Dublin are now well back in chasing pack. Getting to the last 4 will be considered a good yeat for them. Ger Brennan is the obvious choice. But he will have a task on his hands getting Dublin back to the top. Will Cluxton go. They do not seem to have a second choice keeper which is s concern for them. No doubt a lot of dilemmas for the next man at the helm Jack L (None) - Posts: 3172 - 29/06/2025 12:05:56 2622025 Link 0 |
I don't think Roscommon will have any issue attracting a manager. They'll surely relish challenging for promotion in year two. bláthach (Leitrim) - Posts: 164 - 29/06/2025 13:32:20 2622051 Link 0 |
Is there learnings there for us from Meath in how an astute manager can turn things around in a short space of time? Things that stood out for me watching the QFs so far is how we really need to up the physicality and tackling intensity. Nothing really we can do about having tall men at midfield. Good direct play will be rewarded as well. We seem to have a lack of mobility compared to other teams. The way teams break at speed is such an advantage. Can this be worked on? Or even something that can be developed from underage. FullOfPorter (Roscommon) - Posts: 231 - 29/06/2025 16:48:10 2622162 Link 0 |
Davy Burke in his next media piece is sure to tell us all that two All Ireland semi finalists in Meath and kerry was in our group and both fully deserved their wins today. Meanwhile the group of death according to many pundits (Derry,Dublin,Galway and Armagh) all out before the last 4 stage. The_analyser (Roscommon) - Posts: 4102 - 29/06/2025 18:05:43 2622218 Link 0 |
What's the point in coming on here with silly wisecracks. You mustn't be too busy.

I thought Armagh were really poor today but Roscommon certainly can learn from how Kerry targeted Rafferty's kick out. Listening to Jack O'Connor afterwards, it's obvious that Kerry had studied the direction of Armagh's kick outs to disrupt them.Ethan Rafferty imploded and Kerry, despite being minus their first choice midfield, dominated possession and romped home. Agree that Robbie Brennan has done a great job with Meath. They won't win the All Ireland this year but I'd say they'll win it in the next couple of years. With all the rule changes in the game, a team needs a serious manager to be competitive at the top level.

"Jez lads, Meath are a right good outfit" how many times did we hear that, swap Meath for any team that beat us!

I'd imagine Galway will join ourselves, Sligo and that other County in seeking a new manager. Possible candidates for us Don Connellan if health is ok Mick Bohan, former Dublin ladies manager Dessie Farrell if he doesn't want to take a break. Has Ros connections I believe. Colm Collins who managed Clare very well for years. Micky Harte with John Rogers. Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 2487 - 29/06/2025 21:39:51 2622350 Link 0 |

From watching the games over the weekend you can clearly see many of our problems. moros (Roscommon) - Posts: 1153 - 29/06/2025 22:21:15 2622379 Link 2 |
And Meath haven't exactly played much Div 1 football in recent times. Yet zero fear when playing the big boys and actually dispatching them as well. It's good to see heads up football being rewarded while we bizarrely persisted with a way of playing that should have been banished to the GAA scrap heap.

I'd agree with your observations. I'd also add in that our scoring execution was something we thought would just fall into place but needs serious work now as well. Our handling errors and coughing up possession looks like it's down to players not comfortable or confident in the system and style of play or just not switched on. I know Kerry are Kerry but lost a host of their midfielders yet went after that area with huge intensity and physicality against Armagh. The Galway game confirmed that we had major issues in the middle third but it took until the Cork game for us to figure out how to win breaking ball.

That's an excellent point heard that waffle about galway Derry even Kildare and Louth at times great success some more than others of course but didn't win the big prize even Armagh who did get over the line last year it's not a guarantee that they get back again it's so hard to break the mold i dont think its impossible Meath win an Ireland but again heard the story before But at least those teams are there or there abouts how long are we gonna be the brides maid the division 1/2 team when are we gonna break the mold when some of these teams were in division 3, 4 or the tealtenn cup and made leaps of progress ahead of us The next manager is a huge appointment fair play to Davy for leaving hopefully the next manager can see a bit of the club championship id love to win Connacht again or get to a semi but a quarter is a semi realistic aim considering the last four years Gavlar (Roscommon) - Posts: 7 - 29/06/2025 23:31:42 2622421 Link 0 |
Bro stands for brother it's an abbreviation and it's well known slang in Roscommon and the rest of the developed world not surprised it hasn't reached lovely Leitrim yet Tbh Tbh stands for "to be honest" just in case that hasn't arrived in Leitrim either Gavlar (Roscommon) - Posts: 7 - 30/06/2025 01:32:00 2622450 Link 0 |

Thanks for clarifying that particular slang. However, two things to note. We write and speak correctly in Leitrim. We do not engage in abbreviations as it's lazy thanks. Also I am not your brother so I am unsure why you would call me "bro". So all in all it was a little bit silly. But thank you for clarifying. It really has made my day.

Can we ignore our leitrim brothers. Brillant performance from meath yesterday, went toe to toe with galway and showed huge resilience when galway got back into the game as opposed to when we played galway and were made to look like a junior team. they were winners of the tailteann cup only 2 years ago. Showing you don't need to competing in division 1 football to develop a team for championship football. With all the managerial vacancies going now, its going to make it even harder to get in a top manager. hontherossie (Roscommon) - Posts: 135 - 30/06/2025 12:04:06 2622579 Link 0 |
