning one. It's completely balanced all over and only going to get stronger. It'll be a miracle if they don't win county and I can't see anyone coming close to them in Connacht. It's a roll of the dice after that.

I agree with you there. Roscommon Gaels aren't much better either.

Out of interest, how many non-parish lads do Brigids have? Moycullen seem to get levelled with this a bit in Galway.

I don't think we will get a forwards coach or defensive coach. I think Daly and Rogers will be expected to do them jobs. I think it's going to be a fairly cheap management set up compared to other years.

Might be as good as any.....
BUT....
Lads have little or no recent County experience.
Hope not another Des Newton situation.

A leap into the unknown for the Roscommon team with their new manager, what realistically are his goals

To be fair. A bloody good one though and funnily enough the one weakness that cost them
The all Ireland.

I talk to myself regularly but not here tbh. That's just sad and there are many who do but I'm not one of them. It was a tongue in cheek comment, a joke like. Lighten up please. Thanks for that.

Another great weekend of club action, Clubber utilised again to get as many games in as possible. Great to have a new manager in place who can watch some emerging talent over the course of the next few games, although he has a fair idea of the up and coming players on the club scene who he might be interested in next year.

-Huge win for Roscommon Gaels in an enthralling game. Makes the final round of games very interesting in what will be a cracker between Boyle and Oran. Castlerea look destined for the relegation play off.

-Western Gaels and Elphin another huge game. Loser will be in a tough relegation battle with Dominics/Castlerea that could be hard to come out of. Brigits again had another game done and dusted by half time. Ben O'Carroll regraded to their 2nd team which is unusual to see but expect him to be back in their 15 for the quarter finals.

-St. Faithleachs blew Dominics away in the final quarter with a mix of scorers. Darren Nerney was excellent. Dominics will not relish a game v Pearses before their relegation play off. Top spot to play for between 3 teams where it could come down to score difference.

Some tasty final round matches alright.

Faithleachs v Clann will be very interesting. Clann seeking revenge and Faithleachs looking to keep their run going and top group. Unfortunately for Dominics I can't see them getting anything from the Pearses game. Not scoring enough under the new rules to win games.

Big relegation play off avoidance battle in Group B. Elphin look like another team struggling for scores.

Oran will give Boyle plenty to think about but I think that Group will finish 1 Boyle, 2 Gaels, 3 Oran, 4 Castlerea
